The Worth County tornado in 1947 was a 'high end F4 killer. These locals are farm people and very weather savvy so that high a death toll shows how brutal the storm was.
Sheridan original was across the river near Winemillers Mill as you spoke about in your previous video and was called defiance..... then moved to current location and was named after a general I believe there is a cool mural in the old bank that show this.....
I was born and raised in Worth. I had some Aunts and Uncles on my Mother's side that also lived in Worth. My Grandfather on my Mother's side ran the Blacksmith shop. Don't know if the old shop still stands today or not
Sheridan is my hometown. My relative actually helped build the bandstand that you were sitting in several years ago. My great grandfather and great uncle worked the railroad. That town has my heart.
my daddy is buried in a shallow unmarked grave in bethel cemetry, he had a metal plate in his head and every 6 yrs we take a metal detector out there to pay our respects
The Google Maps feature is awesome, must have taken a lot of work to put that together. Another interesting video, thanks for posting. You sure see some cool places!
My dad grew up on a farm near Sheridan. My entire family on his side went to the Sheridan a school and are buried in the Sheridan Cemetery. Grandma’s family too was from Worth County and are all buried in the Isadora Cemetery. Sheridan is named after CW General Sheridan. The Sheridan School closing was a sad day for that community and really did kill off the community.
8:49. Truman E. Alderson was my uncle who I never met, who died serving in the Army in North Africa during WW2. This is the first time that I've seen this monument. Thank you.
That Sheridan is a very neat small town the reserve with tables is well kept. I checked it out on Google earth and could follow very closely the places you talked about in the town.
Hey, I used to play on those "death go rounds" 😂they were lots of fun. I'm not sure how close you are to the Ozarks. My mom was raised there, my aunt, 86 yrs old, think she'll make 100, way she's going, lives in a small town near Branston, MO. Loved the Border Collie. Of course, all the video. Thank you for the over hour long video. Your videos are relaxing.
It was nice the four legged welcoming committee put in a appearance. Was that you driving down the road with the drone in hot pursuit? That seems like a neat trick
Hey Coach.Worth's O.K. I like that bandstand, I'd gig there. That long school is cool. That upright piano is the tallest I've ever seen.Prohibition was a bad idea. That playground ride has some stabilization issues, I'd give it a 5.4.From the sky, that place is sparkling clean. As the Dead said, 'Keep on trucking'
Excellent series as usual. I have yet to really explore that part of my state. Nothing takes me there so it's nice having the Wise give me some preview of that area. I know you've hit part of Southwest Missouri. Any plans to hit more? I know you've been in Stone County and Galena. Christian County might interest you.
@@TravelwithaWiseguy Christian County is just north of Stone as I am sure you know. I live in and grew up in Nixa. It's turned into a suburb of the small city of Springfield so it's probably grown too much given your particular content in your vids. It would have been more down your alley 30+ years ago. However, Highlandville to the south, Hurley to the southwest, Sparta and Oldfield to the east, and Clever (growing rapidly though) and Billings to the east. Those are more your preferences along with quite a bit of others here and there. Riverdale or what's left of it is just south of Nixa.
I would think they mostly go to Grant City. There are also a couple other towns within 30 miles or so. It’s a small county so places aren’t too far from each other.
Good golly John, I forgot to leave a comment but an ad came up and I lost it and then I got busy and just now have a chance to comment. This sure was an interesting trip but is Worth County the only county with the least population? Seems Kansas has more out in the western part of the state. None the less this was a beautiful trip and the dog was sooo adorable. I love dogs and live with two, my brother's and mine. Where are we going Sunday? A Sunday drive would be nice. Oh well it must be a surprise. Happy trails to you and God bless.
Thanks! Worth County is the least populated in Missouri. Plenty of others with small populations but this is the smallest. Off to a totally new state Sunday 😊
@@TravelwithaWiseguy The back section was once a different rural school, the Willhite school, that stood a couple miles east and a bit north of Oxford. When they consolidated the rural schools in 1952, it was added to the north side of the Oxford school. Another area school, the Concord school was auctioned off, and was moved to Oxford and turned into a residence. It is on the east side of the road, the house you show at 5:04 in your video. Three old schools shown in about five seconds of video!
I sure would like to to know more about Lincoln. Most of those towns shown on the black slide at the end only lasted a few years, at most a decade, but Lincoln lasted for more than a century (unless 1863-1965 was a typo). I wonder what its downfall was after such a long ride.
Good catch. After I uploaded the video I realized it was a TYPO. Should’ve said 1863-1865. Unfortunately it’s hard to edit something like that after it goes live.
The coach is the best to ride along with! Just as I said during the first video for this county, this is such a pretty area. I would think living here would be a calming experience, having Mother Nature all around you.
Thank you Sir..for taking the time to visit our little county.
My pleasure! Loved it!

8:29 In my recent travels, I've noticed the USPS implementing this type of modular for a post office. Makes sense to me.
Interesting 🤔
As a Missouri resident I truly enjoyed this two part series
I had a lot of fun doing it!
Loved the video. So heartwarming and sad all in one. 😊
Thank you so much!
Very nicely done. I spent a lot of time in Worth and Harrison counties growing up in the 60s and 70s. Diffidently brought back a few memories.
Thank you!
I'm related to most of Worth....lol. The Gazebo in the middle of the road was taken out by a tornado in 47 then rebuilt it in 99.
Nice!
I went to that high school the last year it was open. The last graduating class was 3. I hated living there now all I want is to back.
Wow that must’ve been interesting!

That was a interesting fire truck...
I thought so too

Very cool 😎
I'll definitely be re-watching this series - loved all the old buildings, and the dog - what a honey!! ❤🐶

I about spit out my coffee on this one. Where are you performing stand-up comedy so I can come support 😂
john wise! really!?
we go every 6 yrs cause there were 6 seats on the death go round that killed him............( thats a full rotation)
@@gazooberful Yes of course! Haha
This one had the coolest cemeteries. Thanks for sharing. Loved the dog at the end
Thanks! Yes and very well taken care of!
You make Worth county look good. Thank you
So nice of you!
I really appreciate the park bench for "Jeff". Thank you Sharon. There's a good story there..........

This is awesome I love exploring rural MO. I may head up that way!
Well “Worth” it 😊
Great video Coach. See you found a friendly doggie. That itself makes a visit worthwhile. Looking forward to the next one!
That dog was great! He followed me down the road 😊

Thanks, you too!
Another cool video, I knew a man from Missouri, he called it Misery. I always believed he was from Kansas ..
Haha I’ve heard that a few times as well 😊
Thanks Coach for another great video. 😀👍

Thanks! Some unique things in this one! You're right about the stabilization, but I liked how it was all wood :)
I loved Worth County. That Bethel cemetery is one of the creepiest signs I’ve seen. 😮
Agreed 💯

Worth would if been larger than grant city if it hadn't gotten blown away. Very dramatic tornado. The teacher saved the school children that day.
Wow 😮
I live south of Wichita in Oxford! I knew of Oxford Mississippi but didn’t know of Missouri town

The back section of the Oxford school was probably the teacher's lounge. Where they partied like it was 1899.😁

Did you get a chance to see the old saloon in Prohibition City?
Was it the 169 Club? I saw that one, which is near where I was. I didn't include it because I didn't know of anything about it.
So, do you know who keeps the cemataries mowed in in ghost towns?
Usually it’s a local person or group of people. Often there are signs for donations to help keep up the grounds.
Yes u are love you girl
