- BMW M Motorsport and sim racing hardware manufacturer Fanatec created a world first with the joint development of the steering wheel for the BMW M4 GT3, which unites real-world and virtual racing in an unprecedented way.
The 30-minute documentary “Fusion: Motorsport meets SIM racing” describes the pioneering work in the development of the steering wheel, which works perfectly in both racing cars and simulators, in detail - from the first idea viewed with scepticsim, through the initial meetings and various construction phases, to testing.
Very cool. Many of us will never be able to pilot a real life race car, thankfully Fanatec and BMW will bringing you one step closer to your dream coming true.
@@BLITZKRIEG1 yeah that’s not true at all. And I drive both karts and cars
And many of us would never be able to purchase this wheel :D
Im afraid the price will be a NO GO for most of racers.
@@Rikus23 the price isnt even public yet
@I suck at being bad I've heard the $600-800 dollar point tossed around. I think that would be reasonable for what it is
Added bonus for BMW. If a wheel breaks or stops working, they can easily order another one, or have one waiting in the pits. No longer do they have to spend thousands to either build their own or going to a race wheel manufacture to have one custom made. And Fanatec wins too by having the prestige of a legitimate race wheel they also learn about what an actual race car needs to blur the line between sim and real life.
Hahaha!! Any race team worth their time on the track will no doubt have a fair few spare sitting in the transporter, Fanatec is the last company i'd want to wait on for anything.
Like as if a BMW team is going to care about the cost of a wheel, it is pittence compared to what they spend on other things.
That guy is literally thinking race teams have one steering wheel and that's it. No spares, no nothing. One and if its gone, I guess it's waiting time for the factory to make another one (but just one).
I mean wow.
I hope we have a advanced line if wheels for all manufacturers. Thank GOD for ideas to the next level. It’s just a game you will never experience racing. 37 year’s later look at us sim racers now. Amazing time to be alive.
Awesome insight into the development. Kudos for pushing ideas and making them happen! Looking forward to the wheel and also seeing the M4 GT3 racing ;)
+McLogo76 Thanks for you kind words, mate!
BMW being a pioneer not just in racing, but in sim racing in the way they have is so exciting as a sim racer! I may never get to experience driving in the real race car, but with BMW pushing what can be done in sim racing they are making it as close as it can get to the real thing. I hope this is only the beginning of BMW's involvement in sim racing!
Fantastic to see a development documentary like this, very interesting! I do all of my sim driving exclusively in VR so having the possibility of having a real world car wheel in my actual hands and in my virtual hands brings the scale of immersion to new heights that I hardly ever dreamed possible before.
I hope that this wheel and car will feature in other sim titles such as Assetto Corsa Competizione as well?
Such an exciting development, can't wait for it to be ready. Also: Amazingly good video; great production of camera work, cutting, audio, the lot - kudos.
jørgen
Such an amazing development and movie. Melting real racing with Simracing together!
Liebes BMW Motorsport Team, es ist erstaunlich wie ihr uns die Chance gibt denn Motorsport nach Hause zu bringen, und es Funktioniert echt gut deshalb wünsche ich euch kreativ und erholsame Tage. Lg
Before buying any Fanatec products please read into their quality control just a friendly reminder
Fantastic documentary, more of the same please?
You mean Fanatastic? :D
Fanatec bmw and Iracing all working together is pure gold!
A beautiful story, thank you for sharing it.
Thanks BMW and Fanatec.... THIS will be my next Rim by Fanatec
hehehehe how about after seeing the price :( I want it so bad
@@iggiepopped666 This Price is ok for me, its the real deal not a replica. 1200 Bucks is not cheap but its worth it
@@OptomusPrime666 aw man I'm so jealous, I think the concept is the coolest thing I've seen in a very long time and I want it so bad, I'm a broke college student tho :( so it'll be more g29 for me. Were you able to preorder before they sold out?
12:12 did i hear that right? 😂
Awesome
Volunteering to take the prototypes if y’all don’t need em anymore!
Thank you Fanatec and BMW! Can't wait till it's finally ready to ship. I'm waiting for 9 month since Fantec announced it.
I bought it, the paddle shift feel is a bit under whelming TBH - the club sport magnetic shifters feels really good.
@hby7768 what do you really mean by underwhelming ? Is it bad or not tactile feel ?
I am for sure buying one of these wheels
Looking forward to it. Saw it at the SimExpo and the real M4GT3 at DTM Hockenheim. I am eager to see what the M4 can do in the GT series next year.
I need this in my life!
what a fantastic product!!!!!!
The back is just too sexy! I was not a big fan of the aesthetics at first (because of the design and positionning of the big knobs maybe), but it is growing on me. Moreover, the ergonomics and reliability seem to be top notch!! Cannot wait to see what they finally come up with the light utilisation. Thanks for posting this great documentary once again ; it is such a unique project. Congrats! A day-one buy from me if not too expensive ;)
Did you buy it?
12:12 omg hahahaha. Really cool!
It's a nice car that most of us could never afford and will never drive.
It's a nice wheel that most of us could never afford and will never use.
FUSION!
@Michael Marlow well not as exspensive as you think, price is €1300 confirmed
VERY VERY cool. I cant wait to see the new GT3 here in the US. Was great to see BMW at Limerock (IMSA) and Sebring (SRO FANATEC) this summer. As a SIM racer I am genuinely hoping there is a budget friendly version of the wheel, of course I am still waiting on the CSL DD from Fanatec to arrive in November so there is time.;) As well as an Engineer and former rallycrosser I love to see how well Fanatac and BMW worked to develop the program.
Damn this is really really cool to see this!
+DaOsta 😎
Truly amazing, this wheel.
Do you guys at @BMW Motorsport also have to call/email Fanatec support if the wheel has issues?
It feels like another case where the most elegant solution is also the most obvious. Your racer trains on both the real car and a simulator and it would be really ideal if the muscle memory for the controls carried over between them. Ah, let's make the steering wheel exactly the same between them. Good engineering is often like that.
cant wait for mine
Glad they are making documentaries about a wheel instead of actually making it!
Cant wait to have the M4 GT3 in ACC
This is sooooo coool!
Thanks BMW Fanatec👍
Awesome video guys !
27.04 min 🤭🤫🤫
You should do a review of it.
BMW 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
10:18 , weird seeing Logitech keyboard beside Fanatec wheel
A video for BMW...but the end song is called Camaro?? Cool lol
Very much looking forward to seeing the M4 GT3 in IMSA and GTAmerica. Also, anticipate getting my own Fanatec rim for my SimRacing rim!
sick
Man this car looks soo mean🥵😍😍
14:37 IT'S FRIIDAY THEEN.. SATURDAY SUNDAY WHAT?!
wow incredible
⚡️ Marlboro ⚡️
That must be the new Quick Disconnect? Please dont be wobbly!
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
leider wohl nie in meinem budget aber werde es im auge behalten!
Now we just need to *finally* know the price :)
+ReXzz Sorry, mate! At this point, we don’t have any information. As soon as we have, we'll let you know.
I guess it's in the price range where "If you have to ask, it's to expensive"
Porsche wheel is 1grand/ this has to be at least 1.5 -2
@@wreck.create.MAK0 would be a lot but still somewhat understandable. But some people out there were talking about up to 5k, which would be ridiculous. Same goes for the Bentley wheel..
@@ReXzz If its the same one as the bmw real car obviously it will be a lot
is the quick release system in this video the same that is sold ?
And now me, with the Simucube2 wheel base on my sim rig 😭😭😭
Eco systems, exo systems, eco systems. Wait till fanatec has a real life Ferrari, red bull, Mercedes wheel. Omg
@Nicsos123 You can make Fanatec BMW M4 GT3 wheel work on Simucube 2 in case you didn’t know by now
will it ever be released!
Q2 2021 lol
Now I have to decide between the Bentley GT3 wheel with the 360 center display or this amazing looking BMW GT3 wheel. My CSL DD has become expensive 😆
I would just use this for f1 simulators
Amazing, can we have it also in ACC please?
Was already confirmed it's coming in early 22, yes.
Now if only there was a BMW M4 at every BMW dealership that would be ready to accept your newly bought wheel for a testdrive. Just a hint, a teeny tiny little one. 😏
It doesn't fit a M4, just the heavily modified M4 GT3 race cars.
Extremely cool. I'm guessing 2k price tag
Am I the only one that's gonna miss the M8 "Big Boi" GTE? If only they converted the M8 into a GT3 :(
No because the Car was shit.
What's the game? Iracing?
You would think they would have motion rigs use, Lol...
It's got be best job in the world to be a factory race driver, I would have a go in a heart beat, I'd prob be good at it too, I can get fast times on the Norshliefe, Lol, Still tho people like myself can only dream of racing cars like the m4, Sim racers watch out when I've bought new PC, lol, I put a year an half practice in and now is fast enough to compete that's for sure, Sim Racing helps me forget the triggers that cause CPTSD symptoms, My mental health is not too good, So Sim Racing have become an outlet for mental health issues I have, Just wish I began Sim Racing years ago, Going to try a TH-cam channel aswell, See if that helps me be creative, Because of my mental health I stopped producing hip hop, I find, Finding the get up an go to actually do what I wants really hard, But Sim Racing I find can be really satisfying when you've got some top times, But now I'm not that dude who causes crashes coz that dude can't drive, My biggest fear in sim racing is being that dude who looks like they playing need for speed, lol....Not me, Yeah it's really satisfying when you finally finish the Norshliefe in a fast time, But yeah in few weeks when I'm PC Sim Racing I will be entering some competitions, After all the Sim Racing is more than just a game......
Well spoken fellow simracer friend ! 🏁🏁🏁
@@FG_356 Hey what do you know, I am now in a PC, It is only an i5 12600k with a 12gb 3060 but it's a world apart from the PS4 lol, I am just about to jump on AMS 2, Since that 1.5 update it is all i put on is AMS 2, But yeah thanks for the well spoken comment, Stay safe yeah, Peace....
Big boi
first bentley and now bmw huh crazy
I see there not using the QR and shaft everyone else has lol on the DD base i mean
Of course that's different as that is the long awaited QR2.
Where can I buy this?!
Is the bottom of the wheel removable like the Bentley gt3 wheel?
No
Are they still avaliable?
1k wheel?
PRICE....
It looks fantastic, I love it, But I think my wallet is crying.
Even thought it's cool to get sim racing closer with racing the harsh reality is that 0.01% of sim-racers are capable of taking a flat 200kph corner, luckly I am in the 0.01% but it's crazy rare. It's more like I was born a racer and never discovered it, most sim racers are just passionate guys spending too many hours on the sim using dirty tricks to get tents off. The real track is brutal and challenging, you can't press restart if you get a corner wrong, and you can't fix a car in a click. Track condition doesn't exist in sim racing, this makes driving mutch easier in the sim, the snapping feeling of the car is miniman or even absent in the sim and this makes you reach the limit in almost no time at all. In reality to reach the limit you only have 3 sessions instead of limitless hours and you have to gradually understand what the limit is and YOU CANNOT EXED IT, if you do bad things can happen. Keep those things in mind before placing racing and sim-racing at the same level.
So where is the wheel?
You pronounced fanatec wrong. It's fanatec.
what the hell is with the deep voice 🤣🤣
Still waiting for the cure for cancer.
Never seen before but wait, there was another wheel fanatec took from a real car then put it in a sim so not a worlds first.
That previous one was fake. This is the worlds first real.
Price?
i mean, it looks like an f1 steeringwheel… so is that some kind of prediction?
Huh? F1 wheels look COMPLETELY different...
Damn , Fanatec are starting to run away with it from thrustmaster , We need some GT3 rims TM......NOW
thrustmaster first needs to release direct drive. also i'd personally want a fanatec ferrari wheel, hope ferrari will learn to move with the leaders of innovative sim racing xD
the wheel looks pretty ugly but it is impressive
I guess its "cool" that you can use it for both simracing and the car. But why???
@Kusqen Real race drivers train on Iracing so way easier if they can use the same wheel, we just got a bonus it was going mass market
@@Simlife101 maybe 5 people will use it for both iracing and irl
if Fanatec wouldn't be that much crap on the electronic and software side, they would make great products. sadly that's not the case, I never seen a company more inept on developing stable software and firmware.
Genuinely, why does this need to be prefaced with a message about Covid-19 regulations? Clearly 'safeguards' were followed as it was impossible to organise anything official without 80,000 pages of risk assessments during the last 18months. This has just become yet another thing for corporate virtue signalling without any actual consideration as to how ridiculous it sounds.
Anyway. Good video and cool products.
They added that message to prevent people like you start crying that the covid regulations were not followed in the video.
@@sroest think you missed my point. The message serves no purpose than to state the obvious. I couldn’t care less weather they were sneezing on each other whilst complaining they couldn’t smell anything whilst they filmed it.
Development on a clubsport wheels base why didn't they use the dd1
What? They used the DD1 in this video.. They did not used a CSW. LOL.
@@momorious look closely at the start it's a 2.5 clubsport 1st
@@johnplayer20s look close at 17:23 and basically the whole Rest of the video. It's a DD1.
@@johnplayer20s Also in the whole video I do not see even one time a CSW V2.5 with the BMW M4 WHEEL attached. Only one time with a BMW M2 GT2 wheel attached. Not related to any kind of development of this M4 wheel.
In the whole video there is not one shot of the M4 wheel on a CSW V2.5 so I absolutely dont get your statement at all...
@@momorious 1.52 I shouldn't have to do this. I'm sorry you have nothing better to do than argue with people on the Internet
Does not have a funky switch.
BMW CARS SUCKS BIG TIME DONT EVER BUY A USED BMW IF YOU RELLY LOVE BMW LEASE A NEW DONT GO OVER 60 THOUSAND KM GIVE IT BACK AND GET A NNEW ONE TURTS ME AFTER 70 THOUSAND KM YOU GONNA START GETTING ALL THE PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR.I DORVE BMW MOST OF MY LIFE LET ME TELL YOU IT WAS THE WORST DESITON I HAVE EVER MADE. JUST HORRIBLE CARS
I mean you should have known that from the start lol..regardless what does that have to do with this racecar and steering wheel? I dont think bmw is worried about a used vehicle as their racing in motosports lmao
Seeing how they cable manage the usb lead has me thinking how can i replicate this lol
Any ideas chat???
yeah except that the model for sim racing will not be carbon fiber, some people tested it and said it was all plastic
That's wrong. There is no "Model for Sim Racing". There is only ONE Model which customers as well as BMW can buy in the Fanatec Webshop. And that one has a full Carbon Fibre Structure with a Forged Carbon Plate on top.
@@momorious Well they clearly have you believing it.
The one i tested at sim expo wasnt forged carbon at all, its was a mix of plastic and carbon so maybe stop believing their lies and learn fanatec LIE
They did this with another wheel years ago showing it going from a real car to the sim and the final production model was nothing like the real one.
@@Simlife101 no it wasnt. Models on the Expo were full Carbon fibre with top layer being Forged Carbon. There was no Plastic involved at all other than the top plates around the buttons.
The other wheel you mention was a Marketing Gag and it was the M2 GT2 steering wheel from 10 years ago. The video was fake. The wheel however was not changed in this 10 years at all. So you Mix up quite a lot here I think.
💖🩷💗
Hope they tested this one so we can’t see some b**t from Dom
Ridiculous, so there
Bmw you re drunk go home
Never raced, never won... And already and icon? Haha funny...

I guess you don't know the price of the car then...
@@isthernes i know the price of car and the price of fanatec products 🤡
@@DJ_Simuladores then I think you would agree with me that the wheel should be under the $530.000 price tag of the BMW M4 GT3 race car, right?
Well, I think this wheel will be much less expensive then the one from the M6 GT3.
Why, you ask?
Mass production, not only a few handfull ;-)
I am still hoping for an affordable introduction/preorder price if it is not made limited. Developed in Germany but produced in quantity by our highly skilled chinese friends.
