We used to play this game on a LAN years ago. One of my friends liked to build up an army that was basically a group of infantry that went around killing everything. As a counter I made a few of these desolators and used their area poison function. His gang of infantry went in for the attack on the desolators. In a short time all of his infantry died. He was not happy. It was hilarious.
@@oykel4089 Well the actual reason would be, because in RA3 nuclear weapons dont exist, Desolator radiation weapons wouldnt exist too so thats why its some corrosive goo now.
iirc, in the old RA2, if you make him attack on the ground while using his AoE, he'll pump it out even faster and they'll all stacks. Even Apocalypse tank couldn't survive that Suck they patched that out in YR though
If you stand him up and move him just a touch (not far, literally anywhere) then have him deploy again. Hell radiate the area again and it will stack even more
@@genrr2361 You forget about AOE range diminishing within time until he "desolate" land once more. It's not about dmg stack, it's about max dmg Aoe-range :) Maybe 2 is enough to fill that gap, but 3 is 100% sure fill that gap.

These vids remind me of when I used to play with my friend, we'd spend so long building up massive armies to fight each other that the game would usually crash before we actually managed to fight
It makes sense for 1 desolator to fail where 10 would succeed. All 10 damage stack and even if you space out the attacks, you can set it up so there are no deadzones in the melting.
That is why desolators is my all time favorite infantry in RA2 THIS PRIME EXAMPLE OF THERE GREATNESS. In RA3 there even more deadly there new attacks an abilities are insane they would nuke 5 brutes easy.

It does. When playing against full map of AIs I would often set a "training camp" for my infantry. I leave the enemy with just their barrack and a harvester and refinery. Set up kill squads next to the barrack and presto. I only use it to train certain units though, namely Desolator, Tanya, Sniper, Virus, Boris, Mirage, IFV, Battlefortress and Siege choppers
Who would say Desolators are useless? The are the most OP infantry unit in the game by a fair margin. There is a reason why almost every serious Soviet player picks Iraq.
It wouldn't help. Unless the guy is posting from a computer he had back when Red Alert 2 came out it should be well and beyond what is required for the game to run smoothly under any circumstance. Sometimes the game/engine isn't built for what is being done. I think you right though that the damage is tied to FPS.

My cheeky play would always be iron curtains and nuke trucks. Nothing watching there life ebbs away from their eyes as the trucks get into position

I think with multiple desolators, if they are not deployed at the same time, but deployed with a time gap instead, the results could be even better.
The strength of mind of that single desolator keeping his raygun deployed instead of trying to escape, truly admirable
For something inspired by Hulk, the Brute is surprisingly weak towards radiation.
It would have been an interesting mechanic if radiation empowered them.
I guess that explains why they changed it to toxic waste in RA3

Fun fact: You can increase the number of times a desolator uses its ground attack by forcing him to attack a nearby patch of land.
I knew that once it's stack, it's very difficult for Brutes to even approach them. You should also have done 5 of them besides jumping straight to 10.
3 is enough i guess, if not placed to Aoe at the same time :)

I love how the pattern of the brutes are shaped like an iron cross, but if the pattern is from the radiation symbol, that would be ironic.
The Desolators are arranged in a trefoil pattern when there's 10 of them.

The crazy part is in an actual match you only ever need one or two in any one area.

Desolators are quite the strong unit, even damaging tanks with the aoeeffect, those units are almost overpowered
Desolators are overpowered form them on perimeters to stop infantry tanks and allied spies
That's why they should have been Soviet's Chrono legionnaire-equivalent accessible to all Soviets, especially in Yuri Revenge.

i have special modified Psychic Dominator to control all units on screen(not map), after that i use 'Y' key. In some cases, i count also
