Concur with a lot of this. It's hard to beat Maker's 46 - very under appreciated and I hope it stays that way so I can always find it at a good price. It's the bourbon I gift to people just getting into whiskey. Makers 46 Cask Strength is to die for. I just got a bottle of Weller's 12 and am surprised that I don't like it as much as Antique 107
I don't agree with all your assessments (ex. Heaven Hill 7 year bib) but I do find woodford reserve straight wheat a very suitable replacement for weller special reserve. Thanks for the valued opinions.
I stopped drinking whiskey for about a year due to keto then saw a single shot bottle of 4roses small batch select and was so good...Then after researching all of the various makers mark (private, 46 etc) seems like the cask strength came up on top on various blind tasting and just picked up a bottle and it is surprisingly good... surprisingly good like the 4Roses select... I would be happy if a Pappy's 15 tasted like this...
I can find good flavor in any bourbon. Top shelf, or bottom . Rye ,wheat, love them all ! But my dear and favorite, was always - 46 ! It's not as rich and deep in the body , but I don't know any bourbon, that are more flavorful and reacher, than a simple extract dark cup of black brewed coffee , either. Lol . I am working through a bottle of Larceny now...and I will purchase another bottle as soon as I am near empty. I had a pour of Weller 12 for $8, at Bar 1919 in San Antonio, TX. It was good, but I won't be hunting bottles of Weller 12 as long as there is Larceny on the shelves. By the way, if you are traveling to San Antonio, you definitely owe it to yourself to stop in Bar 1919 and try a whiskey or two...or 600!

I found a Weller 12 for $30 bucks, and I think that's exactly what it is worth. So far Makers 46 and Makers Cask have kept their punches equal with their Weller counterparts for me. I'd love to see a comparison between the Makers Cask and the 107.

Maker’s gets too much hate in the community. 46 is excellent, cask strength is solid and the standard bottle makes a fine cocktail, especially a julep. Haven’t had the Private Select or RC6 yet, but I hear good things on both
Austin Hubbard get it. I work in a very high end liqour store catered to bourbon we only got two cases. Only twenty cases where given out from the distributer on our side of SC
great review.. shows that Makers Mark 46 is really that good.. and I still enjoy the basic MM. Weller are WAY OVERRATED HYPED and Woodford is a bit over priced. even by 2021.
$38 for the Woodford wheat seems pretty fair, in fact it’s the same price as everything else is their lineup and I would take it over the standard Kentucky bourbon and the malt any day. The makers 46 is $3 more where I’m at and MUCH more available though.
Probably Buffalo Trace but if you can't find eagle rare theres a good chance you aren't seeing that either. The distillery puts out eagle rare in the gift shop if you're near there.

Update... in 2021 the Weller Wheat Special Reserve 90% proof is a UNICORN and goes for obscene prices.. not 24$ so there is that fantasy.. as this review is badly dated. just fyi
Lol, we are well aware but they drink very similar and fit similar price ranges and proofs at retail. The details are less important than the actual drinking experience itself.
They;re all good, but 46 and woodford being highly available for realistic prices make them even harder to beat.

I would pay upwards of 40 for W12, but its either MSRP at specs/total wine or 200 plus bucks secondary market down here in Houston lol

Here’s the thing...I love a fully blown experience.
If I am not mistaken the Woodford is actually a wheat whiskey (less than 51% corn)and not a wheated bourbon.
Correct, 52% wheat, 20% malt, 20% corn, 8% rye is the bill.
I have 3 of the 4 of these...minus the Weller 12. Can't find that or 107 anywhere here. I ranked 1) Woodford Wheat 2) Maker's 46 3) Special Reserve

Out of the Weller line up 107 has always been my jam. I think even in our weller war I put 12 low in that line up. Over all it's just okay whiskey.

What’s the closest bourbon to eagle rare? For those of us that can’t get our hands on eagle rare.

Weller 12 is for the taters who have no idea what good whiskey tastes like. For real it's horrible, especially considering the secondary prices.
It might be the worst deal in whiskey history based on secondary value.
