Gary Holt's solos are just random string noodling. There is no familiar, recognizable lead that was written for any particular song. His leads have no direction, purpose or melody. They never start, fill or end with any particular fit for any song, like I said, just random string noodling. Yep its random, it's just about as dumb as it gets in metal soloing. Melodically it sounds like he's got a few some scales and runs, and he's moving up and down the fretboard until it sounds about right, then he's remembering where to start.
