I used to wonder about that too. Now, it has happened to me not just once but multiple times that I forget which turn I'm on and mistakenly think it's the last one. That could have been it as well.
I think you can get higher but requires set up. Squirrel girl in to bar with kill monger else where(like deaths domain) turn 4 (less if other lanes give energy/cost reduction) turn 5 death and venom(enemy plays magik) hulk buster on venom turn 6. Turn 7 pull the trigger.

I just did the same exact thing although I didn't use buster so my venom was a bit smaller
Seeing Venom grow and become more powerful is rewarding. hulk Buster provides great assistance, but sometimes it's not necessary to win.
I actually thought there might be Shang chi which could be a problem but damn
The final play in the destruction deck is almost always the same, with Venom on Nimrod followed by either Carnage or Deathlok.
