Thank you.. got some great tips. I'm pretty sure your not supposed to let it dry however, before applying the second coat. If you let it dry, the second coat won't soak in. Also, the standard seems to be to use a soft car wash broom for floor surfaces. Much easier.
@@TheRayDog Their site tells you to apply the second coat within 10-20 minutes, as the first coat mustn't dry... this stuff dries relatively quick, making it tricky to apply a second coat. From their site: "For pressure treated lumber and other porous woods apply two wet-on-damp coats, waiting 10-20 minutes between coats. It is very important to not let the first coat dry completely before applying the second coat."
@@daedalos5132 There's conflicting info. I see in the instructions sheet, it says wait 20 minutes. Elsewhere, as you pointed out, 10-20 minutes. Then in their online help forum, a rep said a minimum of 20 mins. Which is what I use, to give the first coat a chance to more deeply soak. On their help site, it says 20-120 mins. Not terribly consistent.
@@TheRayDog They really should clear this up. When I did my deck last month, for the most part, I applied second coats at around the 20 minute mark and all those sections went without a hitch. But, like I said, it's tricky keeping the timing right when your doing a large deck.. so there were sections where the second coat was applied beyond the 20 minute mark. I had trouble with some of those sections because the paint just wouldn't absorb and I had to wipe it off with a rag. In the end, it's not an exact science because some planks will absorb more paint than others, thus affecting the timing. Just to be safe, I would do it at the 20 minute mark, max. Did your paint job come out smooth or did you have any absorbing issues?
@@daedalos5132 I've been applying to very dry, unsealed for 2 years, SYP pressure treated. So it has soaked up well. No issues at 20 mins. I could recoat after 5 mins even and observe no issues, it seems, it soaks so fast. I was waiting the 20 to get an extra deep first soak. But with 1/2 left to do, I'll move to a 10 minute, to see the effect over the next year or two. Different sections with a border between, no problem having an uneven look. I would expect more pealing in the 20 minute section if I waited too long.
thank you very much young man! my picnic outdoor table came out very nice 👌 I did used a small sponge instead of a brush thank again from Canada 🇨🇦 😀 😊
Using it for over 10 years in Colorado sun and find it outlasts superdeck oil. I always use the cleaner especially where the wood posts meet trex. Try to avoid applying any of it in direct sun.
I'm glad I came across your video. I have a new deck and privacy fence that was installed about a month ago. The first stain product I researched was the Defy water-based stain and I even purchased some color samples. It's good to see how the stain is applied and how it soaks into the wood. It looks really nice. My deck and fence is made of pine and I'm going to order the redwood semi-transparent stain. I hope my deck and fence turn out as nice as the project you did.
I can see charging the home owner at least a thousand dollars for all of the work you did on that deck. But it looked like you were using that deck brightener almost full strength on the deck itself. Many years ago I a ready to use deck brightener on my cedar deck and left it on my deck a little too long and ended up raising the grain on the wood. The whole deck was covered in peach fuzz and had to spend a day on my hands and knees power sanding the peach fuzz off before staining. But your closeups of the deck showed no similar damage so maybe redwood does not act adversely to too much brightener. Anyways, I want to thankyou for the video. That deck is beautiful!!!
Its not a product that you will be able to fine in Canada. There is only one store that will ship to Canada at this time. That would be The Sealer Store. They are located in Michigan.

Defy recommends a minimum of 20 mins between coats. It seems dry but isn't. It has soaked in but is still curing internally.

Super! Glad your picnic table turned out so nice

I’ve watched several of your informative videos. Excellent work Grasshopper!
Thanks. 🙏 I work really hard on my jobs (always takes longer than I think)

i'm sure it will. enjoy the process!
I like this stuff. Be patient, enjoy the process. Do the work - you’ll be happy 😊

Excellent work !
Mr. Lempka - Kind words for a working man. Thank you sir.
Man, that is a lot of work, it seems. God bless ya.
🙏 💪 👀 ✨ I REALLY CARE. Thank you sir.
Thanks. 🙏 I work really hard on my jobs (always takes longer than I think) 🙄
Yo, you the man. Thanks for this video. Extremely helpful.
i worked hard on this - thanks
Do you recommend sanding prior to clean/brighten with the Defy products? My deck is 8 months old. Looking at using the new Ultra product
I think sanding would be a bit much for a deck
Excellent review brother!
Thanks - Glad to be of some help. I worked hard on this one 😅
For a solid stain, do you need a brightner?
For a solid stain I wouldn't think so. The solid should cover most blemished spots.
Is it waterproof?
Yes! Very much so. That's the whole point :- )
I’m wondering if anyone has recently ordered Defy to Canada and can share if the shipping and tariffs were reasonable? I’d really appreciate-thanks
Good question

Always use an oil based stain.
Hmmm...
You spent half the video showing us how to remove anything stuck between or on decking. 😳
Gosh, sorry about that. I talk way too much. But I'm making my more recent videos with less blabbing
