They have engaged in some cost cutting because the current units no longer have a Mean Well PSU. The current ones have a PSU with "Hota" printed on the PCB and use AiSHi caps (which are decent quality caps but no Rubycons). The design of the wireless charging board is also now different, the PCB is round not square with little tabs on the side where the screws are) and the screen no longer has the AC connector to the PSU.
Hota is the actual manufacturer of these charges (the Hobbymate is a relabel, they are also sold as the Hota D6 Pro) so the "Hota" PSU must be an in-house design. I think what happened is that they used off the shelf parts for the PSU and wireless charging at first and then swicthed to in-house designs to save on production costs later.
I haven't seen any reports of these chargers failing recently so the changes don't seem to have (noticeably) affected quality. I ordered the "Pro" by accident, I actually wanted the D6 without the AC supply and I'll never use that feature so it doesn't really concern me anyway.

Power supply appears to be a Mean Well EPP-200-27 in case you ever need a replacement. Costs around $50.

I have a thunder ac6 hota charger that burned the internal ac power supply on my first ten batteries,so I replace the part very easy indeed, and the charger has been working fine for 15 years, little more little less, rc and all kinds of use. now I bought this hota pro charger, hope is good, I think is expensive for what it is at 116 at Amazon

Mine had a weird roller button. I have cleaned it up with isopropyl alcohol and now it's fine. I have the non pro version of this charger(it has no integrated power supply). Should I add one :D? Upper board seems to be different though, It won't be a clean mod also.

I would say only if you have a specific problem with your external power supply such as packaging or space issues. Of course if you just want to do the project that's a great reason too :-) thanks for bringing up an old video like this. It's always interesting to see what I was doing back then!

How loud is fan in this charger? And what dimensions fan have? I want this charger due to balance current, but fan may be an issue. Seems it will be first part which will get replaced to something quieter. True MeanWell power supply is cool. I hope that manufacturer didn't "upgraded" it to Chinesium-something at 2021 because semiconductor shortage.

So question... I'm damaged the fan in my Ultra Power UP6+, and Ive taken it apart to see how to replace the fan, but the fan header is under the large board with the transformer on it. What do I need to be careful not to touch. You mentioned capacitors (caps), is there anything else I need to be particular careful not to touch? I've also had the charger unplugged for about 12 hours now... Is that a factor in making it safer to work on?

Got a Hota D6 Pro from Banggood and when turned on I just get the message "CH1 Self-check failed! (E108)". Troubleshooting I did: firmware update or hard reboot, but problem continued. Not happy!
    UPDATE
    - reported the issue to HOTA, sent emails several times for any news, and they only kept replying "sorry to hear that" and did nothing
    - reported the issue to Banggood, and after sending the unit back was fully refunded
    - now I have an ISDT D2

@@DoRC The internal PSU now seems to be made by in house by Hota who is the actual maker of these chargers. They also use AiSHi caps which are apparently a decent Taiwanese brand so at least they didn't use noname chinese junk caps. The design of the screen and wireless charger have also changed, no more AC connection between the screen and the PSU (probably to use a common screen between the AC/DC and DC only versions of the charger) and the wireless charger PCB is now round with "ears" for the screws on either side.

Hello, since you seem to know your stuff I have one or two questions. So my charger just broke and it's not accepting power, I assumed that this was because a fuse blew because there are not burn marks. Would it be possible for you to direct me to where the fuse is or a video on the power supply? Also when I plug in a DC battery to the DC port it still doesn't power up, does this mean that it's actually something to do with the main board?

Looking at the video I don't see an obvious fuse on the power supply board. If it's there it'll be very close to where the power wires go into it. It is possible there isn't one or it's not what you expected it to look like. I'm not really skilled enough at this stuff to give you advice beyond that.
