It has a turbo 3cyl like a Koenigsegg, it has the engine over the rear wheels like a Porsche, it has a hp number that starts with a 6 like a Ford gt40, it has an automated manual like a Ferrari of the same time, it has staggered wheels like a drag car, it has a roll cage like a race car, it weighs well under 2000lbs like a lotus elise, it has a panoramic roof like a top trim Bentley, and the three lug wheels are little rotating triangles, like an rx7.

I thought the explanation story of the import would be lame. But it was worth waiting for. Good review!

Great video! I have a 2006 imported smart fortwo passion, which I inherited in Feb 2012 after my mom died in Dec 2011. Mine has the Mercedes emblem on the nose, but doesn't have the import plaque on the side. They are quite fun little cars to drive.

It actualy has a cup holder on the back of the passanger seat, if u are alone in the car and want a cup holder just fold the passanger seat and u'll see the cup holder

      Thank you so helpful

The best one is the DIESEL - which was WIDELY SOLD in Europe and Canada AND some people reported 70-80 mpg. Not kidding.
BUT - due to US emissions standards etc . . . you could not legally import them and drive them in the US ( over one year )
Although I knew a guy in the area who drove it into the US from Canada and just didn't take it back. ( over one year ).

I recently bought a smartcar (in the UK). I was looking for a diesel but they didn't come on the market very often and were routinely £1000 more than a petrol in similar condition. I'm mainly going to be using mine for relatively short trips (half hour or less one way) and I've heard the diesel economy doesn't really kick in until the engine's properly warmed up. Given the huge difference in fuel price it probably evens out for petrol for me personally.
I live in terraced housing with no dedicated parking and with the influx of commercial vehicles being parked at home over the last decade or so the smartcar is basically the only choice if you want to be able to find anywhere to park if you come home after 6pm (Which is exactly what I'm planning to do with it).

This 450 in the video is missing the biggest feature, the big round tachometer and a clock, which I call them as frog eye gauges. The central lower column actually has a modular design that you can opt for storage options, and this one clearly did not comes with the cup holder, while it has the ash tray instead.
The US version of smart is a 451 which is the next gen from 450, and specifically designed for American market. So bigger engines and faster gear response, but less quirky interior design.

European trucks fitted with auto gearboxes shift gears like the Smart in ‘auto’ mode - they drop the revs between shifts without ‘foot off’ the pedal. They are robotised manuals.

Put an Audi A6 fuel regulator in it and check performance between 30 and 60mph, never use it as an auto as they’re as quick as dog shit, use it as triptronic and they’re a hoot 😃👍🏻

Nicolas Hayek (Swatch) wasn't thrilled, how Mercedes enginnered it (no electric drive - like it was in Hayek's vision ), and he said "good bye" to this project.
The basic idea of a futuristic city car was not realized. So "technically" :-) , yes, it was german.
