Judging from the fact that he used Ursa's story ro buy himself a time to get his bending back, if it was martial art fight, Zuko with twin swords might win against Ozai. Zuko was trained by Piandao, the best swordsman in Fire Nation, thus making Zuko one of the best swordsman in the nation. The way Ozai had to refrain himself when Zuko took out his swords, it appears Zuko's swordsmanship is probably the best within Fire Nation royalties.
No it was the sun that betrayed him. Agni did not grant fire benders enough strength while still mostly covered. That's how his treasonous son could defeat him with a filthy snow savage technique. At least that's how Ozai would think about it. Real narcissists can and will twist and turn everything around so that their ego is never damaged.
this part easily one of the sickest moments in avatar, cause ozai is literally like "OH SHIT HE CAN DO THAT?" and when he fought against aang hes like "nah man this is WAY too op, im tired of this redirecting stuff that shit aint fair"
Ozai is like Azula in that he is a brilliant but egotistical natural talent. Zuko on the other hand has had to achieve mastery the hard way. And to quote the great Hermit: "In the world of martial arts, hard work will always beat talent!!"
Correcto.
Idk what's sadder about this: - That Ozai would really kill his son without so much as a second though. - Or Zuko was ready to redirect lightning because he knows his dad would kill him without so much as a second thought. - Or that Zuko had Ozai dead to rights and he chose not to end him because like he said 'It's the Avatar's destiny'.
He actually didn’t expect it..that’s what makes this scene even better..Zuko handled it amazingly and let me add the fact that Ozai used 2 bolts and not just one so zuko was able to control both
I like how he was able to redirect the lightning which such focus and calm, a sign of his growing maturity and emotional growth, and of course, an increase in his fire bending ability... Uncle Iroh taught him well, in many things
On the other spectrum, it shows how much of a cold sociopath that Ozai is since he created that lightning so quickly and efficiently. The fact that he would be murdering his own son didn't even cloud his judgement or make him feel an ounce of emotion.
@@budisutanto5987 I mean he did say earlier that defeating him wasnt his destiny, but rather the avatars. Since, similar to what iroh said, people would see it as a son killing his father to assume power.
@@cemulku9668 True. I just like to point out, that Aang can, Zuko can, Iroh can. Ozai considered as strongest is plain & simple wrong. It's bending, it's got nothing to do with how strong the physical body. Toph is a good example, small & blind, yet comparable to Bumi, in earth bending. In real fight, one flaw = lose.
A reason why this scene is so well done is because the ability to redirect lightning requires the person to be at peace with themselves, regardless of whether they choose to do good or bad. We saw Zuko already claim to be good before but this time by showing him redirect lightning and walk away from Ozai the writers were able to show he has walked away from being bad and is at peace with himself for doing so.
Azula could shoot lightning better than she could do her own hair and people try to make her out to be this victim. She was perfectly fine with killing her brother and the Avatar.
No it doesn't. The very reason Iroh suggests teaching Zuko redirection, is to cheer Zuko up because he can't generate his own lightning, due to inner turmoil. Lightning redirection doesn't require the inner peace that lightning generation does. "You are merely its humble guide".
@@kirancox6123 in the last episode iroh says “I don’t know if I could beat him” . Ozai is the strongest person in the avatar universe other than the avatar.
@@YellowCapeInvincible I dont think the power matters as much as stamina and just who these people are. Consider that Iroh is older and wiser and obviously is more experienced, but ozai is younger, thus less easy to tire, and a very aggressive fighter, unless iroh can muster the will to redirect the lightning at his brother, it ain't looking good for iroh at all.
It's badass that Ozai KNEW and felt then that he could fire bend again. Underground in his bunker. Azula only knew she could fire bend again after hearing the lightning and explosion during Zuko's encounter with his father.
@@stormmist3634, i don't think iroh can beat ozai , ozai went to far to become the powerful fire bender he is and i don't think any one except the avatar could beat him . Ozai's fire bending skills are great but that doesn't mean he's a good leader or a good father. Zuko saw it coming and was ready to defend himself. Of course he could have ended ozai himself but he knew that wasn't his fight
@@katerinakittycat3849 But commentator below meant that Ozai is a firebending prodigy. Which to be honest he is. Being a bending prodigy don't require one to be good leader or father.
I’ve always thought it was insanely scary how quick he generated lightning compared to what we had seen before. With Iroh and Azula, it takes them a few seconds of charging it up, but Ozai just shot a double beam almost instantly without hardly having to charge it.
We have never really seen Iroh cast Lightning at full speed though. He demonstrated it to Zuko, and he did so slowly intentionally so that Zuko could learn. Another time in Ba Sing Se when they were running from Azula in the Palace, although we didn't get to witness it personally, it still seemed like it was cast quickly as they were running from the Dai Li whom were not far behind.
It's only one bolt of lightning, and it's not really charging so much as separating. Iroh's explanation of lightning bending was that skilled firebenders can separate the yin and yang energy that surrounds them, creating imbalance. When they bring it back together, it creates lighting, which the bender can roughly direct. Iroh and Azula did it one hand at a time, but Ozai used both simultaneously before bringing his hands together.
I like the symbolism behind this scene. It shows how much Zuko had grown and it was thanks to Iroh's teachings, which included mental growth, but also techniques like redirecting lightning, which he now used to rebel against the very one, who lived in his own head ever since he was a kid.
Zuko also lets Ozai live, just like he told him he would. That moment of hesitation where Zuko stares him down while holding the lighting in place, he could have killed him right then and there, but he knows it wouldn’t end anything if he did. That’s why he placed the bolt at Ozai’s feet. This scene is just amazing all round.
The symbolism for Ozai as well, using lightning means he was killing his son in cold blood. No doubt or emotional attachment involved, just eliminating a liability to his plans. Plus a twin bolt, meaning he wanted to ensure Zuko would definitely die.
@@KaiserAfini Not only that, but it can also symbolize the way Zuko takes the abuse/control that his father always did to his family for years and throws it back at him. The boy not only finally changed for the better, he also finally sees his father is in the wrong(and boy wasn't he so wrong and evil) and for the first time since the last, he faces his father, and Ozai cannot do anything effective about it anymore because his son now can redirect anything he throws at him, either the smallest abusive behavior to the deadly lightning And its like: Characters like Ozai and Azula throw lightnings, and others like Iroh and Zuko will redirect them
i know right?? there was so much grandeur in a scene so short and instant yet other works of fiction could only dream of replicating even a fraction of what that scene can elicit from viewers.
And that's why Zuko didn't. He didn't have to. In doing that, that moment of defiance, he'd won and lived rent free in his father's head forever. No point in directing the bolt at him, it could never do worse than redirecting it at all did.
@@Zangamarth Even facing him like this and walking away with apathy and conviction is all that was needed while ignoring his insults without a reaction. That just helped to inflict a bigger blow to his ego like his mother did to him all those years ago.
Even though Ozai tried to kill Zuko, Zuko held steadfast that *Aang* will be the one to kill Ozai, not him. So even with that massive surge of lightning and adrenaline, he still redirected the lightning to Ozai's feet so he wouldn't kill him
Well Ozai May been able to block or counter his own attack, Zuko actually made right call making lightning strike near Ozai’s feet and he repelled by the kinetic energy of the explosion, making it hard to deflect
Definitely the right call, considering he hadn't considered the political ramifications of killing Ozai himself until Iroh pointed them out much later.
@@КонстантинПаршуков-о6бhe was shocked because he didn’t expect an airbender to redirect, only firebenders. Plus what he knew was that Aang was dead because of lightning so he presumed that aang can’t do nothing against lightning.
@@vincesaligue5963Ozai can't deflect lighting. This is why the uncle shows him this technique that he created himself. Claiming it was a move this other relatives did not know how to do. Zuku taught by his uncle how to use water tribe techniques
One of the most gratifying scenes I’ve ever seen in a show. Zuko's whole story was leading up to this moment, and him redirecting Ozai's lightning was the perfect end to the scene, because it’s an ability that he learned from Iroh, who is very much more like Zuko's real father, and he uses it in defiance of his toxic father, and breaks his dependence on him for self worth and honor. God this show is such peak fiction.
Don’t forget that when thinking in metaphors, lightning can be seen as a metaphor for abuse, and someone pointed out that the way to redirect it is to ‘stomach’ it before releasing it and to not let it get to your heart, or it’ll break you. Ozai is undoubtedly abusive towards Zuko (and probably towards Azula too but a different kind of abuse), and he scarred Zuko, physically and mentally and banished him. During his banishment, Iroh taught Zuko how to redirect the abuse, and then Zuko wanted to test shortly after learning it but Iroh didn’t want to shoot abuse at him, so Zuko goes up a mountain in a thunderstorm to try to find his own lightning. Zuko’s shouts say it all, the world has thrown everything it could at him, but now he can take the abuse and give it back, but it just leaves him stranded there with nothing to give or take, which makes him yell out his anguish and frustration. But the lesson wasn’t for nothing, as here, Zuko has decided his own destiny and confronts his abuser. His abuser tries to shoot lightning at him, but Zuko was finally given abuse to give back to him. And that makes this scene and Zuko’s story arc all the more satisfying. Later, Zuko takes abuse from Azula to protect Katara but this time it gets to him as it goes through his heart. Zuko probably was abuse in someway by Azula before this, but not to this severity, and she was raised by the same abusive father and neglectful mother, yet she had it in her to hurl such abuse at him and his ally, perhaps that’s why it broke him. But with Katara’s help, he ultimately survived and healed from it, while Azula is left to thrash around, screaming and crying because her mind and philosophy have all crumbled apart.
@@marielenapotts848 I wouldn’t think Ursa scolding Azula is exemplary of neglect, but it certainly wasn’t effective and if she’s taken to be unusually honest in The Beach it’s clear she didn’t get the message she was trying to convey.
If Zuko had even a modicum of rage left in him at this point in the story, I genuinely think he would've either straight up killed Ozai or wounded him significantly. I don't think even Ozai knows how to redirect lightning. The amount of restraint it took to flow the lightning into the ground before him is commendable for Zuko. Really does put into perspective how amazing of a character he is, especially his development. Bravo to those who wrote him.
As far as we know, lightning redirection was Iroh's technique developed by observing the water tribes, which only happened after his conquering years As a guess, even IF Iroh would have taught it to him, he wouldn't have wanted to learn something so contrary to fire bending
I personnally think that zuko was no match for ozai at any point in the serie. Thats why im thinking this scene is really well written. Any former zucko even holiday amber island 's zucko or pre fire dance ang's teacher's zucko would'nt have been able to beat ozai in this room. That's why the best thing to do here after he said he wanted to join the avatar was to run away. Zucko was determined to face his father but he didn't have to fight or kill. But it was wise to be prepared. I feel like Season 1 or 2 zuckos knowing light redirection would have stayed in the room after this lightning bolt and ultimately found death chasing after something they dont understand
That’s the thing, Ozai doesn’t know how to redirect lightning. When Aang was about redirect his bolt back at him during the final battle, you could see the pure shock and horror on his face. Because he knew in that moment Aang had the drop on him and he wasn’t going to be getting out of there alive if he redirected it at him.
@@miss_darkrai you are right , ozai cannot redirect lightning but he is stille the best at firebending . Did you meant " if zucko had rage and aimed at ozai to kill him " ? In that sense yeah i can see how zucko could have won or neutralized ozai with an intent to kill. On my side i was trying to make the case that , after redirecting not aimed ay ozai, if zucko tried to beat ozai or to fight him to prove something somehow , he would have lost. Ozai wouldn't try to do lightning he would just overwhelm his son with basic highly mastered firelord's firebent fire... 😅
If I could change one thing about this scene it’d be for the lightning to leave a burnt mark on Ozai’s face. Forever marked by his son, and the ultimate get back for Zuko.
Damn, that would've epic. Although, considering some of the lessons in the show, I don't think it would be 100% consistent. But Zuko still got his get back by doing something Ozai couldn't. So there's that
The fact that he only needed a sliver of the sun to create that powerful of a lightning attack is enough to show how powerful he is. Even Iroh, the most wisest and skilled firebender, wasn’t sure if he could take Ozai on.
Iroh would've smoked Ozai front to back. Iroh KNEW how to beat him without using force: Discipline. Something Ozai NEVER had at any point, just a mindless thirst for absolute power and control over those he desired to conquer & exploit
@@boybakala9677 Its not a point of power or skill, but of character, Iroh is still leagues beyond Ozai in terms of technique, discipline, and skill, but he knows he would most likely hesitate against a mad, and desperate Ozai Even Aang nearly fell to him because he found himself hesitating at that final moment before overcoming Ozai and taking away his bending
@@MasterRJMC no, when iroh said he is not sure if he can beat ozai he mean it literally, many people underestimate ozai but he is one if not, most powerfull firebender of his generation, do you think someone as wise and mature as iroh would hesitate to kill ozai when he have no choice, when a whole population is as stake, As for aang he hesitate because it is a air nomad principle not kill and most of all he is just a kid doing a job that even a normal adult cannot pull off
(From Smoke and Shadow Part 3) Ursa: You. I see you. After all these years, I finally see you, Ozai. You're just a small, small man trying with all your might to be big. Your heart is so small, you've no room for your son, or your daughter, or your brother... or even yourself.
Man, Mark Hamill’s voice acting is incredible (as is the entire cast). And he’s just one of several VAs in this show that have had major success in live action film or TV series in addition to their voice work.
@Shiggystardust Are they? I would recommend you listen again. I would also ask you to point to which Joker performance you are talking about. Because Hammil's portrayal of Joker has changed over the years. If you were to go and rewatch his Joker from the early episodes and compare it to Return of the Joker or Justice League, you would notice a difference. Go even further to the Arkham games, and there is a further difference. Also, his performance as Ozai is very different. Ozai is much more subdued, cold, and level. Joker was more giddy, and his voice fluctuated.
Anyone else notice Iroh and Azula need to charge and always fire Lightning with one hand directed behind them to balance the flow of energy while Ozai shoots lightning from BOTH hands in less than a second? He was definitely a force to be reckoned with
I love how this shows how Ozai is still stronger than Azula, Azula needs to do a lenghti set of poses to get to launch 1 lightning, while Ozai launche a Twin Lighningh almost instantly
Ozai was able to use continuous fire while flying quickly, make a concentrated concussive fire blast and even use a triple breath of fire. Plus his statues indicated that level of power even without the commet. Azula was more tactical and a better melee fighter, but Ozai outclassed her in firebending.
Mako is much much weaker than the benders of this time. It was confirmed by showrunners that lightning bending becoming so common was more of perfection of the simplicity and advancement in technology. Comparing Mako to Ozai/Azula is laughable. Aside from modern fighting techniques/styles (with Ozai/Azula being based on tradition), he would be blown away in terms of sheer might. @@AStrangeWindmill
For me Combustion Man was much more intimidating 💯 He literally bodied Toph, Aang, Katara, Suko and Sokka all at once 🤷🏻♂️. And it seemed he wasn't even using his full power Whilst Ozai had to wait for Sozin's comet ☄️ to fight Aang
This is scene has so much going on. First, we get to see what Ozai is really made of, and compare his lightning to Azula's. She takes a long time to prepare- his is a single movement. Second, that Zuko is able to deflect such an attack, and not use to kill, but to escape. Ozai was a dead man here if thats what Zuko wanted. third, we get the call back with "no, the avatar shall defeat you", a reference to Iroh saying the cycle of violence will continue if someone takes the throne from him. Zuko leaves Ozai to the avatar, even though at that moment he could have been firelord. Then lastly, the symbolism of the falling banner behind the flames. The fire nation is done, its destructive tendencies have come full circle, and its the only nation left for the fires to consume. If Ozai was a humble man, he would have realised at that moment that his plans for domination and genocide were doomed to failure. At his strongest, he couldnt kill a child who refused to fight back.
Im glad im not the only one who noticed that this was the first "power scaling" moment to show Ozai in combat, after 3 seasons of only hearing stories about him. The buildup to this scene was insanely well down, like Thanos level buildup in avengers. What i am disappointed in tho, is that in the live action trailer that came out yesterday, they already shown Ozai, and already shown him in battle (fighting Zuko) which kinda diminishes this future scene where he casts lightning at Zuko. I would like them to hide Ozai in the live action for like 1.5 season, before even showing his face.
Zuko redirecting his father's lightning will never not be awesome! The visuals alone are enough for you to go "Whoah!" But after seeing Zuko's journey, it is absolutely astonishing how far this character has come by this point! Zuko is probably my favorite character in tv history. If not, at least my favorite villain redemption of all time! It was written so well, and the voice actor brings it to life, as well as the other voice actors selling it, too.
i dont think the "size" of the sun matters, it just needed to come out for a second to "activate" their abilities. But most impressive is that he pulled two different lightnings with two hands, and directed both of them at Zuko, to this time not scar him, but to kill him for sure, not expecting the fact that Iroh tought him how to redirect it, which allmost killed Ozai if Zuku wanted. Pretty crazy that the lightnings actually pushed Zuko back like 20 feet... just pure force..
@@EternalKvK I mean firebenders draw power from the sun, like how waterbenders draw power from the moon, and moonlight amt definitely does matter for waterbenders (see: blood bending) so I don't think it's that much of a stretch to say the amt of sunlight matters for firebenders too
@@m4rcyonstation93yeah not sure if its confirmed anywhere but if the amount didnt matter then waterbenders wouldnt get stronger with the full moon then again at the end of the day its all spiritualism/symbolism like technically the moment the sun peaks out from an eclipse its actually the brightest
Ozai was ready to kill Zuko with lightning. Iroh taught Zuko how to redirect lightning, yet still refused to shoot lightning at him knowing how dangerous it is. Who's the better father figure?
I like how this is symbolic of Zuko growing past his father’s abuse. Ozai strikes Zuko with the intent of hurting him, and instead of Zuko internalizing it and allowing it to change who he is, he redirects it and spits it back into Ozai’s face. The lightning is the same way; Ozai thinks Zuko won’t be able to fight back (or he thinks Zuko is still too soft to fight back) and strikes to kill, but Zuko redirects it and gives Ozai the same treatment, only, he doesn’t try to kill Ozai because he’s not like Ozai at all.
You know, Zuko had two opportunities to kill Ozai here. First, when he had his swords drawn and Ozai was powerless, and second when he could have just aimed that redirected lightning up a couple feet.
First one is not gonna be so easy. Even with out his power he ain't gonna be Zuko's pin cushion. Second one most definitely yes. If it weren't for his honor Ozai would have been injured/killed due to element of surprise.
My only regret is that Zuko did not inflict a similar mark upon Ozai’s face; if for no other reason that to provide some poetic irony for the damages that Ozai visited upon his own son. …but, perhaps that’s the message: Ozai’s method was that power was absolute; and that fear & might allowed the powerful to do whatever they pleased…and the end result was near irreversible damage to the world; a scar. But Zuko’s denial of that attack…of that philosophy…left no such mark; a representation that while he’s been injured by his father, he had not been defeated by him, nor had he succumbed to his ideology. I LOVE this show; and these characters. They are timeless.
I love how Ozai is so infuriated that Zuko could redirect his lightning and probably insanely frustrated that Iroh is the one who taught him the technique which he later passes unto Aang 😂 Had Zuko, and Aang not been so merciful he would've been dead in an instant despite all his power
I do like how this showcases Ozai’s power. Tiniest ray of sunshine and he administered two shots of lightning within a second. When you watch Azula do it, it’s a whole dog and pony show lol.
I love that Zuko can't lightning bend, only redirect it. Lighting can be seen as the evil or the abuse. Ozai and Azula use it freely. Iroh used to be bad but he turned his life around. He created a way of letting go of his darkness, lighting redirecting, only using it as defence. And Zuko is the one who in took all his abuse and redirected it to Ozai, stopping himself from being his father. Ps: I don't know if it makes sense, it sounded way better in my head.
People always talking about Ozai sensing the eclipse ending but Zuko himself was also completely ready for it,you can see it in the frames that he was already in stance to redirect it before it actually happens. He sensed it too.
Zuko constantly proves that he’s the more honorable man throughout the series, and here we get to see that honor through his strength and skill. He totally could’ve blasted Ozai into oblivion, but he doesn’t want that to be his destiny. He believes that only Aang should bring the Fire Lord to heel, that will truly bring peace to the world. He grew very wise in his youth, thanks in most part to Uncle Iroh.
What amazed me is that Zuko never practiced this technique, yet he performed it flawlessly (and not in stance) against one of the world's most well-known lightning generating firebenders.
Thanks to iroh's teaching and zuko finally made peace with himself not only he ended his relationship with his dad but was able to redirect lighting he did it on his first try and against his dad no less
It never hit me that the first time Ozzai fought and some struck back was here. The first time we saw him, it was when he attacked Zuko after Zuko refused to fight back. Here, he attacks and Zuko redirects. Powerful storytelling starting all the way back in the Storm episode.
“The Fire Chakra is located in the stomach. It deals with willpower, and is blocked by shame.” “You must let the lightning pass through your stomach, the sea of chi.” In this moment, Zuko opened his Fire Chakra.
Ozai's face after being bested by his son is very similar to Azula's own angry face. Their hatred for Zuko is so strong they are willing to kill him without a second thought despite him being family.
This scene is so good, omfg. Also when aang does it in the final battle, the look on ozai's face when he realizes that only zuko could have taught him to do that. So good
I love that people are talking about the emotional growth of Zuko but let’s look at his actual growth! My boy physically reacted fast enough to redirect the lightning as it was coming at him. Now that is insane.
Palpatine would scoff and call Ozai an amateur, then kill him to show him how it's done. Palpatine is far more diabolical and cunning than Ozai could ever dream of being. He'd have Ozai kneeling at his feet in a millisecond.

Easily one of the most badass moments of the show, to me this moment proved that Zuko literally could have taken down Ozai himself, he just knew it was Aang's job. Like, whats Ozai gonna do when he redirects all his lightning back into his face
One thing I never see mentioned about this scene is that this is Zuko's first time redirecting lightning. He only practiced it in theory before, this was his first time actually doing it. He had that shit locked and was able to react instantly. No fear, only determination and confidence. Aang cried out in pain and almost fainted when redirecting Ozai's lightning (even though he's a waterbender and should have a natural affinity for the technique), so it's obviously not something that's easy on the body, but Zuko takes it like it's nothing.
This was the moment all us of were waiting for....Zuko finally confessing not just to his father but finally be true to himself and that ultimate release kept his focus and mind clear to redirect his fathers insane lightning with a sliver of the sun coming back. Truly a magnificent & terrifying scene with such a huge impact for the rest of the series.
I know you're trying to make a tfs reference, but unlike Vegeta who still cares about his family despite all the shit he does, Ozai doesn't give a fuck at all. He genuinely wanted to kill Zuko here, and he wouldn't feel any pride after Zuko bested him, he would only feel anger and humiliation.
ever notice how the transition from Ozai's face to the eclipse covers Ozai's left eye much like Zuko's scar, all while he talks about a far worse punishment. connection between Ozai having no remorse for scaring Zuko for a minor mistake as a child to what a punishment for treason would be.
Calls Zuko a coward, almost gets blown up* Like bro you’re lucky Zuko isn’t like azula or he would’ve cut you down, even if your guards were still there
Azula gets her cunning side from his father. Ozai knew exactly what button to press to make Zuko stay so he would get the chance of killing him. Zuko was stupid enough to take the bait.
The metaphor behind this scene just sweetens it all the more. Ozai's lightning can be viewed as his toxicicity in raising Zuko. Zuko growing up was a target of that toxicity, a lightning rod if you will. Him redirecting that lightning back at Ozai was him finally breaking free of that toxic relationship. He's not going to just stand there and take it anymore, he's going to deflect it so he doesn't absorb it and damage himself again. Just beautiful.
Not only did he cast duel handed lighting. Something we’ve never seen before. Not only did he cast it faster than any bender we’ve seen before(maybe. Iroh might have been just as fast to blast down a wall). But he did it while only able to use a fraction of his ability
Hmm Ozai probably didn't even know lightning could be redirected, he must've been Hella surprised here. Also, it just looks So good when Zoku's pushed back by the attack, Amazing!!!
Shame we never got a Dragon of the West vs Ozai all out duel. The way they depicted Ozai and Iroh throughout the series making it seem like one could best the other is awesome. Since Ozai was the big bad the writers would have Ozai win most likely.
I feel it's kinda understated how much this sticks with Ozai, since in the final fight even though Aang spares him and gets SUPER weakened as a result Ozai doesn't dare fire even a single further bolt once he knows Aang can do it so he'd likely have never dared take another shot at Zuko either. .
Unlike Aang, Zuko would have straight up killed Ozai if it came down to it. The only reason Zuko didn’t kill him in this scene was because it was better politically for the Avatar to take down Ozai than an usurping prince
@@TheJadedJames Very true, I just find it super telling how much this scared him that he's spamming Lightning prior to Aang redirecting it but even with the damage that causes to Aang... he doesn't use it again.

And to generate lightning you must be at peace. Ozai was at peace killing his own son

@@Samsudin-wi5ll Makao just points to do lightning he doesn't need to charge it at all. And he's hardly a prodigy just an above average firebender.
It is implied by the basingse runaway that Iroh have about that very same speed of lighning cast.
Iroh definitely did it with similar speeds escaping the Dai Li in Ba Sing Se.

@@SteveRogers0768 wow I never noticed he aimed at his feet, good catch

And that's why Zuko didn't. He didn't have to. In doing that, that moment of defiance, he'd won and lived rent free in his father's head forever. No point in directing the bolt at him, it could never do worse than redirecting it at all did.

Ironic.

As far as we know, lightning redirection was Iroh's technique developed by observing the water tribes, which only happened after his conquering years
As a guess, even IF Iroh would have taught it to him, he wouldn't have wanted to learn something so contrary to fire bending

Zuko: *accidentally shocks Ozai killing him after saying it’s the avatar’s job*
Zuko: Uhhh. World peace now
This is scene has so much going on.

The visuals alone are enough for you to go "Whoah!" Can we acknowledge how little sun ozai needed to create lighting quickly and the same size as azulas during the commit
i dont think the "size" of the sun matters, it just needed to come out for a second to "activate" their abilities.

Ozai was ready to kill Zuko with lightning. Iroh taught Zuko how to redirect lightning, yet still refused to shoot lightning at him knowing how dangerous it is. Who's the better father figure?
Zuko: "Remember the scar you gave me? This is PAYBACK!"
Except Zuko scarred his ego.
Yea I think if he never banished zuko the show would've been completely different
Zuko is his mother's son who raised by iroh. ❤
It's probably a very difficult thing to kill someone, let alone family. Even if that family is horrible.
Gotta appreciate my boy Zuko for how he redirected it so well being caught by surprise
Zuko wasn't surprised at all, he saw this coming - he knew his father might do this, it was just a matter of knowing when to get in the proper stance
The fact that he could've just used conventional firebending to overhelming his son and knock him out and put him in jail instead of killing him
I love how Ozai is so infuriated that Zuko could redirect his lightning and probably insanely frustrated that Iroh is the one who taught him the technique which he later passes unto Aang 😂 Had Zuko, and Aang not been so merciful he would've been dead in an instant despite all his power
Zuko literally had every right to kill him right then and there, but still restrained himself cause he knows it's not his destiny to do so
I do like how this showcases Ozai’s power. Tiniest ray of sunshine and he administered two shots of lightning within a second. When you watch Azula do it, it’s a whole dog and pony show lol.
Thank goodness Iroh taught Zuko how to redirect lightning, otherwise he’d be dead.
You either die as Luke Skywalker, or you live long enough to see yourself become emperor Palpatine.
This moment was so satisfying to watch. Zuko's redemption ark is the shit, which is like half the show honestly
People always talking about Ozai sensing the eclipse ending but Zuko himself was also completely ready for it,you can see it in the frames that he was already in stance to redirect it before it actually happens.
He sensed it too.
This shows the power of a real father. Uncle Iroh taught him well.
Ozai seeing the son he hates besting him by doing an "impossible" technique and not killing him for mercy most have caused an impact.
No matter how many times i rewatch this show this my favorite moment
I know people love to hype this up but this was actually very sad
Ozai literally was ready to end his own son without even much thought
Ozai used two hands and generated lightning at Zuko.
It deals with willpower, and is blocked by shame.”
“You must let the lightning pass through your stomach, the sea of chi.”
In this moment, Zuko opened his Fire Chakra.
To me, this was Zuko's definitive victory over Ozai. He didn't need to fight him after this. Zuko could've easily killed him right there.
Palpatine: “It’s treason then.”
The fact that Zuko managed to redirect Ozai's twin lightning bolt is insane in its own right.
Palpatine would be proud of this.
Palpatine would scoff and call Ozai an amateur, then kill him to show him how it's done. Palpatine is far more diabolical and cunning than Ozai could ever dream of being. He'd have Ozai kneeling at his feet in a millisecond.
@@elmermedina1713 there is a big difference ozai can shoot lightning bolts is fast and a strong fire bender palpatine can beat him tought with the force but its stupid to compare star wars to avatar 🤦🏻
Just saying if they ever met I doubt Palpatine would be impressed he's too arrogant plus he'd see Ozai as a potential threat not an apprentice as he doesn't have the Force
@@elmermedina1713he was saying that because ozai’s VA is Mark Hamill AKA Luke Skywalker, he is the one shooting lightning out of his fingers now hahaha
@@elmermedina1713Ozai with the help of his father, already defeated Palpatine
Zuko and Iroh are probably the onky people who could ever hope to take a double lightning blast from Ozai off guard and live to tell the tale.
i always think that an enraged iroh will tear ozai apart
Easily one of the most badass moments of the show, to me this moment proved that Zuko literally could have taken down Ozai himself, he just knew it was Aang's job. Like, whats Ozai gonna do when he redirects all his lightning back into his face
Not use lightning and use his far superior fire bending?
So long has passed and yet this scene still hits extremely hard. Avatar is simply an unforgettable gem of a series.
We need to also take a moment to realize that Zuko could’ve killed Ozai atm. Yet, purposefully aimed it at his feet. Lol
Lightning bending is the most unrealistic bending of all... But it still looks bad ass, and that makes it my favorite in all of the avatar series.
Yet all the others are good?
This was the moment all us of were waiting for....Zuko finally confessing not just to his father but finally be true to himself and that ultimate release kept his focus and mind clear to redirect his fathers insane lightning with a sliver of the sun coming back. Truly a magnificent & terrifying scene with such a huge impact for the rest of the series.
I love that he's so powerful with only a sliver of sunlight peaking out from the eclipse.
Ozai’s lighting is just….pure white. It’s not even blue. It’s literally white. He was straight up going to burn his son to a crisp
Ozai really messed around and almost lost his life in this moment.
Ozai: huh, this is a new feeling. Pride in Zuko. Unfortunately its overshadowed by all this UNYIELDING RAGE!
Tfs
I know you're trying to make a tfs reference, but unlike Vegeta who still cares about his family despite all the shit he does, Ozai doesn't give a fuck at all. He genuinely wanted to kill Zuko here, and he wouldn't feel any pride after Zuko bested him, he would only feel anger and humiliation.
I love that all the element bending techniques have other categories like metal, lava, lightning, blood, and healing abilities
ever notice how the transition from Ozai's face to the eclipse covers Ozai's left eye much like Zuko's scar, all while he talks about a far worse punishment. connection between Ozai having no remorse for scaring Zuko for a minor mistake as a child to what a punishment for treason would be.
Zuko redirecting lighting was awesome, but him redirecting lighting back to his evil father was badass.
Calls Zuko a coward, almost gets blown up*
Like bro you’re lucky Zuko isn’t like azula or he would’ve cut you down, even if your guards were still there
Azula gets her cunning side from his father. Ozai knew exactly what button to press to make Zuko stay so he would get the chance of killing him. Zuko was stupid enough to take the bait.
Remember back in book 2 when Zuko was yelling at the universe to test him again? This is the universe testing him and Zuko giving it back.
Can we appreciate that Zuko directed the lightning towards him, but not at him.
It seems that Luke Skywalker learned this from Palpatine 😎
Ozai: what are you doing!!!
Zuko: something I should have done a long time ago standing up to you!!!!!
Shame we never got a Dragon of the West vs Ozai all out duel. The way they depicted Ozai and Iroh throughout the series making it seem like one could best the other is awesome. Since Ozai was the big bad the writers would have Ozai win most likely.
Zuko finally got his payback on Ozai.
That double instantaneous lighting has got to be the most skilled move in the show. Anyone else would have died by that
