The fact that you pre-formed the handle before it was on the knife.......AWESOME! What was that "magic elixir" that you coated the handle with? As always nice job.

Thanks, I’m super happy with the handle too! I just used some basic olive oil and a bit of softened wax for the handle coating, and polished it off with my bench grinder. Sanding the handle up to 800 grit really helped it shine too!

@@ToddKoch Interesting combo, never thought of that. I like the profile of the knife as well it looks "mean". My son and I got into smithing at the same time. While I was busy making tools, tongs, leaf's, etc.......He would make knives. He did some out of wire cable where he would forge weld the cable together for the blade portion but for the handle he would still have it look like the cable. He would also make knifes from old wrenches that were way cool as well. Keep up with the cool projects.

That sounds awesome, I’ve wanted to try a cable wire knife for a while now but I need to figure out forge welding haha. As for the oil/wax combo, I’ve just used both separately before as finishing materials and wanted to experiment with them for this one haha. Thanks for your words of encouragement as always!

@@ToddKoch They claim you can forge weld with the hero forge. I haven't tried it yet but I've been told that the flux used will shorten the life of the refractory coating in a gas forge. We do have a coal forge or two but the closest I ever got to a forge weld was melting my work into a blob of steel. Best of luck and enjoy the Holidays.

@jeffreyjones6409 yeah I have heard that about flux. I think the Mr. Volcanos ability to forge weld is affected by altitude too (higher up = less oxygen) and I sit at about 4000ft above sea level which has affected my attempts too I think. Happy holidays to you too!

5:40 I thought after all that polishing and hard work, you took it to the belt sander and ruined the handle part lol.

What belt sander do you have?

I’ve got a 1x30 grinder by central machinery, I got it from harbor freight, it’s about $50 and really good for being such a cheap grinder
