That was stunning.... and that dress... looked so amazing during the turns... props to the costume designer! Stunning sets, beautiful music by Lehar & two amazing dancers... Fantastic...Thank you so much for sharing, that was bliss 💖🌹💖🌹💖
How does one go through life having heard some of the most beautiful music in the world and not know where it came from. Thank you for this beautiful ballet piece with music I have always loved and been ignorant of its origins.
Lisa Pavane was a spectacular dancer. So much charisma on stage, and with Steven Heathcote, they had a chemistry during this particular production. I wish I could have seen more of them dancing together. This was the only year they were at the Australian Ballet together. (1993)
saw Fonteyn perform this role here in Australia in 1976 - the amount of porteur-ing (my word!) suited her then - a fond farewell for my seeing her on stage.
At 2:00 this Merry Widow dance contains all the ingredients that projects the epitome of all close relations between a man and a woman where bodies and soul meet to become united to produce more than what music and a dance ever could.
Great mastepiece. Great tribute to humanity. Lisa Pavane is a goddess. As I write this, Lady GaGa has 20 million hits, Lisa Pavone has two thousand. There has to be something wrong with humanity.
Lisa Pavanne, that's it - we were talking about Lisa Pavanne. She's more than a routine ballerina in that she was a businesswoman and Director of the Sidney Ballet for many years. She eventually moved to London and took over control of the London Ballet. If you remember my comments on Rembrandt, if we do some homework about the work we're about the see/hear, it's much more rewarding. Remember Bethsheba holding David's letter dejectedly. In the following scene from Lehar's Merry Widow, the subtitle is “Count Danilo and the Merry Widow realize they've fallen in love.” This is important to know in that in the first 15 seconds we see Lisa's feminine reaction: she realizes that love is wonderful but it's a life-changing event, filled with new feeling and emotion -- and above all responsibility. Notice the first seconds of the video how a great artist conveys these sentiments without saying a word. She gives in to the emotion and enters a new world defying gravity, literally.
Сильное впечатление от прекрасного воплощения балетным дуэтом экспрессивно-утонченной музыки Ф.Легара в ее оркестровом развитии с яркими кульминациями.Спасибо!

I saw this production live with this cast. It was simply fantastic. I have the DVD and its one I revisit often. I saw a more recent version of the same production with a different cast and it just wasn't the same. They were very good but it didn't have the spark of this one.
I just love this pas de deux. Such a shame about this version of Hannah's costume though. Thankfully they went back to following Desmond Heeley's original design more closely after this. Not a patch on Heeley's original design.
This is a brilliant and successful ballet version, passionate and elegant, it really should be performed more often on stage.

playing it. Dancing superb. Romantic etc.
Stunning production, the sets are opulent, the costumes are beautiful and the choreography and dancing is exquisite. The four leads are faultless.

This ballet has to be one of the most enjoyable in any company's rep! Why is it performed so seldom?
Just surreal. Stupendous!!!
Beautifully stunning! OMG!

People who made 14 dislike (till now) are not only deaf and blind but I think they miss the whole set of five senses.
