I got lucky enough to find a real steam Thomas, along with his extra-long Annie and Clarabel a few years back. Unfortunately, he was ripped separately from Annie. Now I feel motivated to try and fix him. 😃
@@ItsTrainBoy yes their was a little red light in the funnel my friend had this set with the water tower it came with a lot of destinations great video :)
Here’s mine: 5. Edward (original release): Tomy nailed him. Proper wheel arrangement and side rods and a well-sculpted face. What more could you ask for from one of these things? 4. Arthur: astonishingly well-detailed for his size and one of the few US releases to keep his painted running board. 3. Flip-Face Toby: The BEST Toby. That’s it, that’s all I needed to say. 2. Neville: One of those times Tomy went super HARD on a nothing character and the end result was fantastic. Didn’t hurt that he was engine powered and not tender powered at a time when Tomy/HiT started prioritizing the latter to the engines’ detriment. 1. Trackmaster RC Thomas (2008): This thing SLAPPED. Well-painted, well-molded, it ran surprisingly decently, and the sounds you could make with the remote were the cherry on top.
I still own an Arthur that came with the red wagon and while i’m glad the basic trackmaster coloured the boiler parts of engines, the running board sold Arthur for me
I don't know if there were other versions, but I can confirm for spot number 1 that my steam along Thomas did have a red light in the funnel. Surprisingly I still have the whole set to this day, it was a gift from my grandparents when I was young and one of the many plarail items I hold close to my heart, though the only downside is the water tower got a crack in it at some point and won't hold water for long.. maybe I should take it out and try fixing it?
I think Murdoch is one of the best Trackmaster models, not just because I like him as a character, but his proportions and accurate wheel configuration is amazing.
Common Trainboy W as usual. I'm glad you placed Steam Along Thomas at #1 he really holds a special place in my heart as I recently got one NIB for cheap, but sadly due to old age Annie's wheel gear is broken so i'm planning to fix him soon when I have the time. Again great video as always!
I pretty much agree with you here. However, I personally might have included some of the talking variants from classic Trackmaster. Specifically the Spanish speaking ones. There's just something so satisfying to me about hearing the Spanish voice cast with the toys.
Great list, but I’m SHOCKED there wasn’t a Flip-Face engine, they were amazing! BoCo is definitely a fantastic one and I’m glad you included him, personally my top five would be (from 1 to 5) the Plarail Talk n Action Diesel 10, the TrackMaster Flip-Face Toby & Hiro, the Plarail Powerful Gordon, the Plarail Silver Thomas, and the 2003-18 Plarail Edward
I had the motor powered rocky, it was a blast to play with. I had also the RC Percy and for some reason my didn’t work and I think that was the case for others as well and I disappointed about it. The 3-speed James that was an awesome piece of kit though for me as the days went on he wouldn’t go anymore, when you set him to move you would get the sound but James wouldn’t budge and the boiler where the battery compartment would be would get warm for some reason and this would happen even when I changed the batteries. I would be disappointed later on about it also. Overall Thomas memory lane was the best of my younger years.
i was never a fan of Trackmaster. i was born in 2001, and all of my Thomas stuff was Tomy Blue Track, so i was REALLY disappointed when i could no longer get track and sets for the stuff i had. and was basically forced into a new type of track for nothing.
I'm pre-Trackmaster Era, I had/have a massive collection of the Ertl Thomas diecast toys. But I do enjoy these videos and learning about other Thomas toys that were made.
I find it fascinating, that despite the fact that Nintendo is notorious for copyright striking stuff related to their properties- it's easier to use N64 music than actual Thomas music because Mattel is apparently worse.
I’ve got two Trackmaster Murdochs unopened and brand spanking new. They are on display in a air tight locked display case, Murdoch was my favorite character in the model series, as he was the largest engine on Sodor at the time of his appearance. I may be 47 years old, but I’ll always have a special place for good old Murdoch in my heart. *9F’s for life!*
The real steam Thomas was one of my favorites too! However the water was unfortunately it's fatal flaw. I didn't know as a kid that I was supposed to put the water in his side tank, and so I put it down his funnel as that's what made sense to me as a kid. Unfortunately, that was a one way ticket to break him instantly. So now I have two Steam Thomas sets. Until I did it again. So yeah it's a great toy as an adult collector, but as a child it was begging to be destroyed!
So apparently, I had a LOT of Thomas rc trains. My mom said that had like ALL of them. She said that she bought them when she worked at Walmart. She said that I even had rare ones to. I think I still have them somewhere too.
I had 3 speed James as a kid (and still own it) and I loved it so much. It’s one of my favorites as well. My top 5 would be 5: Neville 4: 3 speed James 3: flip face Thomas 2: flip face hero 1: streamlining Thomas (the Tomy version)
if you ever make a worst engines, i bet the whole list will be trackmaster revolutions Also my list: Number 5, Mighty-Mac: Wonderful model, Awesome detail, and the feature of the changing body was so astonishing me in disbelief that they would do it. the only critiques are he is a tender powered engine, and he only uses 1 coach in the whole series, but an awesome model Number 4, Dennis, Amazing detail, Actual tear drop blistered wheels, and great face, the only thing bad i have to say is the gears are a bit to loud, maybe from old age, but a great model none the less Number 3, Trackmaster Hard at Work Thomas and Diesel, their faces are spot on, the detail is wonderful, and diesel came in a huge brendam docks set, only bad thing is that their cgi face is kind of off, but wonderful Number 2, Plarail Emily, while yes she is tender powered, she is probably the best tender powered engine, because the fact she actually has working side-rods, the only bad thing is the face, but it’s wonderful And Number 1, Trackmaster Porter, wonderfully accurate detailing, the domes are a reasonable size, and the cargo he came with was actually sensible, because he is a dock engine Honorable mention: Trackmaster re-release hank, now this is a banger, but i wish that it did not have static side rods, which is the reason he is not on the list
I like the engines you included from lines that we haven’t seen for a long time, especially the remote control engines! I like the 3 speed ones the most with the amount of speeds you can put the engine in!
I had the tomy rocky as a kid, I was so fascinated by how the cranks actually moved and he was a great model. Another favourite of mine was my 1998 stepney. He always came out when I set tye trackmaster up.
I don’t think you should have put James up there I had a three speed thomas that always choked up and moved like a snail I have no idea why but I’ve seen the same problem online so the line definitely had problems
I ABSOLUTELY agree with you on the 3 speed James! I remember getting him and was SO excited when I was much younger, recreating many of the chases that happened in the show was honestly one of the best parts about this version. Honestly, the 3 speed engines were top tier, even if I only ever got James 😭
The metallic steam along Thomas that came with a set was the first Thomas merchandise I had in my childhood and still had it to this today but messed up very badly and was turned into a custom.
The one thing that bugs me about most Trackmaster Rocky models is that he's always facing backwards. In the show, Rocky is always seen going forwards. I think the only times we see him being pulled backwards were in Hero of the Rails and the Series 18 episode Duck in the Water. Correct me if I'm wrong on that but does anyone find it a bit annoying that Rocky's TM Model is always stuck facing backwards.
I agree with this list, the steam along Thomas does deserve to be #1, no pun intended. Definitely one of my favorite items as a kid, and I wish I still had him to this day.
I had a James that came with green sensor track that moved pins on the bottom of the engine to make James do things like speed up, stop, slow down and make noise. That was pretty cool
I was very lucky to own the Steam-Along Thomas as a kid, and I absolutely loved playing with him. I was always very annoyed that Clarabel didn't have a rear coupling, so my grandfather fashioned one out of a spare piece of plastic.

I had the HIT Toys RC Percy as a kid, don’t recall if he came with a Breakvan or not. I didn’t personally have the steam along Thomas but my friend did, I’ve always been into wooden railway and Hornby.
Would love to hear your opinion on the top five Bachmann models and top five Hornby models. I wouldn’t dare ask you to do a OO gauge one as I think both ranges offer excellent choices to difficult to choose from - Bachmann for its model series accuracy and Hornby for its character basis accuracy.
I was born in 2010 so I had 3 years of Trackmaster and with Trackmaster2.0's release, I can say that today's kids will never k is the pure joy of og Trackmaster. (I have face switching, RC Thomas and Steaming Thomas and I feel so lucky to have them
I got the water tower steam set when i was a kid! I had to give my whorde of thomas die cast and trackmaster to my younger brother when I was ten, then eventually he gave them to my nephew a few states away. Sadly I dont think I'll ever see them again, but I'm more sad about not still having the die cast boulder mountain set anymore honestly.
Really glad I have the Steam along thomas, tho It came in a different set without the water tank. I was always amazed by how much faster it was compared to everything else. As a kid speed was greatness, so it really was my favorite thomas toy
I had a Steam Along Thomas in my early years and it was one of my favorites! Unfortunately, he stopped steaming and peeping along a year later due to malfunctions
Steam along thomas was my first and only track master set I had, I got it for christmas one year whe. I was real young ,unfortunately my copy got wore out and we had to throw it out years later, ah the memories
Steam-Along is one of my favourite Thomas items too. I was lucky to find one in a model railway shop (of all places), and the sound/steam effects still work though the motor doesn't. In other words, mine only moves when you're hand is pushing it. Silly story; I got my SAT at a little shop in Napier, NZ along with a Hornby Class 66. The next day I was in a town called Putaruru and got pictures of Thomas with a real diesel locomotive in the background. If anyone's interested, these are my favourite Tomy/Trackmaster 1 locomotives: 5) Murdoch 4) Stanley 3) Diesel 10 2) Toby 1) Steam-Along Thomas
I had a powered Rocky Crain. I destroyed that thing, doesn’t work at all. Kinda sad because I know those are worth a lot now but im happy I got a lot of use out of it.
Personally I always loved my trackmaster Hiro model, and really regret letting my parents get rid of him. He was a blast to watch putt around some track, or even just to push along.
I had two of the steam Thomas packs, one to replace the broken first. But it’s still in one piece! Or so I believe. As well as the steam, there was a red light in the chimney and chuff sounds plus the occasional whistle…
IMO, Emily is my favorite Plarail/Trackmaster model, her huge giant wheel is great and her being tender powered makes sense, because how would you fit a battery in that model? She’s heavily underrated and I think deserves more popularity
My DEFINITE favorite is the steam along thomas because i have both versions and they are super fast and have nice steaming features and also are just really beautiful
I used to have a lot of Tomy/Trackmaster Motorized Engines such as Thomas,Percy,James,Gordon,Henry,Edward,Duck,Oliver,Boco,Devious Diesel,Diesel 10,Salty,Toby,Bill,Spencer,Emily,Mighty Mac,Lady,Hiro,Victor,RC Victor,Stepney and Skarloey
I personally think the James belongs in the same category as the trackmaster 2 Flying Scotsman, it wouldve been better just to release it without the steam effects on it.
Well my top 5 Will be 5-tomy Mavis 4-steam Along Thomas 3-talking Gordon (i think the trackmaster 1) 2-flip face Hiro 1-trackmaster motorized Spencer ( ITS nostalgic for me)
Personally, I can agree with your placement of the 3 Speed James. I personally have the version with the higher boiler/tender and cgi face. It’s a great model that looks good and runs well, and one of the fastest I own when going at top speed. Of course, not *the* fastest, as I do happen to have a Steam Along Thomas, which I think everyone can agree is the best engine out of any range.
My top 5 1. 1994 james they did super good for the first james model 2. Flip face james just yes 3.3 speed james super cool 4.rocky (HiT version) super cool love the motorized crane feature 5. Steam along thomas love the steam feature and the shiny paint
I had the steam along one, it was definitely one of my favorites! Unfortunately, it stopped working after a few years. Something was up with the motor…
I shockingly only ever had maybe two Trackmaster sets ever as a kid, those being the Dash at the Zip-Line Bridge, and Shipwreck Rails. My parents didn't really have the money to buy the motorized Thomas merchandise, so I grew up mostly on Wooden Railway, with a bit of Take 'n' Play. However, I do have a fondness towards the motorized Thomas ranges, as they were one of the most unique pieces of merch made for Thomas, no question. My top 10 favorite models from Trackmaster/Tomy/Plarail go as follows (in no particular order): #10: Plarail Neville (2006) #9: Trackmaster Diesel (2010) #8: Plarail Connor (2014) #7: Trackmaster Porter (2013) #6: Plarail Stepney (1999) #5: Plarail Murdoch (2004) #4: Trackmaster Stephen (2013) #3: Plarail Edward (2003) #2: Plarail Gordon (2015) #1: Plarail Hiro (2011/2012)
I actually have a 3-speed James. However zthe remote seems to have disappeared. I think I still have the James somewhere in a box and I loved him. He was the fastest Trackmaster engine during his playtime which made him stand out. Backing up is slow like I think even slower than a regular Trackmaster so I usually ran him forward. Probably would've been cool to get the 3-speed Gordon too though it was late for the era let alone getting lucky at getting the James. But hey, one from the range is better than none of the experience from when Thomas had more variety than repeats.
I got lucky enough to find a real steam Thomas, along with his extra-long Annie and Clarabel a few years back. Unfortunately, he was ripped separately from Annie. Now I feel motivated to try and fix him. 😃
SAVE THAT LITTLE MAN! 🤣
Extra long Annie and Clarabel… you mean Railway Series-accurate Annie and Clarabel?
@TrainBoy It’s my new side quest now 😂
@Luke Canady! Basically. If I’m correct, the real steam editions of them were longer than the standard releases.
@@ItsTrainBoy yes their was a little red light in the funnel my friend had this set with the water tower it came with a lot of destinations great video :)

I had the Steam Along Thomas but the sad thing is that the cuppling on annie broke so I couldn't use clarabelle
I like the Trackmaster engines that have trucks that move around as they're being pulled around.😊👍
My top 5
1. 1994 james they did super good for the first james model
2. Flip face james just yes
3.3 speed james super cool
4.rocky (HiT version) super cool love the motorized crane feature
5. Steam along thomas love the steam feature and the shiny paint
Rip Flip Face James
I used that 2008/2009 RC Percy's coach to make a custom Daisy
My top 10 favorite models from Trackmaster/Tomy/Plarail go as follows (in no particular order):
#10: Plarail Neville (2006)
#9: Trackmaster Diesel (2010)
#8: Plarail Connor (2014)
#7: Trackmaster Porter (2013)
#6: Plarail Stepney (1999)
#5: Plarail Murdoch (2004)
#4: Trackmaster Stephen (2013)
#3: Plarail Edward (2003)
#2: Plarail Gordon (2015)
#1: Plarail Hiro (2011/2012)
i remember having a steaming tomy thomas that had the coupling and power switch of annie broken off, boy do i regret that now
I was very lucky to have the steam along Thomas set back in the day, but sadly that model is no longer with me and it still makes me sad knowing this…
I’m subscribed, so I’ll stay. 😂🤣🤣
Great video!
I want to see the top 5 worst trackmaster engines
Had the steaming Thomas myself, it did have a red light but it also leaked alot
Great video
What about take n play? Will you review TakenPlay engines and sets?
I got a huge box or Trackmaster/Plarail box for £10 a couple years ago.
Charity shops are the best.
I'm pretty sure I have a real steam Thomas somewhere, just like this one. I did get nostalgia vibes from this video.
Rc Percy is fire. That face is iconic

2. Buzz Buzz James
3. Edward

Loving the best and worst videos, but what about mid? What are some sets that make you react “there it is”
think my cousins had the steam along set with Thomas, there was definitely a red light somewhere in it.
Mine:
5. Trackmaster Revolution Percy (Reason: Design)
4. Trackmaster Classic Talking Percy (Reason: Safety Switch)
3. TOMY Talk N Action Percy (Reason: Variable Speed)
2. Trackmaster AEG Percy (Reason: Design)
1. Trackmaster Revolution Racing Percy (Reason: The Decals And The Face)
Honorable Mention: Trackmaster Revolution Turbo Percy (Reason: Variable Speed)
I have a modern track master steam Percy I still have him today I got him during my Thomas and friend’s addiction and buying spree
