    When first started I researched what other DJ's who have been in the game longer charged. I went at bit lower because I wanted to establish my name. So I primarily did event parties, four hours @$350. With these gigs I brought all of my equipment, mics. Got there approximately an hour early and packed up at the end. I did one pro-Bono gig for a children's camp just to get my name out. You have to understand what the market will bear in the area your in. Key word is research! If you feel after a gig you got paid less than what you deserved, you probably did. Be honest with yourself, did you rock it, did you keep people on the dance floor? Did you cater to all ages and genres?(important, older people aren't going to dance to house music all night) most of all did you receive compliments for the patrons or the person who hired you? I did a party once thought I bombed, until the person who hired me said I did an outstanding job, because his family doesn't dance they just enjoy music! I was floored.

    I had no idea at the beginning but I was just borrowing speakers and had a small controller, no mic. I upgraded a couple of years ago to a closer to top of the line controller, laptop and got a PA. So, for a full event where i bring everything; I charge a $200 base fee that covers up to 4 hours, then $50 and hour afterward. With private gigs on my own, I don't do lights or even book large enough private events that require them. While I have the know how for full stage production and will run it for others from time to time; I am mostly an EDM DJ in a club/concert setting so I don't have to handle production myself, I just show up and play. lol

    Thank you for this video on how much we should charge for gigs as beginners. It helps us out on what we should charge without going overboard, under cutting other DJs and its reasonable prices. Thank you so much for the knowledge and helping out the beginner DJs.

    I’m glad you mentioned the bars/clubs first. Most people tell me to do house parties first but in reality I can get 6 months worth of bookings in a bar before I can get a single house party since there’s more small bars than house parties looking for a dj

      I just started DJing about a month ago.. And now I'm just waiting for my 1st (family/friends) client to call me after passing around my ad to them. But I really want to do a house party first so I can have some feedback and an idea from my clients before I do public DJing. Also I want to wait to do public DJing until I get bigger professional speakers that can do enough watt power (at least 500-1000w), as well as purchasing/mastering a bigger advanced controller. I'll say that I'll start charging about $50/hr., since I'm still new in the DJ community.

  • @kidcupid07
    @kidcupid07 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    I agree 500 should be a minimum , now if you are just bringing a controller , or just laptop 350-450. Anything less than 350 if it ain’t for friends and family ain’t worth my time. People unfortunately will use you. And I know I’m not the only one who noticed this, why the HELL do people pay for everything else before paying for the DJ 🤷‍♂️ . Then literally come to you with the tight wallet like hook it up. Naw dawg I’m the first to get here, last to leave.....pay me Maine !!!

    Biggest thing is knowing your market. Also practice is so important, don't go out and sound like a beginner, always present yourself as a professional. You never want promote yourself as a DJ for the Low. Its a business, plus look at all the equipment you invested in.

    Mathematical breakdown.
    How much is your equipment worth?
    How quickly do you want a return on your investment?
    How much are your yearly expenses? E.g. insurance, travel, music, admin.
    What are your priorities? E.g. Rent, mortgage, family.
    How much do you want to profit for your time and effort?
    How many bookings can you handle in a month/year?

    Your minimum for any gig other than a bar should be $500.00 as long as you think/know you're worth it.

    • @DJLiXxer
      @DJLiXxer  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      don1mega I agree. However, when you're just starting out I think it depends on your skill and presentation. Plus, it's hard to aim for that clientele when you're first starting out. You have to build up!

    • @don1mega
      @don1mega 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      DJ LiXxer how long have you been DJ'ing? Also, I am to the left of you. LOL!!!!! I am in Jackson (Prison City). I definitely admire the way you are doing your thing. I ALWAYS try to inspire females that love music to get into DJ'ing.
      Back to the original conversation, from what I see from you so far, I think you would be every bit worth $500.00 minimum, for Schools, weddings, private party's etc. But also, I imagine that there is probably literally a DJ on every block in Detroit. So therefore one would have to be more negotiable in order to compete. Also, I love to get the hell up out of this town, so I will come check you out one day. Detroit always knows how to party!

    • @DJLiXxer
      @DJLiXxer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol man my basic packages start at $500 but when I started out I was charging $150 LOL I didn't know any better 🤷🏽‍♀️ but I love Jackson bro that's where I had my first gig! And yeah Detroit is super competitive but you have to get it how you liveeeee

    When I first started I charged 375 that's it. And at the bar was 500. Because the owner make more money at the bar than the door.

  • @MrRichfusion
    @MrRichfusion 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I definitely agree on your beginner DJ prices. That is about what I charge. For small venues and House Parties / backyard parties. I never DJ'd at a bar. I would love to try it out.. And I think it depends on what state you live in. I'm from Brooklyn but live in Maryland. The prices are high here. So I think it all depends on pricing your gigs.

    I live in a small town in Alabama. DJs are pretty competitive around here. I know that I’m better than some of these guys, but I get less gigs than these people. That is because they undercut my prices. People who use some of them often complain about how terrible they sound or the bad selection of music they play. Although I’ve done some paid events, I’ve had to do a couple of free events to get my name out there. Every place that I’ve played so far, people enjoyed my because I was prepared.

      Be patient. People get what they pay for. I bet they won’t rebook the Dj’s that undercut your price. If you are handling your business you will get recommended or rebooked. That’s how it goes.

    Great Video. Its good that you putting out some information for beginner Dj's. However you prices are a bit off. Depending what equipment you purchased, you want to get a return on investment. if your speakers are 300-400 dollars you need to make that back and then some. When I started out my basic package was $500.00. There is no money in bars or clubs. You have to factor in everything. Good video

    • @DJLiXxer
      @DJLiXxer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks!! Yeah I gave up on the club scene around last year because you'll never get the return on your investment. I agree completely from where you're coming from though too. Thanks for watching!

  • @djnovastar82
    @djnovastar82 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is different depends on what type of market you are in (music wise). 100-120$ for a 4 hr club,bar,lounge gig for beginners. If the dj has experience works on the radio,mixtapes hot on the streets it goes up to 250-325$ in a small market state (in the city). Corporate gig 4 hrs, 500$ for that gig plus 50 dollars per every additional hr

I have been to events where the DJ had speakers that sounded like they were from Radio Shack. His speakers did not have that bone crushing bottom that absolutely made you get on the floor. AND HE GOT PAID! What kind of speakers should I buy? Money is not an issue. Thanks for your help.

    I'm DJing since about 3 years and usually charge 400€ per night [private party, 6 hours]. All in all the prices (for beginners) in Germany do not differ as much as I would have excpected them, from what you proposed ;) Still, some people are willing to spend up to 1000€ (or even more) for weddings and big birthdays.

      As a beginner, my first gig was a wedding I gave the client a deal most of the music was requested and it work out but now I see the problem as a season vet DJ that if i don't make a deal some rookie will undercut the price and take the gig for little or nothing to get their brand out there and the client has you by the balls also make this a hobby unless you are running in the right circles to get paid for your work
