    this is why i love generik tutorials. he doesn't care about efficiency or obscure game mechanics to exploit the game, he builds stuff that works, even 5 years and 9 versions later

    it's the nether, plus the video gets a bit darker when TH-cam renders it. I always rock my Minecraft brightness at 100%. Turn the brightness up on your monitor a bit! ;-)

    Ah man, I’m glad I found this video again. I built this a long time ago in one of my other worlds and loved it! But now I want to build it in my current world and couldn’t recall all the details, so I’m glad this video is still up and available to us! :) Thank you for taking the time to give us this tutorial. This farm is a great design.

      @@noshi7773 yup. It's super basic. You ought to make those piston cone designs if you have the materials. You can use the blaze rods as fuel and save the coal for torches. But otherwise yes as a starter farm this works.

  • @Generikb
    @Generikb  12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    by building the "landing pads" 6 blocks below the spawner, you're allowing blazes to spawn and fall below the mob spawn cap range of the spawner. This way you can just AFK and accumulate a bunch of blazes, then kill them with a sword or splash potion. Like I mentioned in the video though, with 1.3 there's really not much need for AFK farms anymore, especially with the double XP that blazes provide.

  • @Generikb

    The half slabs in the walking area isn't intended to stop blaze spawning, the spawning areas (at spawner level and one block above) are filled in with blocks in the walking area, so no blazes would spawn anyway. I've placed half slabs at the floor and ceiling to provide an easy to reach, half block gap between you and the blazes so you can kill them and not take damage.

  • @Generikb
    @Generikb  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    normally yes, but for Blazes they will spawn with a light level of 11 or higher. You'd pretty much have to torch up every single space (including the edge outside of the little area) to stop the spawning.

    This was fun to do without a fire resist potion. Heh heh. I was lucky, though, I found the blaze spawner platform/room inside a hill of netherrack, which made it easier to block off. Thanks a million for this tutorial, GB!

  • @Shilag
    @Shilag 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    You've probably gotten a lot of replies about this, but that update is only regarding upside-down half-slabs, and it refers to the top of them. Right now you can make a floor out of upside-down slabs to completely prevent spawning, but that'll get changed in 1.3 (you'll also be able to place redstone on them). Regular half-slabs still prevent spawning just as normal, and even with that, a normal mob still needs two blocks of vertical space to spawn.

  • @dailusan
    @dailusan 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for this. Made one for Minecraft 360, and although unable to place slabs on top ( ceiling) , was able to workaround. Can still get hit with their fire attack, but it's still awesome as an xpfarm and obtaining blaze rods.

  • @RoninWaffle
    @RoninWaffle 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm sure there's a better way to do this, but I don't want to bother with all the redstone and pistons. This works really well, especially since the nano-saber from the FTB modpack one-hits the blazes. A+

  • @desertdragon8609
    @desertdragon8609 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    as a note/testing, if you use 2xX gaps instead of 1xX for the spawning areas, and you have a shield you could rock slightly better efficiency for the price of potentially getting hit

    Once a certain number of mobs have spawned within a ?? space, no more will spawn. So if you have the taller on mobs will continuously spawn and not be limited. This gives the taller one a higher spawn rate and AFK abilities.

  • @ashleyunderscorebl
    @ashleyunderscorebl 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    This still works in 1.8! I used it in a factions server and made $8000+ per hour by selling blaze rods (diamonds are $900 at the shop). However, its a good idea to put a glass block on each middle block of the spawning rows due to the fact that all of them will shoot at you when you hit one now, so that blocks fireballs of 3/6 of the spawning areas.

    Minor suggestion many years later, can use dirt for your temp fill layers. It's cheap and fast to mine with a shovel thus making it nearly impossible to break both the spawner itself or any other parts of the design.

    It is much better if the ends of the spawning platforms are closed off so that the blazes can't see and shoot at you. Extend the floor out on each end and add columns to match the design eg glowstone, netherbrick, sandstone, then they can never see you.

    I think it's because if the blazes are close to the spawner it will stop creating more blazes. For his (AFK) version the blazes are dropped 6 spaces down to be out of range of the spawner so it will create more and more blazes. I would have liked to see the room full of blazes.
