I love Perles De Lalique. For me I bought it as a similar scent to Dior Midnight Poison. Perles is fresher and peppery. I do miss that amber and vanilla in the drydown of Midnight Poison. I've never tried POAL but definitely going to sniff it next time I'm in a department store. Great video 🖤

Portrait of a Lady is the one and the only one, love that scent, but the best part of this video to me, is that you answer a question that I had, I was wondering if Octavian was similar to the night, I still find it hard to convince myself to buy a bottle of the night, so if Octavian is similar and more complex, I go for that one and get only a decant of The NIght, I don't think I could finish a bottle of it anyway. Also I just blind bought Pana Dora's Grand Musk, that one is compared to The Night and Octavian, so let's see how it goes. Thank you Sebastian!!!

I love Electimuss's Summanus, but Octavian's bottle is so gorgeous, they're very heavy! I just bought Tobacco Jam by Criminal Elements, and it is a really intoxicating jammy spicy Turkish Delight Rose scent even though the main notes are Raspberry, Tobacco, Suede, Styrax & Hay. The sillage/skin scent is stunning & utterly delectable. I keep getting wafts of it which make me swoon as I go about my day.

I also am smitten with PoaL since first coming across it in 2013. To me, Porpora is close, but I find it brighter and, yes, colder than PoaL. I am itching to get my hands on Octavian; it's been on my Wishlist since viewing your Electimuss video. Thank you for this listing...
I might suggest alternative. Check out Pana Dora - Grand Musk. Smells 90% like Octavian, but without the cumin note a some added cinnamon that makes it more modern. Also it's really close to FM - The Night, take out the oud opening of the Night and you have Grand Musk. I would say for the price, Grand Musk beats both Octavian and Night. Pana Dora is flying under the radar atm. but it's good house.
I'm almost running out of Portrait of a Lady, but I do have Amouage Epic Woman, as a lovely substitute.
Contes du Levant from L'Artisan is really close too, the central accord is almost identical, although it dries down much quicker to a patchouli and white muscs base.

LOVE your content, you are my favorite frag influencer… I have Monaliza from the clone house of Alexandria. I don’t know whether I fell in love with the profile or if that interpretation, composition of the notes she has in common w/ PoaL specifically. I think I’m going to jump on an opportunity to get a very good deal on a 100ml bottle of porpora. I just hope that I don’t sorely miss the black currant & sandalwood in PoaL & clone Monaliza specifically. I’m down to my last 3 ml’s & this is one of only 2 scents I must have on hand at all times to feel ‘complete’ … I do hope that I will be even happier with the Porpora as I am positive that the quality of Porpora far surpasses Monaliza 🤞… unfortunately PoaL herself is far the expensive for me to truly enjoy wearing her whenever it tickles my fancy without thinking ‘2 sprays, 50 cents’ or similar
For me, Portrait of a Lady was a miss at first sniff. I belive I was expecting something a bit warmer like Cairo from Penhaligon's. That being said, I really grew to appreciate and enjoy POAL.

I always loved rose fragrances, even as a little girl...I used to wear fragrances that some said made me "smell like an old lady" - lol! I guess some Roses have that nostalgic feel about them. But, as an adult, when I started my perfume journey, I started finding some bad@$$ rose perfumes! None more bad@$$ than Portrait of a Lady! This fragrance to me is THE Rose fragrance...the one that all others in my mind are held up to. I adore it..I mean, even if someone doesn't particularly care for rose- I feel anyone can appreciate this fragrance for the masterpiece that it is..Thank you for always sharing your love for POAL and giving us Rose lovers some more choices to add to our collection..xoxo

Areej Al Sheila by Swiss Arabian reminds me of Portrait of a lady but only last about 4-5 hours on my skin.

What about Montale's black aoud? To my nose it's pretty similar to Portrait Of A Lady but there's a oud at the place of the incense and the start reminds me of the dry down of the Portrait Of A Lady: a lot of earthy patchouli with a smooth and sharp as well roses
Noses are different if it reminds you of it it reminds you of it. To me they might have similar ideas but don't smell alike. No fruits, warm spices at all in the Montale.
Poal is the fragrance i wear the most. I also wear Black Aoud Montale and Amour Bakhoor from Avery that go in that direction. Also Midnight oud from Boadicea smells similar.

I've just been given a sample of PoAL...someone knew I liked Jo Malone's rose and oud and gave me a sample of it... Very lovely perfume but I couldn't wear it every day..

Perles de Lalique is an amazing cheapie. You can feel it is not a lazy creation. It's outrageously good.
Only the longevity is poor on me.

Hi. I do love POL, and another surprisingly accurate rendition was put out by Molton Brown some years back. If you can find any Molton Brown Rose Absolute, it’s amazing how similar it is. The bath oil in particular is fantastic!

I think it's a rose Chypre and perhaps it's a bit like POAL. Maybe watch this video: th-cam.com/video/kFaP-YVpUg0/w-d-xo.html and check out the cheapies I mention. They are not going to be identical but they might do the trick! ;)
I bought Porpora a few years ago because it was supposed to be very close to POL. Indeed, it is outrageously similar yet boring. Porpora is a flat version of POL. It doesn't smell bad but lacks depth and poetry. I have POL and never reach for Porpora, why would I, when I have a such a better version of notes combo.
Do you think EL might realize it should tweak the POAL formulation to brought back to it's original formulation? Yes, it still nice, but first off the fragrance now definitely doesn't last as long as the original, which is a shame.There are other formulation differences too, but the strength is not the same. A little used to do it, but now I feel like I have to bathe in it and it still doesn't last a full day at all.
The worst on the list is Nirvana Rose. I, too, found it at TJMaxx and returned it immediately, it's absolutely horrible.
And what about Majda Bekkali 's "Mon nom est Rouge"... ? To me, is very similar to POAL.
Sadly that brand is not easy to find near me or even on my travels! 🥲

How is it possible to say that Perles de Lalique, an award-winning and innovative fragrance of 2006 (contains the molecule Paradisone with jasmine odor and an amazing 80% of the Iso E Super molecule!) is an alternative fragrance to Frederic Malle Portrait Of A Lady , just because the first costs around €30 and the second over €300?
it doesnt matter how much something costs, try al haramain detour noir, its a 40-50$ clone smells 99% like layton. there are also many other clones for small money that smell amazing and attract compliments... all those 200-300$ frags are heavily overpriced. you are paying for the brand and for the perfumer. in production the juice costs 20-30$
I must be one of the few to not like "Portrait of a lady", It's too feminine and overpriced like all Frederic Malle fragrances.

I am sorry, but to me this is awful. I gave it so many chances.
All too often, I'm left confused if a fragrance you're talking about is masculine oriented, feminine or unisex. I wish you'd make it clearer for each fragrance. Disclaimer: In the case of this video, I get that rosy or sweet fragrances can be marketed toward and worn by men. Also, some bottles (flacons), designs help to reveal which gender they're aimed at but it's not always obvious.
Also, sorry to pick you up on this, but, when you show us a bottle, it may be ok to see a glimpse of it, but that's about all you _do_ give us, a fleeting, shaky glimpse; instead (or additionally), can't you put up a photo of it while you continue talking (about it) in the background? _Sell_ it to us. 🙂
You may be *THE* definitive guide to fragrances (a 'fraguru' ?) on TH-cam, but your competence in attention to detail in your videos is somewhat amateurish at times - though that might be because you (thankfully) give us great content on a daily basis. 👍
