Good seeing you here collaborating with Skall. Funny enough I had no idea who you were outside of TH-cam until today, you were just the cool guy I started following from back when you played D&D with Metatron. Too bad that game didn't last, I loved the crazy assortment of personalities and character concepts. Have a good day boss.
I actually didn’t know this man was in charge of Rebellion, which is pretty sick. Sniper Elite is a great series, and Zombie Army Trilogy takes those great sniping mechanics into a hilarious horror setting.
Jason is a skilled rider, but he's not horsing around! Modern History TV is a great channel and a nice companion to Medieval weapons and martial arts-focused channels, providing insight into Medieval life away from the battlefield or dueling arena.
Ive been subscribed to Modern History TV and Modern Knight for like years now without ever knowing he also was a games CEO lol, he really does keep those two worlds separate
Great surprise to see two of my three favorite youtube creators of medieval-related content doing a collaboration (the third being Scholagladiatoria). Hope to see you do more content together in the future.
An interesting statistic in the early modern period was that swords were one of the most common weapon. Not because it was the absolute best weapon, but nearly everyone carried one as a side arm. Arquebusiers, pikemen, halberdiers, archers, cavalrymen of various types, etc all tended to carry swords.
@@chengkuoklee5734 Its brobably like long dagger and knife, are just good secondary arms and you might can use in any situation. maybe it was the modern knife?!
Something that many people confuse when discussing the role and purpose of swords is that they consider the terms "secondary weapon" and "backup weapon" to be interchangeable, but they're not. If all goes well, if everything goes according to plan, then, you wouldn't need to use your backup weapon. You're supposed to rely on your backup weapon only when things fall apart, when plans go off the rails. The usage of swords in battles was very different. Almost everyone who carried a sword, in any battle, anywhere in the world, at any point in human history, would have drawn and used it as a weapon to kill one or more enemy combatants, in every battle they fought. It was not the only weapon used by a soldier, and, in most cases, it was not the first weapon to be used by anyone in pitched battle, but if it was there, it _would_ be used at some point or the other over the course of the battle. The sword was never a backup weapon. It was always carried in battle because it was intended to be used in every battle its wielder fought in. It was just not the primary weapon. The primary weapon was usually a ranged weapon or a polearm (including, lances, which, being spears, are polearms).
That flew by! To the point about why wars got fought I have always been puzzled about the Scots wars of independence. The leaders were all making speaches about "freedom" but it wasn't at all about rights for the population, it was about if taxes would go to the king in London or Edinburgh.
Man listening to this really hammered in (no pun intended) how deadly cavalry really is, and also how gruesome it is ramming a pick or sword into someone at full speed. I can only imagine how terrifying it would be to see that if you were one of the people running away in a rout.
I love that collaboration/crossover type of video, hope it will get a lot of views and you do it more often, also with other youtubers like Matt Easton!
I love both you guys! I used to watch Jason Kinglsey back in the day and his videos were awsome. Though these days I don't watch your both content as much, but I pop in every now and then. Fantastic work on historical weapons and things of that nature. Keep it up. I was actually really surprised first time I heard he owned a gaming company 😂 It's like polar opposite. Technology and medieval.
It may be out of your interest range, however have you ever thought of talking with Schwerpunkt about how your respective fields intertwine with the Art of War? I'd love to see a coop
I've watched both videos, and they are both educational AND entertaining. Glad you were both able to get together and have fun and produce a great experience. 🙂
So funny I only know Jason from Modern History TV when he's way more famous for a completely unrelated reason 😂. Either way he's still one of my favorite TH-camrs lol
The whole politician having to fight is one of the things I really found interesting about the Starship Troopers distinction between regular folk and folks that have earned the right to vote usually through service - sure the politician isn't actually going to war now, but they do at least have the experience of being the servant of their society. Knowing what it was like for them and how important this class of people - their peers are to your societies function...
The charming, friendly, even gentle Jason Kingsley calmly describing methods of brutally killing retreating soldiers is one of the more jarring things I've seen on TH-cam. Excellent stuff, as always!
Good stream. I've grown up riding horses all my life & it is quite a diff experience vs. combat/cutting in foot. One of the most important things to learn will be "the wheel" or "wheeling the horse". It helps with keeping yourself protected using the horses body & the pulling of the reigns causes the horses head to lean away from your cut. Even such small things as getting the horse to stop exactly where you want requires hundreds of hours of training between you & that horse, you shloud be best friends. So be ready for that b4 getting started. Lol
I'm glad and proud of you for trying to move out of your comfort zone. As an introvert and misanthrope myself I know how challenging and intimidating this can be, and how tempting is to just resort on "play it safe" moves all the damn time but as time goes on and I'm getting older I'm starting to think that a life of low risk-low reward cycles is not a life worth living, if it's even a life at all. We must dare.
Interesting. I'm looking forward to learning more. Warfare is inharently conservative, like a number of things where death may happen. IF you survived the first time, WHY CHANGE?
Thank you SO much. I REALLY enjoyed this! It's always great to hear discussion between people who know what they're talking about, on ANY subject. Can you do more of these, with other creators, or Jason?
I've been taking beginning polo classes lately, and the struggle to avoid hitting your horse (with a mallet in this case) is real. One of the horses in the barn is actually missing an eye due to an accident.
Really enjoyed this and have been hoping this was going to happen for a long time! My two fave historical youtubers just having a chat about swords and stuff. I Watching this I honestly could see you both going for hours and hours and only having to stop because the sun had came back up.
For anyone interested in mounted combat, Arne Koets' videos are a great source. He did one with Jason years ago and there are quite a few others. (And if you want to see beautiful horses, I can also recommend them ;) )
Well, I had to choose whose video to watch. But I will probably watch the other one eventually. Wait, it is a part one and other is a part two? Ok, then I will definitely watch it...but still a bit later
Great interview indeed! I tend to think the spear is the workhorse, yeah. It probably started before humans were a thing, and never really went away, even if the stick part is now a gun. It's up there with thrown rocks, and while you can absolutely argue about the middle stages (calling a bullet a form 'thrown metal rock' sounds kinda silly...) weapon technology starts with thrown rocks and quite possibly ends with relativistic asteroids. Which is just another form of throwing a rock.
Check out part 2 of this conversation on the Modern History TV channel: th-cam.com/video/MHbKXVnKp5s/w-d-xo.html
Awesome interview conversation!!!
Skallagrim, more content like this please, my nomination! Kim Diaz Holm, and talk about Mythology!
Rebellion also owns Judge Dredd
Didn't realise Skallagrim was a woke coward. Shame on you.
@@mattblack118 🤡
A genuine pleasure chatting with you!
Absolutely delighted to see you here on the show
So cool seeing you here!
Thank you for your time!
Likewise! :)
Thanks again for reaching out to do it.
Good seeing you here collaborating with Skall.

Have a good day boss.
The medieval cinematic universe crossovers always get my upvote.
Same!
Good to see you both together!
would be better if you were involved too matt
TWO OF THE BEST. Amazing choice for the collab
I actually didn’t know this man was in charge of Rebellion, which is pretty sick. Sniper Elite is a great series, and Zombie Army Trilogy takes those great sniping mechanics into a hilarious horror setting.
Holy crap, the collab of ages!
Modern History always has a down to earth very normal look at history.
I could listen to the two of you chat about history for hours! Again please
Damn, Jason Kingsley is actually a real modern knight. It makes sense, that this man is a CEO. After all, that man has horses to feed. XD
Except in his case it stands for "Chivalry Enforcement Officer".
Fantastic. You guys should make this a periodic thing, if possible, and willing.
😀
DUDE! What?!? How did you get with Jason Kingsley!!! Amazing video Skall! Ask why he almost always rides a white horse? LOL
Ah the colab I didn't know I needed! Wonderful stuff, and heading to part 2 now!
Collaborations with Kingsley always +1
I'm not a big HEMA person, but when I do watch it, these are the two people I watch! Awesome stuff seeing them face to face!
Jason is a skilled rider, but he's not horsing around! Modern History TV is a great channel and a nice companion to Medieval weapons and martial arts-focused channels, providing insight into Medieval life away from the battlefield or dueling arena.

I would watch more of these.
It was great seeing both of my favourite medieval dudes talking together! I hope it happens again.

That's because there's nothing wrong about have a flat, sharp steel club with you. 💪🗡️
Yup, swords or short blade weapons are more versatile than armchair commentors thought of. It's not the best weapon, it's a good enough.

Wait.... i just put 2 and 2 together. This dude is awesome. Great episode!
I really want a full 2 hour Podcast by those two now
I love this collab, such interesting conversation
This is a podcast Id hear weekly.
Fascinating! He looks straight out of Braveheart and he's the CEO of the company that makes all the sniper games I like to play.
What a pleasant surprise! I'm a fan of MHTV as well. 👍

Thanks for keeping it real, your authenticity is refreshing
bad bot
Jason is also the co owner of 2000 ad and Judge Dredd.
Such a great collaboration! Fantastic insights into mounted combat.

Absolutely loved this.

The collab of the year!
An epic crossover! Also this is a comment for the algorithm.

This was excellent and informative. Please do more chat videos like this.
This is was the Internet was made for. Awesome.
I've been taking beginning polo classes lately, and the struggle to avoid hitting your horse (with a mallet in this case) is real. One of the horses in the barn is actually missing an eye due to an accident.
Great to see the two of you talking. Unfortunately, I'll have to wait until tomorrow to listen to this.
Excellent vid!
That was awesome, great pleasure to listen to you both.
Pls make this a somewhat regular thing!❤🎉
Two legends in one video makes for a doubly awesome video.

Very interesting conversation.
What a great watch this was and so educational, listening to people who know history and are passionate about it is one of my favorite things.

Him: the games industry is not that happy at the moment
Me: take that unity
Rebellion's not that happy at the moment either so he's one to talk.
Nice!
Such a treat. Couldn't have imagined a more interesting pair of videos.
This was brilliant, another please :)
Great interview indeed!

Wouldn't mind seeing more videos like this :)
crazy how I got to the same conclution about mechs while doing my daily walk.
Awsome collaboration!
Oooh, an interesting guest! Sniper Elite was probably the only FPS shooter game I can tolerate with my general motion sickness.
