I played him with a rush army mostly of dragon princes + dragons. It was a ton of fun and worked out well on Hard - Hard. Also is was very different and more interesting compared to the usual HighElf archer spam.
Playing on legendary that's a bit too heavy on the cost side for my style, but 1-2 Dragon Princes is an overlooked asset that early! Despite the trusty spears & bows, in any army having a couple of mounted units can be the difference. Cheers for watching, I have plenty other vids on the Prince of Caledor!
@@ElvenPlotArmour Definitely I could not afford any other armies for a long time. However that full frontal massed elite cavalry +dragon charge will run over and panic almost any force (on hard). It’s also a fun departure from: “infantry in the center + cav on the flanks to hammer and anvil” aka the traditional total war formula. I later had to send Imrik to Ulthuan to save it from an epic Dark Elf invasion, while managing several tier 1 armies to defend his gains over there as well as back home in the wastelands. Was one of the best campaigns in WH2 I've played so far ( ~1000 hours).
I've only got a couple of videos left on the High Elves then we're hitting Dark Elf season. Because of the depth of these guides I'm afraid I could miss out on detail so I'm focusing on a race at a time to ensure completeness in the guides. I plan to cover every faction, apologies if it takes a while to get to your fav. Anyone you're hanging out for?
love the content! are you going through all the LLs or just the ones you like/ factions you consider yourself good with? Looking forward to future videos!
Appreciate the support, thanks. The current plan is to run through a race at a time, research and test it intimately then do all the lords. The level of depth means I think the best quality will come from devoting completely to a race before moving onto the next, but I plan to cover every lord before moving onto the next race, regardless of popularity :)
Just beat tyrion into confederation(there's guide on how to do it with any high elves lord). That's the only viable way to catch him. In my opinion this should be done as soon as possible(because of his amazing diplomatic perks) , perhaps right after confederating averlorn. Edit: this can be extremely difficult to achieve especially in early game, but I don't think it's impossible.
Cheers for sharing, that strategy can work, but I excluded it from this guide as the longterm result is sub-optimal result to confederating by opportunity or simply waiting. Regardless, I'm glad it's working for you and wish you a great campaign! Declaring war on Tyrion can confed him, but there is a knock-on effect not widely discussed. Dedicating an army to besiege a HE settlement then raising the forces needed to inflate the BoP redirects military away from expansion and funds away from expanding your holdings. Combine this with Lothern being damaged instead of letting the AI's superior growth boom the settlement to T4-5 for you ends up slow you down. Tyrion's diplomacy perks are awesome, but Imrik doesn't really make use of them since he can just dump influence and still confed a new lord every few turns and still use less influence than what it takes to beat Tyrion into confederating. The final knock-on effect is the Dark Elves can literally conquer Ulthuan if it's too preoccupied by civil war. You can take Lothern earlier but the real life time it takes to fight all of these battles in both territories is certainly a commitment. A great alternative is to use your influence to sabotage tyrion's relations with the other Elves on the island so you get the confeds. By steady progression you'll obtain him and all his holdings at max tier :) Again, thanks for sharing and hope your campaign goes well!
@@ElvenPlotArmourAppreciate your response. I largely agree with your opinion. However maybe I just hold grudge against him , cuz in so many of my earliest HE campaigns tyrion just refused to join my cause in the late game as the last independent legebdary lord even though I have accomplished every goal and occupied every territory possible to an asurian. He just managed to stubbornly cling onto that annoying bit of faction strength and territory thanks to the AI cheats, making confederating him as a friendly (defensive) ally nigh impossible. Therefore I had to beat him into submission, and when I finally got him it quickly made clear to me that the struggle outweighed the reward, since he had been leveled up incorrectly and most of his benefits have lost their values at that point of the game( such as the diplomatic boost with other HEs). Then again I was inexperienced and wasn't aware of the significance of unlocking coastal trade routes as imrik(instead the allies occupied them), thereby subsequently lost a lot of money I could had used to bribe tyrion.
@@Icannothandleany Imrik's arrogance definitely bites him when it comes to Tyrion haha. I believe this modifier exists because you could quite easily use Imrik's starting army (which is very strong) and raise your first dragons easily confed at a crazy rate, thus nullifying the campaign's challenge. That's my theory and I know I could break this to pieces so I agree with it being there. Tyrion is definitely hell to confed sometimes, as with my other guides, the crucial part is to stop him expanding and sabotaging his confeds as once he gets a certain size it's horrendous. I've played both ways, and truth be told, the most fun campaign I've had was doing the campaign in 2 parts. (1) dominate the south - do it well, get those gold mines and you'll have the funds to confed him or pen him in with confeds) (2) Confed Tyrion maybe turn 80 and recapture the donut.... I rehire imrik at the donut and summon my new pets for appropriate vengeance. Total geek moment, but spending the time in hell and returning with the goods to free Ulthuan feels pretty epic.
I'm focusing on guide for the upcoming weeks but the plan is to regularly stream sooner than later on TH-cam. For now i stream on Twitch irregularly, but feel free to add me, would be great to see you on there!
This is for Mortal Empires, which combines the first 2 maps. You'll be playing the Vortex map. For that I have a livestream that lands you a great defensive start by taking Khemri in 6 turns. As an Imrik main, I highly recommend copying my first 6 turns from this stream and enjoy a goldmine, trade and a defensive location ;) th-cam.com/video/9bfefsyEKic/w-d-xo.html
@@ElvenPlotArmour Thanks for your reply! I am new to the series but i did play Rome Total War alot. I was curious, i tried the same strategy as the video you advised, however i meet Setha + the Prince lord in garrison which culminate in a huuge army in Khemri. How do i deal with that? My Archers simply run out of ammunition by the time i cleared the defence and they have reinforcements gather at the victory point that i cannot defeat.
@@originalcaly Have a look at the live stream it's not the easiest task - the tip is to take your archers off "fire at will" and use Imrik or a fast unit to bait out the enemy artillery ammo first. Then move up from the left corner and pick them apart, using carefully placed 'burning head' spells to their lower armour units (which will also save your ammo. If their characters are moving, don't target them, save your ammo! If you're newer to High Elves I'd recommend Tyrion who is an excellent Vortex Campaign and is the best to confed all the lords. Otherwise, good luck because once you get this settlement you'll be well setup with your trusty goldmine!
@@ElvenPlotArmour I havnt tried the fire at will tip, ill give it another shot. Thanks again for your response and for the videos. They are great information. ;)
Waiting with dragons and doing all in 1 turn is a scam and a flex. It is useless. They are so easy that doing the first two by at latest turn 30-40 is extremely important for getting power fast.
In WH3 I agree but on WH2 it greatly depends on the difficulty. The campaign starts under a fair bit of heat so taking the time to replenish after the battles. The other factor is the upkeep of the dragons will slow raising a second army and pressing in another direction. If you're unlucky enough to get several hostiles this can be the difference between expanding and defending. Even with the dragons your mage and archers are able to kill anything and they really don't help you win anything you couldn't otherwise win cheaper. If you lose your mage early I'd agree getting the dragons ASAP is vital.
I really like your style of vids. Tons of effort, some nice edits and advanced tips. Keep it up.
