    Sony phones in the photography department will never have the same result as the other smartphones because Sony does not use AI on the image processing side and again this is wrong because the AI post processing photos come out overexposed vibrant colors and oversaturated night is not night anymore but more days and the proses are mostly unnatural fakes that reflect in the eyes. The devices from Sony do not do this and the resulting photos are closer to a mirrorless camera, when exposed to colors, contrast, image noise, etc. it's much closer to a Sony Alpha, Canon or Nikon than an iPhone, Xiaomi or Samsung.... You can test this.

    • @UpsideLens
      @UpsideLens  22 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Well I'm afraid to tell you they do use AI ! Look at that photo of the main sensor where the Xperia 1VI reconstructed that tree and looks like it was made out of Lego ! Something the Xiaomi doesn't do ! So unfortunately this argument does not stand.

      @@UpsideLens then we could say than the Xperia 1 V is still the better overall photography phone? Even better than the new Sony lytia phones (Xiaomi, Vivo, OPPO) because of their IA and postprocesing?

      @birginvlackable I have done a Xperia 1 V Vs Xiaomi 14 Ultra video, the answer is again the Xperia sensors are just too small to compete with the rest of the pack. As soon as you turn manual pro mode on, its just night and day difference.

      @@UpsideLens Sony does use AI to process images, but they only handle a few cases and are not as optimized and powerful as their competitors. Or basically the software is not complete yet.
      Xperia 1 VI is considered a generation change in Sony's approach by making it closer to mass users. I hope generation VII will have major changes in terms of larger sensors and more complete software when shipped. I heard rumors that Sony will change the design next year and have a major upgrade in 2025.
      I'm also impressed with Sony as they stick to the smartphone market for a long time despite their poor business.

    The most frustrating is and I have seen this done for many years (like you said) Sony sell the largest and BEST sensors (like on the XIAOMI 14 ultra) for the competition (which contains one inch type sensors)-but on sony's own products we get 2nd or third best sensor and never the first. Yes past Xperia 1 and 5 line can shoot really good and nice images, but you neet to shoot it in manual and edit later, but in point and shoot capabilities I don't think Sony can make it even in top 3 since SE kxxx times...

      @theSFCchannel 21 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@konkurentLC I'm more of a videographer than photo and here is a nice tip. Those who video on auto are totally insane (speaking frankly) as no matter what equipment or phone you have, you are likely to encounter rolling shutter also unnatural movement of the subject. So rule of thumb is that you must follow the rule of two. That is : set your SHUTTER speed to twice your frame rate. That is 30 fps 1/60th of a second and 60 fps 1/120th of a sec etc. Your Samsung user will NEVER know this as they are used to doing it on auto. Now following the rule of two outside will lead to over exposure and so this is where one of the many advantages of a ND filter comes in. Your Samsung /apple auto users will never know this rule of two and even in auto it never does this. So unless you are vlogging the rule of two is the way to go and I thank SONY for this in increasing my knowledge as being forced to do things manually, makes you better as a person as it forces one to suffer the learning curve to adapt to change . I am a IMDB credited actor and now I'm ready to go behind the camera too to film. I thank Sony Xperia for that.

    The low light picture of the motorbike seems just out of focus… I am quite satisfied with my Xperia M6, the criticism about having 2 12 megapixel sensors and one 48, I find justified. It’ weaknesses when taking photos for example. But some concern just software, so an update in the future should solve this. However, something to highlight is its extraordinary long battery life, the macro mode, the optical zoom - I know, it s not perfect, but it’s there and great fun, and its great anti-slippery surface.

    I am a video user. The photography is secondary. I do need the sd card, the headphone jack and I love the lack of a notch or cutout and HATE that in all other phones. I would like to see a video comparison between this phone and other top flagships. You made some very important points here and I will be addressing this on my channel...when it finally launches. Thanks mate...perhaps if Sony does a mark 2 of the Pro i we could see these issues resolved...at a price.

      @UpsideLens  19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      As a video user currently (and until/if Sony releases the pro video part of the app) the VI is mediocre at best if you prioritise the video aspect as it will apply all the post processing you really don't want (HDR / sharpening / saturation....) on the Xiaomi , yes I know you don't have an SD card slot (headphones jack well you can always use Bluetooth headset or use USB C adapter) BUT you are spoilt for choice when it comes to video !!! You can record 4K 10bit LOG if you want, in any colour space your heart desires (via mcpro24fps) and you can even record RAW video up to 4K60 14bit using Motion Cam.... Something no Xperia can match !!! And if course the beauty of it all is that you bypass the ISP and don't get any nasty post processing !

      I think a lot is due to early software and hopefully things will improve as I was left rather puzzled by how bad the raw files were in terms of noise. @@user-nt5kg9dh7k but which 2024 flagship is not capable of that? And best part? When I edit that shots another day and share it with bride and she share it with her family people was thinking that this was shots from payd photographer which was there and they don't understand how he deliver photos so quickly. Back when the 1 inch IMX989 Sony sensor was released i was almost sure the Xperie 1 IV was going to get it since Sony claimed it was made for flagship smartphones and the Ultra 12s got it, but then was disappointed that it didn’t. Then a year later i was sure they were finally going to put that 1 inch sensor into the 1 V, yet again they didn’t and instead came up with that new stacked transistor technology so i gave them a pass. Then Sony presented the LYT-900 and yet again claimed it was made for flag ship smartphones, so i thought this time for sure it was going to come to the Xperia 1 VI, maybe even paired with that stacked transistor tech that would make it by far the best smartphone sensor, most light sensitive and best dynamic range. That would be a true flagship and what we deserved for that price…just to find Sony not upgrading any of their 3 sensors for the 1 VI at all!!!
    Its honestly been exhausting watching Sony not give their “flagship” phone actual flagship hardware but charge flagship $.
    Only thing holding me from buying a Xiaomi 14 Ultra is the security concerns and other stuff behind the company. If that Xiaomi 14 Ultra came as it is, just from Sony with their badge on it, i’d buy it asap !

One of the reasons I went with Sony was their camera app. It was above and beyond anything Samsung and other brands offered, and now they've completely butchered it. What's most annoying though, is that once a new model is out, Sony completely ignores the previous models. If you want new software features, such as 48MP mode, 2.0 x mode, etc, you'll have to buy the new model. And no chinese gadgets for me thanks. By the way, I don't think they will ever use the Lytia on the Xperia, as they typically only use custom sensors. They may have something planned to change the game by the end of this year or in 2025, especially since they didn't sell Xperia in the US this time around. It seems they are sticking with older hardware on the 1 VI, possibly saving something special for their next flagship. (Just my conspiracy theory, haha)

    Xiaomi has been doing this for years, buying the biggest and the best sensors from other manufacturers. I have an old Mi 10T Pro midranger with a flagship sensor from Samsung that records native 6k60 in 10bit in Filmic (not the interpolated 8k that many Androids offer).
    It's just the stock software was never great. But now with Leica, their colors are so much better than before.
    With newer Huaweis showing so much sharpening, I might be switching over if I can find a good deal on a 14 Ultra.

    Good thing that you highlighted about tele camera sensor. They should use bigger sensor or better software processing to get better result. But i believe if sony can fit in bigger sensor to their tele camera they would have done it. I think they do not want to sacrifice the phone thickness or camera bump. It is Sony being Sony. And it will not fair to compare 1vI image quality with others phone 1" sensor. May be you try to compare image quality of this Xiaomi phone with 2021 Xperia Pro-I main camera in raw file(shot in manual mode) . See which is better 1" to 1".
    My only complain to 1VI is price. If they want to gain more casual user they need to resuce the price. Other than that the phone is fantastic. And to fully utilize the 1VI camera setup, ones just need the skill.

When you tout your product as the end game photography product (they keep throwing the ALPHA brand in their marketing !) and you price it HIGHER than those with much better hardware, one has to wonder if it is worth it hence the comparison. If we were talking about a £500/$600 phone id say fair enough, you wouldnt see me comparing a nothing phone to the Xiaomi for example but here I think it is completely acceptable to compare them. Sometimes I wonder if they're borked the detail on the raws to push people to the 48mpx, which is just in a different league detail-wise. But the problem with the 48mpx is processing time and shutter lag (varying depending on the complexity of the shot) and what you see isn't even what you get from the 12mpx in terms of HDR. And, of course, it's still a jpeg. A straight full rez raw could be delivered faster and would always be better. Perplexing.

    • @UpsideLens
      @UpsideLens  23 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Nah 48mp is not that much better, I mean in ideal light it's fine but less than perfect condition and it falls apart very quick ! I did test it and got a few samples that day, nothing to shout about, 48mp on Xperia or 50mp on Xiaomi (in raw though) still not that great, there's a reason the pixels are binned. Individual pixels are just too small to gather enough light and since the said pixels are doing a different job they were intended in doing originally (quad bayer ) they tend to not be so accurate.... So "full" sensor data is not the way forward with these types of sensors.

    Well, coming from an iPhone my approach to this phone has been a bit different (I have never had a Sony before).
    1) On iPhones, the image processing is most aggressive, you can only avoid this by shooting real RAW. But: You can't properly shoot RAW at all (not ProRAW!). The display will always show you a correct exposure, even histogram and zebras, but your result will be underexposed. It is like guessing and puzzling step by step to get a correctly exposed RAW. On the Sony, that is not a problem. It's like setting up your camera, it gives you what you see, even though the quality of the RAW surprisingly is better on the iPhone. On the Sony it looks a lot like vintage, a bit blurred, rather soft. Still you can get some decent images. If I want top quality, I will aim for my A7R III nevertheless. But if you want to be on a small setup without a bag or anything, it is beneficial to have a phone that will do what you want and not follow its own agenda like all these computational dummies.
    2) Concerning JPG-shooting: I have a feeling like they increased sharpening over the 1 V which looked softer and more natural in terms of photos. I guess that has to do with their approach to get all the apps in one while giving social media shooters a more ready to upload image (which is what Apple and Samsung to, thus robbing the Xperia's strengths by increasing sharpness, saturation and contrast). Unfortunately, the 1 V is not an option for me because the 21:9 aspect ratio is rather useless for me and I need battery over display resolution.
    3) Video is where it gets REALLY interesting. iPhone video footage is really ugly, it has a lot more contrast than necessary, it is VERY HDR-ish, it is always sharpened too much and colours are unrealistic, too. It just looks fake. What you get with S-Cinetone on the Sony is most impressive. It gives you superb colours and a rather soft, natural image. Has been a pleasure to record video with this for the first time since iPhone 8+. Stabilization is absolutely perfect even at 4k60 which makes it a very good companion on the go. A sweet spot that my a7R III is weak at: capturing 4K handheld while walking. ;))
    4) general observation: Using these lenses feels a lot more like optics than it does with the iPhone. On a 24mm FF lens, if you get very close to your subject, you will have blurred background no matter if you are at f1.4 or f4, it is just the way optics work. With an iPhone, you will still have nearly everything in focus which doesn't make sense and looks idiotic.
    Just a few thoughts because I was evaluating these files today, too.

    • @UpsideLens
      @UpsideLens  23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for your insight on the iPhone Vs Xperia. Totally agree with you that iPhones raw are way too processed and defeats the point of shooting RAW in the first place. In terms of video I'll disagree to a point. If making use of prores and LOG you can end up with some very very clean footage, and arguably much cleaner than any Xperia can give you (I'd know I had the V too and used it to record all my talking shots with it for the videos) now for a step further in terms of video, the Xiaomi can completely destroy iPhone and most DSLR cameras as it has the ability (albeit with 3rd party software) to shoot up to 14bit 4K60 RAW video, RAW ! alternatively you can also shoot LOG and at over 200mbps with a wide range of colour gamuts, something you really can't achieve on an Xperia. Time will tell what Sony brings with the so promised pro video app whenever that shows up

    • @fotosvond_
      @fotosvond_ 23 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@UpsideLens Well, that is an argument I read a lot these days, however it is not really what I consider a solution. I'll tell you why:
      There is two sides to this, 1) potential pro-users who know how to deal with it and really want to do so, and 2) normal consumers who just want to take photos and videos as memories of whatsoever, a trip, the holidays, family .. I don't know.
      If we take into account that most people who shoot exclusively on phones belong into category 2), we have to sum up: they don't really know how to work with log. And working with Log isn't easy; it's not always most difficult, but depending on your type of Log and your scenes, this will be a procedure of quite some time. You know how to deal with it probably, I know that to a certain amount, too, but most people using a phone as recording device want their footage more or less ready out of the box. Log is the opposite. Log is great, that is for sure (since I saw what a huge difference there is in dynamic range between Cine2 and Slog2/3, I really try to work into that), but Log isn't ready, it costs time and research (= to acquire the knowledge how to work with it), depending on your platform the usable applications to make a good edit may even be quite expensive. If you have 200 videos of your vacation, I guess nobody wants to spend 4 weeks to grade these files. That just isn't the point of it: it isn't work or art, it is more of a documentary style which has to be captured and that's it.
      That is where I see Xperia/S-Cinetone for video: If you want this spot between "crap/unnatural/fake" (iPhone/Samsung etc.) and "do all the work yourself" (let's say "typical A7S III user" :D), that is what I thought of with my 3) aspect above.
      Plus: ProRes produces huge files and if you shoot Log you will want as much information as possible so this enters into a second iPhone minus: internal storage is very expensive. SD slots on the Xperia are relatively slow in comparison to the NAND or whatever they build into these phones nowadays, but it is within the same device, no adapter, cable, external drive or whatsoever that you have to fizzle in on the go while being attacked by angry wasps. Not to speak of the ressources of your computer to handle these huge files etc.
      If I were to shoot log, I probably wouldn't do that on a phone at all because I would want a lot better lenses (the least I would want my video to be on would be a 24mm, I would rather go for a 35mm), more 3-dimensional optics, a proper grip, bottons to control the recording etc. It is for sure beneficial to have a phone being able to do that if your overkill DLSM isn't there with you, but that's a not a priority from this standpoint for me. I rather see phones as group 2) does as long as they give me certain versatility (= don't ruin my footage right away by their AI).
      I don't understand why whese computational companies can't just introduce an option how you want your image to be processed: every basic compact camera can do that. These phones are so smart, they have to die in smartness, adding more and more on top, HDR, Deep Fusion, Tone mapping, ProRAW, Apple Log, etc. pp. That's a lot of stuff for a simple "problem": just let us turn down your sharpening and contrast and it will save all of us a lot of time.

    • @UpsideLens
      @UpsideLens  23 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      The answer to your question is simple, average Joe wants processed videos that are ultra sharp bright and HDRified, MKBHD blind tests have proved that many times over, people just vote for the brightest, sharpest and most saturated media, that's your answer. On one hand you want nice and easy for everyone and that's the answer from phone manufacturers. It would seem you can't have your cake and eat it. There's no magic if you want nice looking footage you have to out in the work, just like photos, a grade and an edit goes a long way. LOG in itself doesn't have to be mindbogglingly hard to edit, all you have to do if you want is record log and conversation REC709, and you're done. You got the benefits of having a wider dynamic range but just shooting LOG. Of course you can then grade your footage to death and like you said not many people will do that but again even if you shot 200 videos on your phone you can directly record in RAW video and encode in H265 LOG and convert straight to REC709 at the press of a button.... Not on iPhone of course but on the Xiaomi via MotionCam you can.
      Again if average Joe wants easy to use settings then they stick to processed media via first party photo/video app.

      You're absolutely in your right to disagree, but I just base my opinions on facts, and here the Sony uses very old hardware (in the tech world 2 years is a long time !) Xiaomi for example uses the latest 1inch type sensor, which improves low light performance and depth of field, but it also combined that with a FULL variable aperture, which allows even more control over the creativity when out and about shooting. The telephotos are separated which means they have much better optics and much larger sensors destroying Sony here as you can see in the video. I wouldn't call the 14 ultra a simple iteration ! Far from it ! If you were also interested in videography you'd know that the hardware on offer here is able to shoot RAW 14bit 4K60 video ! Something the Xperia could only dream of and also 90% of DSLR and mirrorless cameras ! I mean for the price the Xiaomi is at it literally is THE flagship to dethrone. Sony is just making mistakes after mistakes, leaving the US market behind, destroying the photo pro app completely, less stable and more buggy... What are left with ? The combination of harsh jpg compression + soft optics + lack of autofocus + tiny sensor does give pretty bad macro shots, it's just not "clean" a lot of artefacts in the out of focus areas and the transition between focused areas and blur. To me the Xiaomi is much clearer, detailed and sharper when it comes to macro, and that's to be expected when macro has its own dedicated lenses, floating lens and autofocus as well ability to even go as far as do exposure stacking in ultra mode to get noise and artefacts free shots.

    To me its is not detail or sharp on Xiaomi 14 ultra. But its more on artificial AI processing. If you compared with your camera, the leaves of tree wont be like Xiaomi one.

    • @UpsideLens
      @UpsideLens  23 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      On Xiaomi side AI processing of "missing" detail does happen on telephoto shots. An option is actually available in the option to do so. In raw it does not, what you see if what you get out of the sensor minus some other processing (denoise/de-vignetting and so on)

      your lack of understanding how mfsr works is hilarious, just because you don't understand it doesnt mean its AI, all detail is natural, not made up, learn how things work before claiming some nonsense.

    Sony always behind the competition, the camera app experience is terrible, i hope their smartphone division goes bankrupt, nothing change, their software experience is suck ui/stock apps etc, the music never get updated, less customization, lazy works, terrible control centre ui 👎🏻

      I would definitely not wish on Xperia to end up like LG or other companies that recently threw in the towel, but I agree that they have fallen behind and I really hope they are able to learn from it, react and climb that hill back up ! The Xperia brand is iconic and used to be synonymous of quality and resonated well in the world of photography and videography... Time will tell 👍

    It is certain that Sony continues to make money with other brands and that is good because they master their subject.
    The point to think about is that their R&D department is maybe limited on the allocated budget and recycles old with new... It's not easy to manufacture a flagship device in these conditions... At least at this point price for on-board technology it's just impossible... At 600€ it's a gem at 1400 it's a scam...

    If Sony doesn't get back on tracks with the Xperia 1V II , the Xperia 1V is going to be my last Sony phone, the amount of disappointment in the Xperia 1 VI is monumental on every aspect, and yes, the telephoto camera is extremely difficult to get usable photos out of, the ultra wide is barely usable, the main sensor is great, 12MP is just waaaaay too low of a resolution, so Sony if you're reading this and want to save yourselves do the following:
    1. Keep the SD card slot and headphone jack.
    2. Give us quad dac and better audio from the headphone jack.
    3. Bring back the 4k display.
    4. Bring back the led light.
    5. Bring back the album sony app.
    6. Higher resolution ultra wide and telephoto sensors.
    7. Higher screen brightness.
    8. Bring back customizable Always on display.
    9. Don't use any form of notch or screen cutout.
    10. Put the charger in the box.
    11. Faster charging speed.
    Other than that I'll put my money somewhere else, which is unfortunate cause I've been Sony fan since the Sony Ericsson days, there are limits of how much BS we can take... It's a hard earned money you know...

      @Sony if you really read my comment and listen, also bring back the equalizer, and ditch dolby sound and 360 upmix because they do absolutely nothing.

    • @orangeyellow-me1pz
      @orangeyellow-me1pz 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Quad DAC was LG's marketing term. They used a sabre DAC. Sony could make do with the Qualcomm DAC which is good though not up to ESS or Cirrus Logic. they need a better headphone amp. They don't have to drive planars but my msr7 are to hard for them to drive and that is a headphone built for mobile.

    • @ahmadfodeh3413
      @ahmadfodeh3413 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yea, and I'm not even trying planners not even high impedance pairs, I'm just using a 30ohm fidelio x2hr, and it can barely drive them, add to that, they replaced the sony audio settings with dolby settings and equalizer which is a joke and only makes the sound worse... add to the long list Sony needs to fix, is when recording a video in a quiet environment you'll hear the noise of the camera motors/modules working...

      The thing that really made Sony Xperia phones truly special and niche was their similarities with their alpha range of cameras in terms of colour science and photo app features but unfortunately it would seem they're now changing directions and probably not for the best... At this rate I really don't know how long their phone division has got left until they become extinct !

    Mein neuestes Modell ist das Sony Xperia 1VI.
    Es ist 100 % Weltklasse
    Die Kamera ist das Beste, was technisch möglich ist.
    Es ist sehr gut, dass Sony Smartphones herstellt, sie sind etwas Schlaues, alle anderen Hersteller sind wertloser Müll.
    Sie möchten Sony-Smartphones und alle anderen Sony-Geräte kaufen.
    Es ist sehr gut, dass der gesamte Hersteller Sony weiterhin existiert.

    No doubt, the Xiaomi has a better hardware but.. software wise, still a chinese phone. Ive had xiaomi phones in the past and the amount of ads and spying on you is undeniable, I mean, I was talking with someone about a random thing and minutes later I found an ad in the phone about it, and this happens with all chinese phones, someone really close to me has one, and happens all the time.

      @Blue_Man 23 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Had Xiaomi for the last 8 years and this has never happened a single time. Same thing with my 14U at the moment.
      And also what ads? I don't think I've ever seen an ad on mid and high end Xiaomi phones.
      Ads don't exist on high end xiaomi devices, ads are on their low end devices... this is a common myth.
      And no, you aren't using chinese software outside China, global ROM is quite a lot different than Chinese version and goes through strict EU regulations.

      @@Blue_Man Ads within social media apps, like Instagram, Tiktok and more, changes when they "hear you" saying you are looking for something. This happens more often with chinese devices. I have experienced this on xiaomi, honor and huawei. Many other people I know also have gone through this. Sometimes you get a device with global rom, and some other times, you get the chinese one, it depends where you get it. Some people say this also happens on other manufacturers, but I have never seen this on Pixel, Galaxys or Sony devices. I dont use apple so.. I cant tell if they do this or not.
