I have a love/hate relationship with this game. I purchased it early access on Steam, and went though about 3/4 through the Merchant storyline. The setting and branching storytelling is absolutely amazing, immersive, and grounded, but the gameplay... oh the gameplay. I just hated how the game was centered on min-maxing to pass skill checks you have no way to prepare for except by save scumming. It felt like it punishment for the sole purpose of showing off how difficult it was. Every few months, I try to give it another shot because the writing is so, so good, then stop a few hours later out of frustration.
I've had this game on GOG for a long time, I think it was free at one point? Never really got around to playing it because I couldn't get it to work on my Thinkpad when I was out of town and promptly forgot that it existed. Makes me want to check it out properly.
That gameplay sounds terrible. Like an RPG version of those Sega FMV games (Time Gal, Night Trap) where you have to keep dying to know what button to press next time. I don't get how that trial and error could be enjoyable over requiring certain party members combinations to hear their optional dialogue options.
Nice, can't wait to sit down and watch this with my morning coffee.

It does appeal to a niche crowd. That said, I cheated like mad and enjoyed the hell outta the story.
