Merv: The Heart of the Silk Road is a tense economic game charting the rise and fall of the greatest city in the world. Manage multiple tracks with only 12 actions, see what you can do with too little time, too many things you want to accomplish, and the city about to be ransacked...

5 - My favorite games. I'm disappointed when anyone I play games with doesn't like it, because it means I might play it less often.
4 - A great game. Almost always going in my collection.
3 - A solid game. Enjoyed it and can recommend it, but may or may not stay in my collection.
2 - I'm either not the target audience for the gameplay, or too many issues with it.
1 - An arguably bad game.

Had me at “heavy, tight Eurogame” so I appreciate you costing me 11+ min!

Happy to see you enjoyed the game and very happy with the 12 minute overview, 'a good one'. Guess my knowledge of the game made it easy to take in (maybe for viewers without knowledge of the game the explanation of the game could be a bit more comprehensive), but like it as it is.
Specially if you can (later on) match it with a play through. Together that would be a great combination.

Longer playthroughs are tough. I hope to do more stuff down the road but for right now they're rare.

@@BoardGameCo i understand I was asking more than I could chew ;-) But hey, it's not bad to express hope. But like I said in the previous comment. Good to have these shorter overviews.

I love the turn order mechanic in this game. At the moment I prefer multiplayer (any count) to solo, as the AI is really tough.... I'm so far off being competitive it's just not fun, but that may change as/if I get better.

I love the tension....always feel like I'm losing even when I win :)

I don't particularly feel building walls is a unimportant or "wasted" action within all the choices you get. Deciding -when- and -where- to place those walls is interesting (do you protect your own buildings and engine, but advance less in the track or defend other players buildings and go faster); also, it is tied to -both- the contracts and spices, since the amount a player can get at any given time is limited by where you are on that track.
While the first few (I'd say two) actions feel weaker, they are not less important. They involve deciding which strategy you're going for and after all players made their choices everyone needs to take everyone else's choices into account because the grid is a limited space, and where the actions are located makes a big difference.

Oh absolutely every action is important....doesn't stop me from wanting to feel like I can get more done :)

You compared it to Coimbra, a game I really enjoy. I've also heard it compared to Gungong, a game that, inspite of the really cleaver and fun card mechanic, feel very flat for me. Which of those two is Merv closer to?

Separate time stamp for how it plays with different player counts 😜 please 😇☺️

Calimala, from the same designer, is also great (and doesn't get enough love).
