The fact that Cory prioritizes his employees and actively seeks to help them expand their skills and confidence is evidence, to me at least, that he is a great boss. When you build your business on a foundation like that, you can survive any hard times, imo.
Absolutely! This channel is the reason I do my best to support my favorite LFS. Sometimes they make it hard. I wanted 100 rummynose tetras they are charging $5 per fish while online I can get them anywhere from $2.50 - $3 and in the end saving the couple hundred dollars is hard to pass up. Same with my fluval Fx6 I got it at a big box store for $200 at my LFS it would have been $500
I've been wanting one of your spunge filters for a while, I'll make an order and cut Amazon/eBay out as much as I can for the things I still need. I'll grab the brine shrimp hatcher if it's not outside my spending limit (hope not, I like the idea of growing healthy treats and supplemental food - amazes me that I can grow so many things very well but I struggle with things like duckweed, lol - too much aeration, I think. I encourage others to do the same! Support small businesses such as this one - especially ones that don't mark you up 200-500% like the Marineland near my home. Hard to respect that place due to its corporate BS - but I feel bad and buy beneficial bacteria and etc. there sometimes since it's local. Good for frozen fish food, but not much otherwise. Petco & Petsmart shouldn't even be allowed to sell fish... Wish you were closer to my area!
I love the tote approach and its reasonable for just about any hobbyist. Start with 1 and grow out organically as you can. Cory's done a great job of laying out a map or model for an approach on how to scale. All of that setup can be scaled down or up to be iterative. Love that about this fish room.

Cory, you've come a long way since the opening of your shop. It's been a pleasure to watch you grow from the little fish store, under construction, to what you've made it today.
I love how your fish room looks and it’ll be exciting to see it slowly develop and become greener :) working on my fish room, I can kind of understand. I want things to go fast and look good but at the same time, buying things in large quantities isn’t cheap and I also don’t want to burn myself out
Ryo your fish room is coming along beautifully 😍 plus you're amazing Aquascape congratulations on your recent entry 🙏💚🌿🐟🌿 Keep up the wonderful work my friend!! I'm definitely enjoying what the Co-op is doing and I wish someday that I could visit there 🙏🙏 I actually got to order some plants. cryts, anubiys, and some others from them today !! Plus I got a chance to order some of their amazing sponge filters. My favorite by far is the dwarf water lily ❤️ I'm going to have to wait till the next time to get them though, they were out of stock 😭😍❤️🌿🐟🌿💚
Absolutely amazing fish room. These videos are so peaceful and relaxing to watch, they help destress the day to day grind. Thanks and keep the videos coming.
Elmer made my day!!! So cute, especially at the end where he picks up his algae wafer-cookie and splits. Thanks, Cory, for another great interesting educational video. You are appreciated!!! USA
My endlers out bred their 10 g, and I'm not shipping anything until after New Years day, so they are now in a 30 g tote sitting on cinder blocks. I know how to do this from years of your videos. You already know I like these wandering around the fishroom just chatty chatting. Love that you are doing things slow and easy, as you said, like us regular hobbyists have to do. It's encouraging and inspiring. Looking forward to seeing all the plants coming into the fish room. It's going to be so serene and peaceful. I still don't know why, but there is just something so satisfying about watching fish being fed. 👍❤👍
Love this and all your videos. If it was my room. I would put lattice work down the middle of each row and grow different plants up the middle. Go for almost a goliad farms look. Or even put planter boxes that recirculates the water down the middle and put trees or ferns in it. That would be awesome.
Have recently found this channel and have ordered some plants and root taps and all in one and I got a Murphy stick with the second order and I'm hypedddd
Cory I love your channel and it's really helped me get confident with my one little office tank that's been making me so happy (and heartbroken, and ecstatic, and panic-stricken) the past 2 years. Thanks so much for not just showing perfect tanks and setups; it's great to know that we ALL have days when we just DO NOT WANT TO SCRUB. Gonna go to sleep with a smile on my face and dream of my next fishy adventure...
I got some of those pest snails or pond snails whatever they are! Then things are glass cleaning pros! Only had em 2 days and they workin it hard! Glad I found your videos wish I lived closer I’d come to your store! Thanks for what you do Cory
Love the chill vibes these types of videos give off and I really appreciate the whole do it like a hobbyists mentality gives me inspiration that one day I’ll have a fish room half as epic!
Brilliant. I aimed to get the perfect aquarium once, but realized it's not about benchmarks. The fish are thriving, and seem to know I'm trying! You always make me think and try filling your shoes. Long may you wade in the Amazon!
You could put some young koi to grow out with Elmur and watch them develop in a tank, might be quite interesting to see the colours coming through? Then you could release them in to the pond when they out grow the tank.
I'll probably never go this route or get this big, but your comment on how your Corydorus cleaned up sediment is so true. I had a tank that had sat for a year, just the water and some plants, but there was crazy sediment. I bought twenty Amano Shrimp and six Salt and Pepper Corydorus to help clean up the tank. It took about three weeks and they had it spick and span. My current job is not that much of a project, just setting up a twenty long in our bedroom for my wife. Always a pleasure Cory, take care.
Can't believe how good the fish room is looking so much hard work went into putting it together I can only imagine the hard work that Cory and Dean went through to make it happen from beginning to end keep up all the great work
Loose 6 inches off the fx6 intake ,, the shell debris wont get picked up ,,, Regards from the UK Thank you for everything you have passed on to us all over the years ,,,
Some ideas for videos as I know you were asking (Some of these are just my ideas, and others I've brought up on forums with interesting conflicting thoughts): Should you keep fish from different continents together. Homemade fish foods Maybe try to bring in newer fish into the American market, and make tutorials on how to breed them (Ex. Macropodus occelatus) Maybe try to make new varieties of fish and document the process of doing that Do you really need water conditioner for well water (For heavy metals etc.) Try new products (A particular one I've been wondering about is the aqua flora, look it up, I'm perplexed) How to breed different fish, maybe bring dean on for that too I would personally be interested in the progression of different takes (Ever see king of DIY, kind of like that, video journals of tanks)
My idea for the 230g aquarium would be to stock it with fish from the Fly River. Melanotaenia goldiei would be amazing but that species is hard to find. Other rainbowfish like rubrostriata and parkinsoni would be great. A large school of Pseudomugil, like the gertrudae, would be great too.
For your turtle, I would suggest using a long plastic clear tube and drop the food directly where he is. I use this method for my large pleco in my cichlid tank. Love your videos!!
Do you happen to have a video that goes in to detail on your tub setup as far as thought process, plumbing, what you are using for the air supply etc? It also sounded like you had automated water changes in addition to the automatic feeders. Would love to a deep dive on the setup. Love the setup and would like to setup something like that with 5 tubs for tilapia. Thanks for sharing the content, has been great inspiration!
Hey Cory, I appreciate your teaching me with such transparency and knowledgebase. What plants are you growing in your fish room? I'm starting and also in no rush for them to grow.
Oh my goodness it's so beautiful 😍 lLady Bird is always a darling.. I finally got me a small order through to Aquarium Co-op!! And I'm so thankful it's definitely something I was doing on my end and they made it easy enough for me to navigate!! The only thing I didn't get yet was my dwarf water lilies which are absolutely one of my favorite favorite plants!! Hopefully I will catch it the next time around unless you want to send Santa Claus with some 😂🥰❤️🙏🌿🐟🌿💚
Hey Cory and wife just an FYI depending on how long the egg was in the water eggs can drown. I'm pretty sure all turtles need land to lay eggs. If your girl is gravid they need to get out of the water and dig a hole and bury it. Some semi aquatic turtles will even become egg bound if they don't find a proper place to lay and it can be very very bad....if your wife found one egg then there should be more....turtles will eat them but you should still see the shells. Even your fly river pig nose turtle. The females need to come out to lay.
I only have a 15gal tank and am less than a year into actual dedicated planted tanks and so far I struck a great balance of fish (neon tetra school and corys) to where my plants have fought off any algae growth but, there is enough nutrients that I don’t fertilize at all and have to trim my plants about every 6-8 weeks. Not crazy fast growth but solid and steady.
Great video! These are my favorite videos that you put out! Simple and inspiring while also hidden golden nuggets of information to help hobbiests. Will there be more fish room tour videos anytime in the future?
So do you just use sponge filters only for your ponds? I’m having trouble with my indoor pond I am using a power head and your big sponge filter I have like 7 plants in there horns wart some long pond Val moss some big Anubis if I spelled that right anyway I have five white clouds and one black Molly in there I have had it up and running for 5 months it has light gravel on the bottom and I’m struggling to keep the nitrates down. My water has 10ppm already I do massive water changes one sometimes twice a week. Do you think I should get more filtration or idk I need help. It’s an20gal tub.

Fighting string algae, too!

Cory will you be moving Murphy’s current tank to the fish room? That could be a good option for the larger Peruvian fish.
No, it’s staying at the store. Could always move the Peruvian fish there though.
Incredible fish room
Are you ever gonna visit Eric Bodrock again? Would love to see how his fish room looks today
I hope so, the 2 year detour we've been on kinda threw a wrench into all the plans we had.
Put one of your large pre filters on that FX6.
I would, and have in the past but the water is deeper than my arms so it makes an absolute mess again when it’s time to clean it
