These are all great points. When we embody these principles as the foundation of the work we do, we will ensure that we are giving the best of ourselves to our clients, which is what they signed up for.

I had the same reflexion. I've thought that when you use your limbic resonnance otherwise called the empathy, you automatically mirror the person you interact with, isn't it? But maybe here it's about doing it consciously...
Great question, Veronica! And thank you, Vif Comme Le Vent, for pitching in! Mirroring is a tool for building rapport. It does have a lot to do with empathy, but one can be empathetic without mirroring. Usually, mirroring is the subconscious "imitation" of gestures, postures, tone of voice from the client which, if done correctly and respectfully, can create a positive response from them to you. In this case, we bring it up as a tool to use consciously especially if you notice you don't do it naturally already, and with practice, it will become part of how you interact. Hope it helps! Thank you both for sharing :)
Hi Ajit. Question for you regarding principle 5...if you're selling flat-fee packages, where you're focused on value and outcomes, doesn't that get a little tricky? Or, do you simply say, if you commit 100% and are willing to show up, do the work, participate fully and honestly, then you MAY get this outcome...but it's on you to be willing to go on this journey??
Great question, Amy! And you answered it yourself spot on with the latter ;) That is exactly it. As coaches, we can offer getting our clients a certain outcome based on our abilities and experience. However, the client must do the work themselves for it to happen. We provide the tools, guidance, and support, but it will depend on them if they commit to turning that into action and reaching their goals. We hope this provides some clarity. Thank you for sharing!
Great question, Gustavo! Brave, powerful questions are those that challenge the client, maybe even make them uncomfortable, to dig deeper into whatever they are going through. For example, if they are experiencing fear, you may ask "is this fear real or is it made up?" or if they are having negative thoughts, you may ask "is this an empowering mindset?" What's important is to let go of the thought that we mustn't make our clients uncomfortable, and be brave enough to ask (and navigate) tough questions. Mirroring. Please. Rapport is built by being 100% present with your client and their wants, needs and aspirations. Be humble, authentic and keep your stuff out of the coaching process. You have to connect with people and be willing to enter their life and care about them and what they care about. That's how you build a relationship and a long term client.
Guess it's what we call empathy! Not just breathing like them or gesturing the same. Thanks for this quick and complete reply. Helpful. Yours. Véronica 🙏
We love that concise summary, Shayne, spot on! And yes, Veronica, it does have to do a lot with empathy. Mirroring is just a tool one can use to support the process of building rapport especially for new coaches that are just getting started or those coaches who struggle a bit with strengthening these relationships at first. Let's also remember that, many times, we use mirroring subconsciously whether we call it that way or not. Practising mirroring is to choose to do it consciously until it becomes part of your natural interactions. Hope it sparks some thought. Thanks so much for sharing! :)

Great video-thank you for the reminders to ground myself with my client. Mirroring for me is related to my empathy for the client.

Ajit, what would be an example of a brave question?
