US-75 Dallas, TX | Central Expressway

- US-75 is one of the most significant freeways in the Dallas-Fort Worth Area. This video travels it from northern Collin County to Dallas' city center.

Having family-in-law in the area, I was able to vacation out there and drive highway 75 a lot!... It's the best highway I've ever driven on! The views of the architecture are out of this world! I love Texas!
75 Central is probably my favorite highway to drive around DFW, even with traffic. 635 and 114 are nice too.
Wow, what a stretch of highway! I've been to the DFW Metro Area one time in Summer 2015, but unfortunately I did not have the pleasure of getting to be on US 75. Thanks for the ride!
There's plenty of interesting roads (and plenty of not-so-interesting roads) here for sure, but 75 is perhaps the cream of the crop, particularly within Dallas proper. I decided to give this some special treatment, because I am proud to call it my "home" freeway. thanks for watching, and I hope you can come back here at some point!
yes, me too! I have a burning regret of not being able to film any roads I did go on when I did go because of storage problems, but hopefully I can return and do just that as well.
YES! I live in McKinney, Texas and I have been patiently waiting for 3 years now for someone to film our part of US 75. I feel like 75 from McKinney through Richardson isn't given as much respect as it should, especially now that the construction in McKinney and Allen is finished.
Also not to be picky but the population sign you put for McKinney is old, the population is about 165,000 now

US-75 near the Dallas's downtown core is definitely one of my favorite roads i've ever been on. Weird to me how there is extensive sprawl along US-75 to the north like Plano and McKinney but then it seems like wasteland along I-45 south of the city. Anyways great video as always!
Wesley Tran ..That will be changing in coming years. As someone who keeps up on architecture forums I can tell you the development will be spreading to the southside of Dallas.
Yeah I've expressed this before. I kind of resent how I-45 is basically distribution centers and dumps for 10 miles until you hit downtown Dallas, but in Houston, it's 8 lanes with highmast lighting for like 50 miles with endless development surrounded by awesome pine trees. Really makes Dallas look trashy... at least until I-45 ends.
As expected since Houston is more consistently dense throughout its metro area while DFW has pockets of dense populations. Ultimately that means there will be more consistent development around Houston's freeways. As you can see in Dallas's case I-30 between Dallas and Fort Worth doesn't have much urban development and by your I-35E South video neither does that either. For those reasons I think Houston has the superior freeways throughout the metro while I think Dallas has superior downtown freeways.
InterstateJD also, 45 runs above the Trinity River floodplain/watershed in South Dallas, so there can't be much development along that stretch between I-20 and Downtown Dallas
Update: Massive proposal by KDC which includes a 1121ft tall supertall on the southside of downtown. It'd called the Smart District. If Amazon chooses Dallas for HQ2 it will happen and it could happen even if they don't. www.bizjournals.com/dallas/gallery/422225

20 years is a lot of changes, especially in a metro like this. A good deal of US-75 featured in this video looked very different at that time. Certainly gives some perspective. Thanks for watching!
If you haven't been here in 20 years, you will probably barely recognize it anymore. Downtown has grown to the north, LBJ freeway on the north side has been redone and it's enormous, with even more high rise office buildings up there. Driving down Central from the North is starting to look like Chicago or something, it's crazy there are so many high rise buildings continuing to be built along Central.

Uptown has grown quickly, you can barley see the American Airlines center and there are 2 new bridges each featuring massive mix masters

Was surprised to hear that SPUIs were such a relatively new concept in Texas, we've had them in Alberta since the eighties.
That said, one of the first SPUI-like interchanges may have been built in Texas in 1962, in Fort Worth, at the intersection of Beach Street and East Lancaster.

Greeting from the Galatyn/Campbell Road exit! I moved to Dallas in 1984 and US 75 has been part of my life ever since. You must have filmed this on a Sunday morning for traffic to be so light! My Dad was very fascinated by the High Five whenever he came to visit.
those interchanges are really next level infrastructure! I'm currently in Spain, their cities have very extensive freeway systems (look Madrid up in Google Maps), but they generally don't have very impressive interchanges like Texas.
Huh. Looking at Madrid, it's confounding as to how densely packed the freeways are. I put the "outer" ring into Mapfrappe and it looks to be about the same radius as I-635, and fits quite comfortably into the PGBT footprint. Really speaks wonders about their density. Thanks for watching!

@@InterstateJD I did it all last october! I rented a car here and drived all the day down (4 days) to San Marcos, where I stayed and back home along the east coast (5 days). Visiting Texas was much nicer than I thought. It looked clean, rich, modern, safe and most important, Texans are the nicest people I ever had in all of USA to date (roads too!), I've also had to honour to meet ScrewdUPClickV2 in person twice. I only stayed there 1 week, so I've lacked the time to visit everything, so I mostly focused myself on DFW, Austin, Corpus Christi, San Antonio and the Hill country...tho on my way back, I went through Houston. I discovered so much down there in a very short period of time and I fell in love with In-N-Out Burgers lol. I am taking a long break from making videos now, but I've already put one from TX online. Oh and I am still sorry for the disagreement between you and me, I think it has no reason to be.

InterstateJD I'll be passing through Oklahoma city on my to Dallas, and after watching your video, I'll make another detour and head to Sherman and film us 75 south to downtown Dallas and conclude after crossing the Margaret hunt hill bridge
Good call. I-35 between Denton and the Red River is some of the worst-designed rural Interstate in Texas, and as I've stated before, Stemmons is a perpetual construction hell rn. Never taken 82 across, but that should be the antithesis of exciting.
I might be heading back to Big D as soon as a week. Or maybe by early spring. Can't wait. I've actually gotten to the point where I miss it. I Can't believe I'm saying that. But who knows.

I did not realize you were using a different camera at first. The footage looks very nice and seems to be more stable than the CX230. How do you like it?
Two limitations because it's a (very good) point and shoot: it can overheat rapidly, and footage automatically stops recording after 30 mins. Other than that, it takes some high-quality photos, and stellar video to boot! I've had this camera for over a year now though, and my first vid I posted of it was I-275 in Tampa, basically a year ago to this day. (I rotated CX230 California footage and stuff from this beast in that time... for some reason, the CX230 was much less stable on that trip than in all of my other use cases). All in all, fantastic, and I am very happy to be able to use it. Thanks for watching!

US-75 is like the most creative freeways in my life and I think the state of Texas would have kept I-45 running with US-75 and it can cross Oklahoma with US-75 but mainly that can lead to an major expansion project for the state of Oklahoma.
But I guess that means I-45 may have 400 miles total.

@@katherineg9396 Yeah, I know that this is Time Lapse Speed. Seems like Most of you Texans Normally Drive like +10mph over the Speed Limit! Which is Insane, but Cool.
Texas has quick drivers but Cali has quicker drivers still. Gotta be going 90 mph (abt 150kph) to even be in the normal flow of traffic in rural areas though the speed limit is 70 / 110

speed limits are getting more inconsistent these days, I-45 is 65 going north to downtown Dallas, then where I-45 ends and US 75 begins ( a non interstate ) it goes up to 70. I think US 75 should have remained at 60.

Think Oklahoma has the funds, resources, or the damns to give to upgrade the rest of the route between there & either Tulsa or I-44 near Joplin???
I can definitely imagine a need for that since Texas could most likely be the destination for many that make the drive along I-44 from where I live...

Yeah, if Oklahoma would get US-69 between Colbert and Big Cabin to freeway standards, that would be great. Even the parts that are already freeway kind of suck. Iirc, more truck traffic exists along US-69 than along I-35 to the west, and that's rather unfortunate. Guess those towns really need that speed trap revenue.
Though I suppose when I-57 is extended to Little Rock it would probably be better to take that from Dallas to St Louis than I-44. After all, that will basically be I-30 continued.
InterstateJD since Arkansas, Missouri & Illinois have made it a longer term intention to expand every last mile of U.S. 67 from Little Rock to at least Galesburg, IL (near the IL/IA Quad Cities), maybe they should use the I-53 designation!
Longer term needs aside, the I-53 number would probably fit best solely based on AATHSO numbering standards!
they have? I've only seen plans for I-57 from Sikeston to Little rock via poplar bluff and points southwest. Also not sure why SW Illinois would need another interstate but I'm not familiar with that area.

But maybe in your next videos I suppose you can visit NC one day plus try to look up Asheville in Google maps also get a ride on I-240 it's only a 9 mile ride from I-40/I-26 interchange but I-26 flows with I-240 for 4 miles. in the end of I-240 It changes to I-40 US-74A (for alternate) interchange but I will like you also visit Charlotte NC It's not the capital of NC but it's the largest city in the state also Charlotte is home to the largest and total beltway in the state (I-485) but I Hope you get to visit NC one day.😉

Depends on circumstances imo. The only type of locale where I feel they're imperative are lower-density suburbs where a lack of frontage roads won't change the landscape but will make the area harder to navigate. What every state needs, is Texas U-turns at every diamond interchange :)
