hey! would it be possible for you to make a video/reply to this comment regarding your top tips (+ your med school friends' top tips) on how to get into UNSW medicine? Here are some of the things I (along with so many people haha) are curious about:
    - Ideal ATAR
    - Ideal UCAT
    - How to balance UCAT prep and school assessments
    - When to start doing full HSC practice papers
    - Top tips for studying efficiently - softwares/apps used, e.g. spaced repetition with Anki
    thanks :)

@@hellothysworld omg thank you so much!! here are some extra questions (ranked in terms of most important --> least, so if these are too much, you can def not answer all!!) :
      UNSW Med:
      - How long did you spend on your application form, and what kind of things did you emphasise?
      - Is it true that there are "allocated" quotas for selective school students?
      - How to "stand out" in your application + interview?
      - How to prepare genuine responses to interview questions?
      - Is volunteer work necessary?
      - Did you apply for scholarships? (I researched on the UNSW website, but there doesn't seem to be full scholarships for undergraduate medicine)
      General Year 12:
      - How to balance time between tutoring, school, homework, etc.?
      - How to not burn out :o
      - When did you start collating information on unis, degrees, etc. and applying for med applications (e.g. UNSW, JCU written applications)
      English (advanced):
      - How to write perfect essays + adapt them for external and school exams? Did you have a specific structure you followed/strategy for unseen essay qs?
      - Best strategy for English exams - i.e. tips for short answer, essays, etc.
      Chem + Bio:
      - How to make notes effectively and revise by yourself?
      - How to structure revision + studying so that you are well-prepared for exam weeks?
      - Best resources to use - textbooks, notes, qs, etc.?

@@chaewonpark4755 ok - i'll definitely get around to answering the UNSW med ones and will compile them into a video (will likely take a while though, bc i want everything to be as accurate as possible). as for the other questions ill have to have a think over it because it's been a while ahaha so wont guarantee that there will be a response, but if i can think of something ill respond here most likely!
thanks again for your questions Chaewon, and good luck with your studies!!! 🕺🏻📚

hey Chaewon, just a reply to let you know i havent forgotten about you!!! ill defs be answering your qs about UNSW med AND general yr 12 in a future vid (working on it rn).
i'll answer ur q about english here:
      - for english: have an understanding of the big stuff like themes, characterisation, plot, context BEFORE jumping into the micro stuff like diction, truncated sentences, allusion, imagery, simile, metaphor, personification. my biggest mistake was focusing on the micro techniques and neglecting the macro techniques. compile a masterdoc of macro + micro techniques for all your techniques and write paragraphs where you combine both. practise writing essays with sample questions. some people memorise essays/paragraphs and some only memorise quotes and techniques. really up to you, it’s all individual preference - both ways work, both ways can not work.
-i ran out of time to prepare for english trials bc i was focused on ucat prep but i memorised quotes, techniques + themes. if i could go back id definitely prewrite paragraphs on all the possible themes, combine micro and macro techniques with quotes. BUT definitely you have to memorise quotes + techniques bc youll always use them in essays
-for english exams: for everything make sure u read the question, break it down - what are they asking you? then make a clear but quick plan w ur argument, quotes and techniques. for SAQs practise identifying techniques + their effect - just have a toolbox of techniques ready to go - metaphor, simile, personification etc. dont forget visual techniques in case they give you a photo to analyse - salience, colour, framing, gaze, symbolism etc
ill reply when i post the vid that'll answer ur qs. in the meantime, happy studying & take care Chaewon 😁!

Can I ask you a question abt the ATAR requirement for UNSW med? I’m a first year student at a different uni and I’m thinking about using my ATAR again (and sitting the UCAT) to apply for medicine at UNSW

scroll to the 'university students and graduates' section: med.unsw.edu.au/study-us/undergraduate/bachelor-degrees/bachelor-medical-studiesdoctor-medicine/how-apply/local-applicants/selection-interview
if you're interested in stats regarding marks for those who received a unsw med offer for 2021 entry go to 27:24 (selection rank) + 29:53 (ucat) on this vid: th-cam.com/video/GDK8G3DUQWw/w-d-xo.html
      hope that helps! 🌞

    • @hellothysworld
      @hellothysworld  3 ปีที่แล้ว

hi! no opinion as ive never been there + dont rlly know anyone @portmac well enough to ask. maybe do a quick google search? what i do know is they learn the same content as us but have smaller classes bc there's less students (so maybe easier to make friends??)
good luck for med + lmk if you have any qs about kensington campus - ill be able to answer those a bit better 🤓
