I like the device. The heft and size of the G50 is just solid and reassuring. People oftentimes complain about Nokia that they make barebones devices. For me that is a plus, not a minus. I get a simple, straightforward device that is user friendly with an accessible UI, stock software and specs that are calibrated just rightly to assist me in whatever tasks I need to be perofm daily. That may not sound overly exciting, but for me it's just right. I found that oftentimes the more bells and whistles a device has the more problems and issues it comes with or develops later on. Unless you have particular needs as a user, there is absolutely no reason a Nokia device couldn't satisfy most people's needs. I don't have to mortgage my home or sell my kidney to buy a Nokia device. Think about it, only a few decades ago a smartphone was still the stuff of science fiction. These days most of us carry one in our pocket. I don't know about you, but there's little to complain about on that front. My device helped me through this pandemic in many ways and assisted me with stuff that even 10 years ago I couldn't have completed remotely...

My wife is an Apple lemming. She talked me into buying an iPhone. I hated that phone from the first day I bought it. Since it was expensive, I thought I would get used to it. After a year, I hated it even more. I replaced the iPhone with the Nokia G50 and I am quite happy with it. The G50 does everything I need and it does it well. I had to charge the iPhone every day. I charge the Nokia once a week.

The snapdragon 480 processor is good enough to give the user very good experience even in games ,my snapdragon 460 wich is much weaker than the 480 is giving me a decent user experience and gaming experience call of duty mobile run smoothly at low graphics and high frame rate and I'm very happy with my choice to buy the 3.4 from Nokia🥰🔥

I've been using the G50 for a few days now. Decided to pick one up as a last ditched attempt with HMD. My experience with the X10 was a shambles. I have to say you are right, it ticks all the basics. It's not going to replace my 11 pro max, but it's great as my work phone. It really does do everything well enough. I don't even find the screen res that much of an issue. I have the 4gd ram model and it's running fine. It's a beast but it made well and I'm so glad that macro camera is gone. I like it and I think it's a well balanced device. Very capable device indeed. Good video as always.

Thanks! I'm surprised about your experience with the X10 because I haven't had issues with it. I think you previously explained that you had an issue with carrier settings for your network, but was that not fixed?

    • @kirkjolevski6957

The white X10 is my favourite current device. I got the G50 but sold it shortly after, too expensive for what it is. Even if you get it cheaper (which I did), the long screen makes the larger than average chin look even fatter. Then there is the resolution, nothing over 6.5" should be HD. I did love the design and build though.

@@kirkjolevski6957 It's baffling that they still use HD+ displays on such a massive screen when the first Nokia 6 already had a 1080p screen.

@@AbdullaZaki yes data connection was never resolved. I manually set everything in the end and it would work briefly but stop after a day or 2. I also had a problem with streaming Google tv and BritBox. Streaming wasn’t that acceptable on Disney+ or Discovery+ either. Sent it back twice and the 2nd time the motherboard was replaced. But it still had the exact same issues. In the end I sent HMD/Nokia video evidence. In the end I got a full refund. The G50 has been green light out of the box. Not one issue at all. There’s the very odd slight stutter, but we have to be real with the SD480 and 4gb ram. Maybe I was very unlucky. But I’m saying that it’s not the first time I’ve had issues with other Nokia phones. In HMDs defence, they really do try to help and will just replace free off charge just like Apple.

I'm playing with my g50, and I noticed that the post processing is amazing.
You can adjust the brightness after the fact, as well as contrast and white point and black point. You can add warmth or sharpness in post. It also allows you to adjust saturation.
There is an option to take raw photos as well.

Great review. thank you very much for spending time on detailing the performance, with visual representation onscreen. You wouldn't believe how many reviewers skip this, which is laughable. How the phone performs (while switching between apps, scrolling crowded web pages etc) is very important when it comes to the budget phone experience

Mr. Abdulla. Thank you for this review! Now, I am decided to get a Nokia G50 for myself. Haptic feedback is not a big deal. For the 720p resolution, that is enough for me! And it has its own advantage especially when it comes to battery life. 1080p and 720p doesn't have a very huge difference. Just like in watching videos and movies. Yes, there is much more pixel density on the 1080p, but if you are not going to focus on that, 720p has a good quality.
When it comes to other things like camera and performance, if you think it's good, I would trust you on that. Thank you for a detailed review. Keep up the good work!

SD480 and 5K mAH battery is a very good combo + the camera (especially if adding GCam) looks promissing, so if you like the phone, it should do a good job for you BUT I have to say that by now this 2019 front design makes it just sad to see that Nokia has this very outdated front design, only the 2020 iPhone SE looks more horrible and pathetic when it comes to outdated looks... + HD screen with no OLED or 90 Hz is also a drawback by now which Nokia somehow does not understand....

Night mode only works on the main rear camera and the selfie camera too (although results from the front camera in low light aren't great). In terms of usable performance, it actually feels slightly more smooth than the X10, probably due to less pixels on the screen being moved around by the processor. Speed and gaming is very similar. Screen feels more responsive than 5.4

@@EsteBandido_YT Me, and my family have had Motorola Moto E/G series phones before this as our main Android phones(I keep a $40USD Alcatel running Android 10 GO Edition as my family's emergency backup device), so I can't personally comment on any other phones with NFC readers, as that's one thing Moto always seems to leave out of their budget/mid range devices, but yes so far here in the US for places that accept NFC tap to pay the experience has been really good in my first week of using it with Google Pay, and just one of the reasons I choose to replace my Moto G power 2020(battery life was starting to be all over the place) with a G50 over something like a Moto G power 2021 or 2022.

So I like it very much. I would just like to know how the G50 compares to the X10? Because this is what I'm using right now. I like the larger display and that the macro camera is finally gone. Can someone help me?

  • @haziqsembilanlima
    @haziqsembilanlima 2 ปีที่แล้ว

that's a nice surprise. didn't expect the display actually has advantages instead of just being big. hmd these days makes up the big size for heat dissipation compared to my Nokia 5 2017 that always heats up just by turning on mobile data
I'm not sure how useful is that super battery saving given Stamina Mode on Sony devices that I used to own do nothing. Maybe it's actually a hint of AMOLED/OLED returning as that's the kind of display that can take advantage of it. Imagine all you need to do in low battery scenario is waiting for critical messages and replying without fully unlocking it, that full black would help power saving.
Still, the downside is sourcing of durable OLED/AMOLED causes a significant premium which I'm not sure if it'll work for spec-to-price conscious folks as they are spoiled with BBK phones. I'm fully aware that higher than usual price for hmd stuff has its own upsides. decent IPS LCD is rare among budget phones, no ads in package installer and I'm responsible for my own bloat. That last point is important as hmd still makes a lot of preinstalled google and partnered apps removable, not to mention some of them are literal stub packages. Forgot to mention that properly sending bug report to them actually resolves bug even for burner phone like 1.4

My experience has been frustrating. Tried to get Messages from Nokia 1.3 to Nokia G50, many hours, many emails to Nokia Service, even taken it to a Tech Team member at a major store, and still cannot get the Messages app across. Cannot even take off a Lock screen that I put on thinking I might need it. Again the tech man could not do it, and thought it rather strange. I am really sorry I bought a Nokia, the local fixit mobile phone store told me I was silly to buy a Nokia - old system and others have better, more modern operating systems.

Before watching this video, wanna say, my Mum had an aging Samsung J5 (5" screen 1.5Gb Ram 8Gb Rom, SD410 Android 5.1 Lollipop - for some reason It wouldn't upgrade to Android 6 Marshmallow)), and wanted a new phone max spend £200.. She also did hint at wanting a tablet too (Hmmm could this be a sort of solution to both needs for her? (She being 70) So, quick research, and I DO mean quick research, I told her to go for this one rather than the Moto G50 (STILL don't understand why the same model Name??)..
Anyway... Let's watch the video and, see if I was right.... 🤔🤔🤔
Well, Seems like it was a good choice for her. Large enough screen for her to use as not just a phone with larger screen (giving her naturally a larger keyboard as she found the 5" screened keyboard was just... "Too small") and a 'Pocket Tablet' (?) say? Do her emails, web browsing, Facebook with friends, recipes (yeah lol), Navigation (Waze) and occasional media consumption. The one she's got (here in UK) is the, ahem, 'Pinky' coloured (lol) 4Gb/64Gb version..
She's already used to Nova Launcher (more customisations etc), so, like my Moto G9 Plus, and most of my friends (who aren't tech savvy say) and have asked me to set up their phones in a clear, simple and easy to use way.
I've already sourced a download site for the stable/working GCAM mod for her too for this Nokia G50, to maybe get her more a good solid 'quick point and shoot' type pictures, better low light pics and more capable HDR abilities etc known to be gained from the Gcam mod... (Abdulla... A possible thing you could do for a future video? Comparisons between the built in Camera App and Gcam Mod on Nokia phones? 🤔)
The peace of mind for me with her having this one.. Is, the 5,000 MAh battery, software support (AGAIN UNLIKE MY MOTO G9 PLUS!! Grrrr 😒), a tough-ish build, and Nokia reliability, as, like her old phone, she wants to keep it for as long as possible...
Looks like it should do the job alright... 🤔😏
Again fella... Tidy video 👍👍 😎🇬🇧
