    I love seeing the milling of the old growth wood. It is a art that is slipping fast away. The local mill in my town, mills trees between 30-40 years old which probably average about 10 inches in diameter. By the way Cody, I don't begrudge you doing these projects and improvements. I think it is a blessing you can do these things and introduce others to some of the possibilities in our beautiful northwest area.

    I work in more of a modern saw mill. I love seeing these old one's! That looked like a planer and fed to a green chain. That's what that roller was that you spun. They would pull lumber off of the green chain and stack it into units

      Walking Judy It's a shaper...

    • @ecleveland1
      @ecleveland1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Walking Judy It looks like a combination planer and shaper. The large cutting bits on the table are the edge profile cutters. Rough cut lumber goes in and gets planned and the edges shaped all in one run through the machine.

    • @derKarl_stp
      @derKarl_stp 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      for me it looks like it is a combo shaper planer being able to plane and cut tongue and groove boards at the same process... and the direction the wood runs on it is the other way around (the way you described wranglerstar in the vid) as the control station is where the boards come in (you see the allignment in the front and this keeps the incoming boards on the right side when it does come in and at the end the funnel shaped sheetmetal around the outlet opening)

  • @KPearce57
    @KPearce57 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    About the only way you can keep them from walking out is have the cribbing higher in the back than the front, and a super tight strap in the middle first and then on the ends.

    With cabin flooring its going to move its not like regular 3/4 inch flooring you could let it acclimate in the house for a week and lay it down. You will want it a little wet so its pliable. No don't stain it a dark color that ruins the look you clear coat it and it will look just fine. It looks like the stuff you got has some colors to it when you lay it down choose your boards carefully so you don't have a big blotchy pattern. Like I said in your last video cabin flooring takes longer to lay its not perfectly straight or even.

    That was not proper load securement! ;) wranglerstar If you ever haul bundles like that again, Put a 2x4 or something on your back piece of dunnage so it raises the rear up. Just a inch or 2 helps even on the roughest roads. No matter how tight you get your straps the boards on the interior will still be loose. Love the videos long time sub my friend. God bless.

    • @MnTrucker1984
      @MnTrucker1984 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      dpeagles Of course! But a lot of times its not avail at saw mills. A scrap piece of wood to raise the rear end generally is.. Just anything to keep the lumber from working back. It wont work out the front due to the movement of the vehicle.. Well, unless you put your foot through the brake an floor board ;) Have a great weekend my friend!

    • @arjanwilbie2511
      @arjanwilbie2511 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Jared TruckinPiper also mrs Wranglerstar did not have proper experience with strapping loads down. I call driver error for not checking the road behind him, checking the load at rough bits. as a punishment i say he needs to put more videos up from driving along. I hope they learned a bit and no accidents happened. :)

    • @CodeFoxAus
      @CodeFoxAus 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Jared TruckinPiper If you put your ties over the top of your dunnage it will clamp the load and stop it shifting or separating. The front strap was behind the front dunnage and put a bow into the load, and actually separated / spread the shorter boards rear of the back dunnage apart and allowed them to bounce around. The rear strap really didn't do anything.

    That looked like a molder planer to me. I used to run many thousands of board feet through a similar much smaller one that made ice cream bucket staves.

  • @ecleveland1
    @ecleveland1 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Don't feel to bad about not noticing the boards coming out. I once had a load of decking 12ft long and about half as much as you did on your trailer in the back of my F350. It was metal banded just like yours and I put a strap across the back to hold it in. Drove about 20 miles backed in to the job site to unload, me and the guy that was with me got out of the truck and walked to the back to unload and SURPRISE it was gone. That day I learned never put anything on a Pendaliner bed liner and have the tailgate down. We never felt it come out, luckily someone at the local Autozone saw it fall out and picked it up and waited for us to backtrack.

    My guess is the monster machine is for making thin boards, that can be used to make plywood products. Just keep what your doing. So informative. I have seen and touched my first Californian giant redwood. Something I thought I would never happen to me, unless I traveled to the States. But to have one 20 minuets away and here in Yorkshire U.K. Just fantastic almost spiritual as I have heard so much about them. Crazy bark. A baby at about 40 odd feet. Cheers Duncan.

    Things I learned:
    Women securing tie downs = lost loads
    Women notice doors
    Cody drives fast looking for lost wood and ignores wife saying she saw something in the bushes
    jk 😉
    By the way, dogs sometimes jump out of moving cars with the windows all the way open, it might be better to have the window up a few inches to act as a barrier in case the dog gets it in its head that it's a good idea to leap out the window. A few years ago I was a few cars behind someone who had the window all the way open with their dog looking out and suddenly I see the dog jump out and hit the ground and the car behind them went right over the dog and I saw everything. Very sad. Just thought I'd save you and anyone else from that heart ache.

    • @mrbakerskatz
      @mrbakerskatz 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      traderjoes I agree the dog should be in a cage except for when it is peeing and or pooing. I also think people should be caged inside a moving vehicle because what if that person decides to jump out. People (All) should not have the right to make decisions for other things that might have life altering situations because people are to stupid to make those decisions Right Joe !! Safety Third !!

      traderjoes when my jack Russel was a pup we were pulling up at our farm and we were going at walking pace maybe slower but jumped out of the car and then it happens going down a bog road but we were going a bit faster. i don't think they should be put in a cage instead have the window down half way so they can still stick there head out but not jump out.

    When you drove off with only those two ratchet straps over unsupported parts of the bundle I already had my doubts, seems I was right.. In Europe you could get fined for driving around like that, and it won't be a small fine. At least put a strap around the whole bundle, and put the straps that tie the bundle down over the blocks that support the bundle. And, after driving a few kilometers/miles, stop to retension the straps. They always need to settle a bit and will lose tension. Besides that it's always wise to put a trailer net over loads like this. They're inexpensive so there's no excuse for not using them.

    It's the ABS braking systems that cause the washboard effect of gravel roads.

    • @wranglerstar
      @wranglerstar  9 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Bill Whitman The washboard effect existed years before ABS was invented,

    • @NVOutsider
      @NVOutsider 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Bill Whitman it's actually caused by driving to fast for the surface your on. As you go faster the suspension tends to oscillate more in relation to the smaller bump. Each time the tires slam back down into the road surface they cause the surface material to get knocked loose and move away from where it was thus creating high and low spots ie: washboards.

      rol dac As a preface, there is more than on way to do it, but having said that would guess first it would be nailed down, sanded, and only then would a finish be applied. In many applications staining followed by polyurethane would be a one common approach. Varnish, various oils, and or waxes can also be used.

      I get the two first ones... That would, sort of solve the problem.. But the last one.. Not sure how that would help...
