- If Miriam Burbank were alive, she probably would've had a good time at her New Orleans funeral this week. She held a beer and a cigarette in her lifeless hands while propped up at a table. But's that's just the way her family said she would've wanted it. CNN affiliate WGNO reports that she's not the first New Orleanian to have an unusual send-off. In April, a local philanthropist and socialite sat on an iron bench and 'greeted' guests with champagne.

My uncle has already told all his family and friends that when he dies he wants a celebration of life. He wants people to eat, dance, drink, tell jokes and have a good time. He DOES NOT want people crying, moping around and feeling miserable. He's the type of person that enjoys life and wants other people to enjoy life too. I know some people would disagree about how he wants his funeral to be like but it's not about them.

Why do people say this is disrepectful? Everyone has their own way of doing things.. And when it comes to the dead or burials, there are so many cultures that do it different anyway.. Look up Ma'nene, or The Ceremony of Cleaning Corpses.. They actually dig up the dead relatives, wash them, clothe them, etc.. That is how they respect their dead loved ones.. Just because something is a little bit different, doesn't make it a bad thing or disrespectful.. Some may say that western traditions and cultures regarding death/dying/burial may be unusual.. Who says funerals have to be all doom and gloom anyway? I think this woman's funeral is just a little different.. Nothing wrong with that..

A lot of people are critiquing this funeral in the comments, but I'd love to have a funeral like this. No one pitying the fact that I died, and instead celebrating my life and recognizing the things i enjoyed. In my opinion, this is a very respectful funeral.

Well. To each its own. Burying your loved one is extremely personal; it's okay to say goodbye how best your family sees fit. God doesn't speak on it in the Bible and neither does man-made law. It's not my preference but I don't judge others for their choices that don't impact me.
