It always surprises me when I hear stories of people throwing up and fainting. My first tattoo was a 2 hour leg piece, my second tattoo was a six hour back piece. I actually went to sleep after about hour three. The artist was asking me if I was ok and I was like “oh sorry I just dozed off, if I start snoring just ignore me.”
I've dealt with cuts, burns and scrapes over the years working with machinery. Needles are the one thing that hurts the most. A tattoo would probably knock me out, figuratively and literally.
Honestly depending on where you get it tattoos really aren't that painful there maybe like a one for me personally but they might be like a three or four for you Something small would be a good first tattoo if you want to get one I got two small outlines of cats with semi-colons for my first tattoos and it took about 20 minutes
I got a tattoo when I was 42, and I love it. I got a butterfly on my well-endowed upper left breast. My bf was waiting for me to be finished so she could get a rose on her shoulder. She kept asking me if it hurt, and I assured her that it was a little uncomfortable, but not painful. So when I was finished, she hopped up on the stool while I started paging thru a magazine. When I looked up at her, I could see she was in excruciating pain. She told me I lied because it hurt like h. I told her the truth. To her credit, she didn’t break down and the tattoo artist finished her rose. The tattoo artist told us that my tat didn’t hurt because of my insulated location. Skinny bf had no insulation.
Is your boyfriend gender-fluid or just goes by she her? I'm slightly confused but I'm also on the rainbow spectrum if that makes it any better for me asking that 😅 (I love all genders I don't care what you have in your pants if I'm attracted to you I'm attracted to you but identifies bisexual and I'm also agender transmasculine)
I had an Uber driver once with tattoos, and I was asking her about them. She said instead of names she would get something to represent the person. For her boyfriend she got a tattoo of his favorite Pokémon. I don’t remember exactly what Pokémon, but I think it was either Haunter, or Gengar.
Good thing the shop in #8 had the CCTV footage to prove the girl not only lied to her mom, but tried to get OP fired as retaliation for refusing to do the tattoo! Mom was starting to sound like a Karen there! Then again, I'd be pretty pissed too if I discovered my 16yo daughter got a tattoo w/o permission, let alone a neck tattoo!
My second/most recent tattoo was a moth I let the artist kinda surprise me with as far as colors etc, I freaking love it! Anyway, once he finished the outline and started the color I was tensing up and trying my best to control my breathing to not look "like a little b*tch" 😂When he finished he and another female artist who was watching said "you're a champ!" The girl was like "yea I would have been screaming!" 😂 I'm thinking damn bc I WAS screaming...... inside.....like a little b*tch! Holy sh*t. I'd totally do it again tho.
The ones about people getting dizzy and passing out remind me why I always bring a sugary drink with me to tattoo appointments. It helps. One of the artists I’ve gone to even keeps a bucket of jelly beans beside the counter for when people start to feel faint.
When i went to get my first tattoo, i anticipated a lot of pain. Surprisingly enough, it wasn't as painful as i thought it would be. I also realized I may be addicted 😅
Advice from two tattoo artists (my wife and I) to any others: If you have someone who's interested in a tattoo but has never had one before, dry poke them with an inkless needle a bit. This will tell them how it feels and you how they react, so you don't have to deal with a screamer for three hours. Fuck that. My advice for people who are getting tattooed is to focus on the pain instead of trying to ignore it. I don't have any ankle/wrist tattoos, but I have them on my upper and lower knuckles--I find the pain easiest to deal with by meditating on it rather than trying to escape it.
ive been thinking this whole time that its weird that it hurts less when i focus on it, and when i tried to ignore it hurt me. glad to know im not the only one
I got some very strange looks from these young male customers at a tattoo parlor as soon as I walked in the door. Then this one guy finally asked me are you going to get a tattoo? I answered him back I sure am. Well I was really there to cover up a twenty year old tattoo. I was 62 years old when I walked into the tattoo parlor. I did get my old tattoo covered up. It took over 3 hours to complete.
I think the only time you should get a tattoo when you’re under age is if it’s for medical reasons. Like I know for identical twins they will give them a little spot in a specific place so they can be identified I also knew kids I went to high school with who had diabetes that got a tattoo stating they were diabetic instead of wearing a medical alert bracelet.
I fell asleep whilst getting my largest tattoo on my back. My tattooist had to check that I hadn't fainted. In the UK, the only time a minor can get a tattoo is a medical one. We don't even allow them with parental consent.

They also do them for parents of multiples (twins and such). If one has to take meds or if they all do, but they're taking different stuff. Or if any has allergies or something like that.
I got a small tat on my shoulder as my first (and only one so far). Felt like tiny kitten scratches. I think I twitched a bit when the needle first hit my skin but I was totally fine once she got going.
In my opinion the outline doesn’t hurt, what gets to me eventually is when they shade what feels like the exact same area for like 5min and won’t move to a different spot, not unbearable but not nice
Man I got my first tattoo apparently my mom said that I was stone cold silent and unmoving, but there I was in the chair trying not to move and let out a few whimpers but when all is said and done it was a really nice tattoo of my family’s crest
Recently while getting some sleeve work done, there was a guy ahead of me. I got my appointment early because this dude freaked out just getting the stencil applied and ran out on his tattoo that hadnt even begun yet.

I took a former friend to get his first tattoo from a (now former) friend of mine who had already done one of mine. He was getting a 2” Marker from Dead Space on his inner forearm. Dude yelped at the first line. I was surprised he continued. I watched him squirm and white-knuckle through it and even bit his knuckle and started sobbing. Good on him that he went through with it and got it finished. I later had 4” worth of text in an intricate font and a lotus tattooed on the same spot and it wasn’t all that bad to me, aside from a couple points of the lotus petals that got close to the crook of my elbow, way farther up than his went. My own first was a semicolon near the top of the inside of my wrist. The pain was a little surprising at first, but I sat well. My most painful was my last one, an American traditional death head hawk moth tramp stamp; I’m not heavy but also not skinny, and she had to stretch my skin a lot. She told me I was sitting like a champ though because she could tell I was in a ton of pain but sitting perfectly still and not complaining.
My tattoo artist said something that can be translated to “welcome into the drug” ish before starting lol. I got one on my underarm so the pain wasn’t so bad.
First tattoo 5" x 2 1'2 inches on my left wrist, with lots of detail, some color, and shading. I was terrified it was going to hurt. I sat fine through it, and was really surprised. My only regret is I wish some of the more delicate bits were a little higher on the wrist because it's bendy and some of the wispier parts needed a retouch after two years. She pressed a little hard with a new needle for a few strokes and the ink bled a bit on a few fine lines. Nothing huge, but wish she hadn't tried it out on me. lawl. I def recommend starting small and getting things to represent people not their names. A good rule of thumb is for a tattoo to have at least three meanings or purposes.
My first 2 tattoos are the 2 kanjis for "Tekken", it took about 2 hours for each calf, and i really just sat like a rock and now im doing a sleeve so long sessions, and im more bored than anything during it, pain is never an issue, the itching from the scabs is way worse
I remember a story on Reddit about a girl who got a tattoo of “one ring to rule them all” on her A hole. Don’t know how well it went but i hope she was happy about the results 😂
My first tattoo was a basic outline of the lunar cycle on my forearm. I loved it, and other than my skin being irritated by the edges of the wrap, it healed perfectly. Really didn't hurt that much, and I was reading the entire time. Still trying to figure out how I want to fill it or what details I want to add to it.
I got A tattoo of my bfs name at 17, I know it was really stupid. But here's the story: so, me and him (mark) started dating at the age of 16, and we met at 14, anyways, when we started dating i though it was a good idea to get a tattoo of his name on my wrist but like a bracelet, for ex: a rubber bracket with writing on it like this: M A R K My tattoo artist said that its permanent and if I was sure, and ofc my mind though "We'll be together till we die!" 8 years later, we got married, and had 2 kids, but unfortunately I found out he's cheated on my thks 3 different women and has had a threesome in OUR bed while I was out working, and he's been abusing our kids while I'm not home. I got a divorce and now I live a happy life with my children and my new husband. As for the tatoo , I got a cover up.
It is really surprising that people don't think of taking painkillers before the appointment like paracetamol and ibuprofen to help with the pain... I was told to have something sugary before as well. This was amazing advice as I had my first which lasted 4 hours.
Usually tatooers will tell you to not take any medication or alcohol because it liquefies the blood more and then it's less practical and nice if you are bleeding too much
I have one on my shoulder. Not the most painful place, but I literally almost fell asleep during it. It wasn’t bad at all. I imagine some super sensitive areas (feet, neck, etc…) might be more painful, but I think in general, people overexaggerate the pain, whether by stress over the fear or by lower pain tolerance levels.
re name tattoos: Seems to me that a bracelet or a pendant engraved with partner's name would be more sensible. Size and choice of metal optional. You can be certain that your taste, relationships, and values will change. All tattoos of names, and most tattoos are ephemeral choices, unless you plan on dying in the immediate future.
I told a friend I would marry the girl that dumped me the day before, after we had only been together for two weeks. Ten years later we're still together, happily married for two. Never got her name on me though, probably never will. It always seems to happen right before things end.
I hate pain and needles and I have 4 tattoos. My first one is on my left shoulder. And it didn't hurt to me, just felt like a cat scratch then goes numb. And the only name I have on me is my son's over my heart. (38f)
Got something on the palm of my hand and it was by far the worst tattoo pain. It was beyond. Then, a year later, it's so faded its unbelievable. Don't do it, kids.
Im glad that my friend is an tattoo artist and he as done all my bigger tattoos, he even had a studio for that but then hes wrist didnt like that and had to end that career :/ feel bad for him because he relly liked making tattoos
My first and second tattoos were on my feet. the first one on my left foot Goodman right below my pinky toe all the way up my ankle. The second on my right foot is a sparrow in part of it literally goes right before the bottom of my foot.
Long Story of my 1st Tattoo, but I will try to shorten the story if I can. Initially I went to a tattoo shop just for inspiration. However found a lovely lily tribal style tattoo (coloured for my lower back). Spontaneously decided to have it on that day however I was aware & advised by friends, to have something to eat or drink (mainly sugar) before having the tattoo. Which I did not do. So whilst having the tattoo, which lasted for 45 minutes. I thought of all of the swearing word I knew in my head, then thought "Oh shoot, I'm running out of swearing words". So i decided to count the tiles on the ceiling, the rest of the way of the tattoo, to handle the pain. After the tattoo was finished I struggled to walk so I had my best friend and her partner drag me to McDonalds afterward. By the way the tattoo is beautiful and still looks beautiful after 17 years.
As someone who has a stalker ex I could see her getting my name somewhere. Right now she believes we will get back together after 6 months like hades and Persephone. It’s creepy, when I get back to college it will be over the 6 months so wish me luck.
I'm so baffled by these stories...I was born with a lower pain threshold than normal (things hurt me more than usual) but I was able to get a tattoo without even tearing up until the last 5 mins (took 2 hours) maybe i'm just used to pain???
Over here you can not get tattoo without parental consent and you still have to be at least 16. For piercing, earrings are fine after a month of birth, but also parental consent and at least 16. 18 if it's a private part or somewhere where it's risky. And a bunch of paperwork.
Had a guy grab my arm because it hurt. Tattoo got fucked and I told him to go get it done somewhere else because I didn't want to bother. Saw him later on and he, for better or worse, had it removed for the most part. Blamed me.
I'm wanting to get a tattoo myself. My first tattoo is gonna be Michael Myers' Thorn symbol he has tattooed on his wrist. Edit: yes I know it'll hurt a lot since they drag the tattoo needle on the skin.
TLDR; Did research to get a good artist, but still ended up with a shitty first tattoo. I was a tattoo virgin 6-7 years ago and got my first tattoo on my wrist. The artist was well known in my area as being this amazing artist who did fantastic pieces. His portfolio was solid and I had even seen several of his pieces walking around. (Yeah, I was that annoying person who went up to people and remarked how wonderful their tattoos were and asking where they got them from.) However, when I went in for my consult, he wasn't exactly the professional I was expecting. I told him that I wanted the piece to be a bracelet, with this specific shape on one part, some semi-colons, and the rest was up to him. When I came back for the tattoo, he had done absolutely no prep and took half an hour to draw up the design. Pretty damn simple looking and not really what I wanted, but I was too timid to say no. He begins tattooing and the lines are complete crap. Partway through, he says that he has never been good at lines on curved spaces (wrists, ankles, necks, etc.) and that he normally does them on flatter spaces, like biceps, back, etc. I really wish that I had known that beforehand!!! He finishes up, his color is extremely patchy, and he leaves one area completely blank. I'm like uhhh, you plan on finishing that area? He's like Oh, sure, do you want a bow there or something? *sigh* Yeah, I guess. He actually finishes and charges me $180 for this monstrosity (Yes, I still tipped.) On top of that, he says that the experience was the second worst he has ever had (not due to me, but due to him not knowing how to proceed with most of the tattoo). I was pretty shocked at his own ignorance and being willing to do the tat anyway. Also, I was really envious of the tat model pictures he had on his wall who had these amazing pieces, while I was left with crap. I did so much research to find a great artist and was still let down royally. Ugh.
I wonder if tattoo artist cringe when people want butterflies and flowers. I think I would get so sick of doing those if i were an artist. I actually do have a flower myself but it is inside a vampire's mouth. So, does that count?
I do respect tattoos and i dont mind people telling me their stories about them. I just never got one myself mostly because i never see myself why i should get one in the first place lol
If you're into weird stuff, keep it out of random people's life... I mean, i get it, i get a few happy tingles when i go to the dentist, but they'd never know! I never moaned at them or did anything inappropriate! Don't make these poor tattoo artist's day weird just because you get turned on by pain and/or humiliation. That's your world, not theirs.
Idk if this is bad for the person giving the tattoo since they can't move my arm around I popped on my headphones and practically fell asleep from my first tattoo. It to me didn't even hurt
This video made me physically ill, due to the fact he had spiderman game on in the background, which makes me motion sick. Had to 'listen' to the rest. Nope on watching anything related to the spiderman game.
I got my First Tattoo about 3 1/2 Years Ago. I got it on my upper arm. I live it till this day. I still remember some of what my Tattoo Artist said. I impressed Him on how well I handled it. It didn't hurt that bad. It hurt as bad as a scrap. And yeah it's not a small Tattoo. (Which yeah it has gotten bigger over the years because now I'm buffer.) Which yeah I have plans for more Tattoos. Mainly because of Funds. But also can't get a certain one I badly want because Parents would kill me. It be a mix of my Religion Symbol, my Gender Identity and my Sexuality. (Gender Identity and Sexuality be in a heart shape. My Religion Symbol would there in full. But where none of the heart touches it. Also Parents full on hate my Religion. So I don't tell them.) Another thing. I have a Severe Phobia of Needles. Like Doctor Needles. Doing better on Dentist Needles. But yeah oddly enough this didn't scare that bad. Like at first I was scared. But yeah I had too much fun talking to the Tattoo Artist and the Tattoo Artist there. It made the experince nice.
My cousin wanted to get a tatoo. i tailed along because i wanted to record him screaming. He tatood a small dragon on his arm. She screamed like she wasnt going to see tmrw like damn it was loud.
I have a few tattoos plz for the love of God these things r painful for most people u know who i mean u know urself. And the cost money dont go if u can't handle it
Am I the only one that would just keep going until the customer tells me to stop regardless of screaming and drama... Sure I will ask a few times but if you tell me to keep going I will keep going.
Tbf you can prepare yourself, first one was 4 hours, then 4 again and the last one 6 hours. It's not that painful but it's an endurance course tbh, so Usually I sleep well before, I eat before getting tattooed and I always bring some sweet drink with me. And it's going fine. Also we speak about some stuff or listen to music so I'm not really focus on it. But Im still really bored in the last two hours and it's still horrible when he tattoo again the spot he already did before, or when he rubs the dry paper, at the end Im like "you mf* 😆
It always surprises me when I hear stories of people throwing up and fainting. My first tattoo was a 2 hour leg piece, my second tattoo was a six hour back piece. Really didn't hurt that much, and I was reading the entire time. Still trying to figure out how I want to fill it or what details I want to add to it.
I am currently about to get my first tattoo and it proves just how nerdy I am lol btw its the star wars rebel symbol
I got A tattoo of my bfs name at 17, I know it was really stupid. But here's the story: so, me and him (mark) started dating at the age of 16, and we met at 14, anyways, when we started dating i though it was a good idea to get a tattoo of his name on my wrist but like a bracelet, for ex: a rubber bracket with writing on it like this: M A R K
My tattoo artist said that its permanent and if I was sure, and ofc my mind though "We'll be together till we die!"
8 years later, we got married, and had 2 kids, but unfortunately I found out he's cheated on my thks 3 different women and has had a threesome in OUR bed while I was out working, and he's been abusing our kids while I'm not home.
I do have a chest tattoo of the Thick44 logo from neebs gaming. RIP Thick
Some people just can't handle a little pain.
My very first tattoo tickled so bad that, I had to stick my fist in my mouth so I wouldn't move from laughing.
I hate pain and needles and I have 4 tattoos. My first one is on my left shoulder. And it didn't hurt to me, just felt like a cat scratch then goes numb. And the only name I have on me is my son's over my heart. (38f)
I'm going to tell my first tattoo artist to keep going even if I pass out
Got something on the palm of my hand and it was by far the worst tattoo pain.
"at one point, she tells the bf this is more intense than hooking up where the sun don't shine. And I wanted to die." bust out laughing.
I feel asleep when i got my first tattoo. I got a celtic knotwork bracelet. It took about two hours. It was a nice nap.
The Artist I used rubbed bonjela in before the tattoo and had almost no pain.
Almost passed out on my finger tat, it still isn’t finished lmao, it was also my 19th one 😭💀😂😂
My uhh.. In Indonesia we don't really really take tattoo. Cuz we r Muslim. Most*
A star outline?
As in… a star?
Only tattoos I would get is the heart ❤️ with 'mom' in it and Magic Mickey.
Note to self, keep some yuck buckets at my station
Had a guy grab my arm because it hurt.
Tattoo got fucked and I told him to go get it done somewhere else because I didn't want to bother.
Saw him later on and he, for better or worse, had it removed for the most part.
Blamed me.
I love tattoos. I'm getting my next one 9 days from now. Getting a fox this time. I only have animals tattooed.
I'm wanting to get a tattoo myself. My first tattoo is gonna be Michael Myers' Thorn symbol he has tattooed on his wrist.
Edit: yes I know it'll hurt a lot since they drag the tattoo needle on the skin.
That thorn symbol is the Rune for Thor :3
Ugh.
I’ll probably end up on this Reddit if I get a tat, I’m a wimp
9:00 I got my ears pierced when I was 8
I would probably get a Pride flag as my first tattoo ( I’m 12)
When i was much younger, i always wanted a tattoo, but now i'm twice as old, i ask myself, why the heck would someone defaced their body?
I get nervous about the annual flu shot. No way I’d ever get a tattoo.
My parents would never let me get a tattoo
“Why are you guys touching me, thats gay”
I got my first tattoo when I was 18 and on my chest. I think I fell asleep
story 5 wtf is wrong with that girl???
I got four tattoos in one month after my first! 😂
And the cost money dont go if u can't handle it
How come these reddit videos always do the thing of one random short story and then a long story afterwards???
Am I the only one that would just keep going until the customer tells me to stop regardless of screaming and drama...
Sure I will ask a few times but if you tell me to keep going I will keep going.
People ARE stupid - i got a strict no letter or numbers on me - im neither a notebook nor a traffic sign
No tattoos for me, thanks. I already got a few birth marks. They’ll cost as much to remove as tattoos, according to the guy at the clinic. 🙄
Name tattoos are cursed. Only tattoo names of your parents and your children.
9:09 imagine beng adopted and wanting a piercing. how stupid!!
