The Parkrun has made an enormous contribution to the health of the nation, it helps ordinary people take up exercise. What I don't understand is why good club runners, even elite runners feel the need to turn up. The fastest time at my Parkrun is held by an Olympian! When I was a teenager I could run sub 16:00 min for 5,000 m on the track, had the Parkrun existed I would not have felt the need to turn up and show-off.

Yeah it’s honestly great obv just having some fun but some of the elitism
In all walks of life can be frustrating.
The only negative experience I’ve had there is one guy getting rather upset about my running vest as it’s a 5km run but I was actually incorporating it into a 25km training run.
      Some people just can’t help
Themselves I suppose which is why it’s a chance to show up and brag they won.
In strongman you’d get people sandbagging into lower level comps then going into work on Monday with their winners trophy and no one would know they competed in the beginners class

ha, Whilst I can relate to the first point, I do enjoy being lapped by the 80 year olds (admittedly have ran their entire lives). I love the amount of park runs around, I have 4 different ones I can go to! However, Im annoyed at the audacity they have as they all put hills in them!! Parkrun needs to be flat! Just for me! (Sarcasm there btw). I love park run, and I'm sure you do to :P

Absolutely it’s all a bit of fun - if you’re looking for a really flat one then market harborough is really fast if I could get to a parkrun I’d target that one

@@TheHeavyweightRunner Long live park run. One by my parents (Blyth Links) is by the beach and apart from one tiny section is pretty much flat. The ones I run in Scotland......all full of bastard hill :P

Lots of turns at Market Harborough though, and I’m not a fan of 3 laps. I nip over to Ferry Meadows when I’m chasing a PB
