🎼🎵🎶And Ezra Pound and T.S. Eliot fighting in the captain's tower While calypso singers laugh at them And fishermen hold flowers Between the windows of the sea where lovely mermaids flow And nobody has to think too much about Desolation row
Awesome, YES, I have been looking at Chinese painting-- usually made by poets. They were invented, not observed so directly, I love this. Thank you Ian. I am intrigued to read your coming book of poetry. This is a great insight to Cormac's style, and philosophy.
I came here because of Ezra Pound. I liked what I saw. I subscribed, but I came here for Pound. My grandfather knew him, and was a well-known poet at the time no one remembers. I was hoping to find more videos about the modernist poets my grandfather knew. I don't suppose you have run across anything like that? It would be great to find a youtuber who likes that stuff. All I can find on poetry is Rupi Kaur, Rupi Kaur, Rupi Kaur.
Here is a video of me ranking the modernist poets. th-cam.com/video/NVmekFz7fxE/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=WriteConscious Made some others throughout my four years of doing this. Here is another on RIlke th-cam.com/video/YX4XSXs4V9Y/w-d-xo.html
Hey man, been watching your videos for a while and just wanted to say I think you're doing excellent stuff with your channel. I find your approach to literature really refreshing, grounded and quite courageous in all honesty, you're aiming big and its inspiring. I'm really into the Modernists and classical Chinese poetry so I got a lot out of this one. I wouldn't have thought that there'd have been any outright connection between McCarthy and Pound so it's really interesting to discover this, and McCarthy's own early poem too. Whenever that book of Chinese inspired poems of yours appears, you'll have an interested and engaged reader in myself here in the UK. I'm reminded quite a bit of David Hinton's 'Desert' poems too which are, of course, hugely inspired by the Chinese. I was wondering if that's on your radar at all? It's always a pleasure to have your videos come up, all the best.
Yeah, I love Hinton's work! Read everything. Trying to interview him sometime for the channel. Thanks for all the support and kind words. The book will be out sometime in 2024. If want more content on Modernist poets I rank them here th-cam.com/video/NVmekFz7fxE/w-d-xo.html
This gives a lot of weight to _The Outer Dark_ , Blood Meridian and _All the Pretty Horses_ and the Border Trilogy in general, and why his writing in these novels is so incredibly powerful. We get the view through nature, then we get the characters, sometimes by campfire, and then we retreat from them and view the scene through nature once more. Excellent connectivity to Pound, to Chinese poetry and back to McCarthy. This helps a lot and proves all the more that McCarthy was an extraordinary talent whose delvings into writing by various roads produced some of the most magnificent literature the American canon has to offer. I'm curious if you've read Faulkner's _As I Lay Dying_ and what you think of the poetic interludes in Darl's chapters and where Faulkner may have earned some of his poetic inspiration.
The poem you read by Pound is narrated by a wife whose husband has been forced to go work on the Great Wall. Men were forced to work on it for years at a time. Thousands upon thousands of men.
Usura slayeth the child in the womb It stayeth the young man’s courting It hath brought palsey to bed, lyeth between the young bride and her bridegroom
Pound keeps pounding on the issuance of money for good reason. You Yanks have 34 trillion reasons now to read The Cantos. Interest on debt now $1 trillion.

The fact that there are people out there that talk about Ezra Pound's poetry, is worth keeping faith in people. Have a great day over there.
Ezra Pound was an American political prisoner denied the right to a speedy trial and held with out conviction for 12 years.
Yes!
That's what happens when you name the Jew.

Its because he noticed things he wasn't supposed to notice.

Pull down thy vanity, I say pull down
Learn of the green world what should be thy place
In scaled invention or true artistry
Pull down thy vanity...
Wow. I'll be heading to the bookstore to add some Ezra Pound to the collection.
