  • I just got the OP-Z from teenage Engineering!
    This is my first look at it.
    This is a really cool, portable and competent little synth with a nice and straight forward sequencer inside of it.
    It is about 650 USD though... Is it worth it?
    Im also announcing the winner of the first giveway and putting out a new one!!!

    Sorry to hear about brain tumor and surgery, just stay positive it will all work out in the end. Also a thing to keep in mind, yes you might lose hearing but you will still be alive and able to still make music. Don’t let nothing stop your creativity and passion.

    I just got the op z and it’s super dope. For someone like me a casual beat maker who tends to stick to the same formula it’s really inspiring. I’ve been making beats I never would have thought I’d without the OP-Z. It almost feels like cheating because literally just about everything sounds good on this thing. So dope.

  • @AndyTanguay
    @AndyTanguay 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Great review as usual.
    I love the thing. Scored one in late October. I love the idea that it's usable as it is, but you could add a big iPad screen, talk to external synths, eventually regular MIDI, probably sampling, DMX light shows, video, etc. It's a platform with room to expand. It's nuts.
    I hear you...the synths mostly sound like crap and they're less open to tweak than the OP1. Rumors have it that there may be downloadable synth packs in the future.
    Stay well!

    Hey Accurate, I appreciate the honest take on the OP-Z. I ordered it because I love my OP-1, but I gotta admit I struggled a bit with the price tag as well. I think there's a little special mystique about TE that gets people a little dazed about their gear. That includes me. Again, thanks for helping me with my Machine workflow as well- your sample workflow has really helped me adopt my routine. :)

    Thanks for the impressions. You haven't put me off ordering one :D It's a little indulgent price-wise but I'm a relative beginner and the all-in-one and portable nature of this device are perfect for me to play around with a variety of tools all in one unit. It should hold it's resale value as well should I find I have made a terrible mistake (no regrets!)

    • @peacefulpigeon7254
      @peacefulpigeon7254 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was very unsure about the opz but I definitely don’t have any regrets I am also a relative beginner and this little unit is amazing I bought it to learn how to make longer tracks and the ability to chain patterns, mute groups, play live, sequence beats and make really accurate choices with punch in effects is perfect. It has a lot of features and I am still learning. It also works really well as a midi controller for iPad synths too and overall i feel it is helping me develop as a musician too. Also I am travelling a lot so the portability is great. Hope you have fun!

    Had mine a few weeks now. It’s tempting to dismiss it as limited and toy-like. Sometimes when I don’t use it for a few days I wonder if it’s any good. In isolation the factory sounds are a bit lame. But every time I turn it on (and that’s every few days) and anywhere I turn it on (which is varied, because I take it everywhere in my coat pocket), something unique, musical and exciting happens. It really is a quite wonderful way of staying in touch with your creativity.

    I had one on pre order and was one of the first in Australia who had the opportunity to buy one. When I went to pick it up I found the device not very well made as in it kind of is irregular in pressure required to sound a note and also the power dial switch is an accident waiting to happen. As much as I wanted to take it home I instead got a refund and bought some other gear.

      th-cam.com/video/KwShZxfMROk/w-d-xo.html I dont know, this guy did a few cool beats on that thing. I don't think the question is whether you can make hip hop beat whit it. The question is, are you a person who is in to sequencer, or are you more a keyboarder or maybe a fingerdrumer. Still, for that money you can get better sequencers in my opinion.

    great review. It's nice to see that bluetooth option for optional screen and the device sure seems nice but Teenage Engineering is obsessed with small. Why would you need anything to be even more portable than the OP-1? Like so many of these instruments I wonder what would happen if they existed with attached keyboards like an Arturia Keystep. Or even full-size keyboard versions.

    People only say it's not worth the price because of the size. If it were the size of an Elektron box, no one would bat an eye. It's a synth, sample arranger, microphone, sequencer, DMX controller, Unity sequencer, etc. That's a lot of functionality packed into something that fits into your pocket. Yeah, it's spendy but it's worth the cost.

    I completely agree with your opinion on the Z next to the One. The OP-1 is an amazing device and I agree with everyone that it shouldn’t be $1,300 but it is, and people (like me) are paying that much for it. But the OP-1 is without any equal; it inspires one to be creative and that is why people are spending their $$ for it. A synth, 4 track recorder, sequencer, radio, sampler, etc, etc, that is portable and beautiful is everything!
