  • No Evidence Of Progression: New Outcome Measure in Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
No Evidence of Progression, or NEP, is a new outcome measure coined during the ORATORIO clinical trial where we studied people with Primary Progressive MS (PPMS) and randomly assigned them to receive either Ocrelizumab (Ocrevus) or placebo. Compared to the placebo group, those receiving Ocrevus had about a 50% high likelihood of having NO PROGRESSION for a 3 month period of time!
The definition states that there is no significant change over a 3 month period in 3 different neurological tests: the EDSS, the nine hole peg test, and the timed 25 foot walk test. Each are described in the video.
It is EXCITING that we had to invent a new metric to explain an amazing clinical finding (NO EVIDENCE OF PROGRESSION)! And, it's amazing that a medication can increase the likelihood of one of my patients experiencing NEP!

Very interesting 🤔 so let me ask you this please. Can this test be used for all patients or just PPMS? THIS INFO IS HUGE

NEP has only been applied in the PPMS ORATORIO trial in people with PPMS. That stated, I feel that NEP could be used as a metric in any PwMS. My thought is that 1) ALL PwMS at are risk of progression , and 2) ALL the components of NEP (EDSS, 9HPT, T25FW) are easily testable in ALL PwMS, I personally think it could be applied! #WeHaveMS

This was very good to know, I'm going for my 3rd infusion in August. I'll pray and hope for good news. Thank you for this information for the goals.

This is very exciting news. Although I have not progressed since my diagnosis as I approach my 10 year mark I find myself increasingly gripped with fear of progression. The idea that some steps are being made and a term such as NEP is now out there and being used makes me hopeful.

Which aspect of the wellness course was most impactful for you Stephanie? core strengthening? flexibility? cardio? balance? or the educational didactic portion?
