BEST SWORDFISH HOOK UP using Shimano Beastmaster 9000 - First Time Swordfishing - Marathon Florida

In this episode we go to Marathon, FL to target SWORDFISH for the first time ever!
With all the effort I have put in from buying my first Swordfish rod - Banax from Frigate Sales and investing in Shimano Beastmaster 9000 electric reel to buying and rigging all the tackle including rigging my own Daytime Swordfish Squid, which you can watch on my previous episode link below.
This episode is one of the biggest thrills you will ever watch. It didn't take long for my rigged squid to get hit and boy did the rod bow over so hard!!! This was a continued fight with this Swordfish for a little over 30 minutes. At first I had no idea what to do when the rod bowed over and instinct kicked in and told Alex we needed to chase him. After so much chasing I finally started to gain some line in but the fish said NOPE! and ran again which spooled me completely. Let's put it this way, I saw the the bottom of the spool with only 4 wraps of Braid line left on the spool I started to freak out! That's when I told Alex we need to chase him faster and I was running out of line. After so much chasing finally the fish got tired and I gained so many meters back from what he spooled, I was beating this fish!! The thrill was like no other fight I have encountered. This fight has made me want to get more into Sportfishing and continue my passion.

Putting "too much tension" on a swordfish is mostly a myth. In NZ they commonly use 20 kg of drag to fight swords and rarely pull hooks.

I had that drag almost locked down, so I definitely had the tension on em. He head shook and then weight came off line went slack and lost him 🙁 next time I’ll get him for sure!

In that bay boat you can’t tell from the helm where the line was going. He was sometimes going the wrong way and I hand to make sure I was on top of the fish. Besides that reel is way to small for Swordfish but I got er done! Too bad we lost it 🫣 thanks for watching! Appreciate the love 🥰
