There's a little more work to do from my understanding but Steve is working hard to get this out to everyone! I've also made the Cthulhu mod public and you'll find it's download link in the description, It only works with the Legacy branch right now so keep that in mind!!
Thank you Anth for helping with this project. There is indeed a lot of interesting things planned to be added and we aim to release this mod for 2.0! The name of the creature will most likely be "Podshell Leviathan" and the cinematic trailer of the mod will be posted on my channel 👀
Podshell? That actually makes sense. I was gonna suggest the Tortuga Leviathan- and yes before anyone asks, yes the moment I saw giant turtle, my mind instantly went to Wild Kratts for some reason.
Ah yes, the soviet tactic; throw untrained, unexperienced conscripts at the enemy until they drown in the blood. Let's see if Cthulu is as vulnerable to this venerable stratgy as the Germans were.
He's Cthulu, he's a Lovecraftian deity. I highly doubt he'd succumb to something so human-like, as in something only _humans_ would resort to. We need something more.
Name suggestion: "The Zaratan Leviathan". Based on the mythological giant turtle that could be mistaken by an island. Plot Suggestion: if it is big enough or lives with numerous other individuals of its species, it could be used as an explanation to "How the Gargantuan Leviathan sustains itself?"
Yes! But the eggs on the back remind me of the Pipa Pipa frog.. so why not the Pipazaratan? Reference to both while still not sounding like something from earths history
"Dermochelys Leviathan" based off the leatherback sea turtle (which seems to be most of the inspiration for it). Dermochelys is the genus that the leatherback is a member of. The name doesn't roll off the tongue as well when included with the word "leviathan", but still has an intimidating factor to it.
They have 3 of them already in game tho so it's not like everything is, and considering the biggest and most powerful leviathan is peaceful I don't think it's that bad.
I reckon we could name this Turtle... Moriashell. Moria is the name of a Turtle Island from the NeverEnding Story. And well, since most animals in Subnautica is named after their characteristics, abd this turtle have their shell for exceptional feature... What do you think?
finally, someone who doesn't name a creature after what it does. I've seen to many people call it the mother shell (and it isn't really creative at all) i like the suggestion though!! mine was Tortuga or the tarrypin leviathan (Tortuga being Spanish for turtle and tarrypin based of the br'er tarrypin)
While yes some of the names are based off of the creatures characteristic like for example gasopods, and bonesharks or sandsharks, biter and eyeye or peeper, some are based on the creatures that exist in real life that they were based on, so their real life counter parts and their names or genus or scientific names like for example the "Pinnacarid" which is a combo of names based on prehistoric and modern creatures that both relate to the creatures characteristic which is again another combination. You can also use mythology, prehistoric creatures or even fantasy creatures created in stories like the big island turtle/world turtle. They have their own specific names too that can be used in combination.
i have a couple name suggestions. 1. The Shellback Leviathan 2. Megalochelonia (Mega for size, chelonia refers to turtles) 3. Or they could just name it after the Megalochelys, which is an extinct giant turtle
For the Leviathan that's being brought back into Subnautica, if I could suggest some names for it, I'd call it the "Hammer Back" leviathan, "Shell Spawn" leviathan or the "Bulb Back" leviathan
As adorable as turtle leviathan is. Would be cool to call it “Hardshell Leviathan” fits in with naming the leviathans after their defining characteristics
I prefer the first roar. For a name I’ve got a few suggestions: Archelon leviathan - named after a large species of prehistoric sea turtle. Tank Leviathan - it’s built like a tank Piggy-back leviathan - referencing the eggs on its back.
I went ahead and Google translated some stuff such as turtle, death turtle, etc into different languages and I found this name I liked. Skilpad. Skilpad should mean Turtle/tortoise in Afrikaans, correct me if I’m wrong. Just imagine, the Skilpad Leviathan. I personally love it, I’d suggest translating some words like I did for cool names!
I think a cool name for the turtle leviathan could be Shelltur and a mechanic with the babies could be that it gets "vulnerable" cuz the eggs hatching on its back exposing the inner shell and if you help to defend it and maybe build structures on its back to protect it and its spawns and show that it can trust you it will help you when you are nearby giving you some air underwater and keep dangerous creatures away from the base u build on its back.
Got a few cool names. "Snapper Leviathan" - Refers to the fact that this big boy is very much similar to a snapping turtle "Testudo Leviathan" - Testudo turtles were the largest turtles to ever exist(That we know of) "Chonko Leviathan" - People in Chicago started calling snapping turtles "Chonkosaurus's" so why not this Chonky boy?
I loved the turtle leviathan concept art as soon as I came across it. I'd love seeing this magnificent creature finally come to life. To think that there will be a time where it will swim around in my ocean is incredible
For the turtle leviathan I feel as it’s necessary for spikes at the edges of the shell also to protect itself from predators like some real turtles do and have and whatever attacks it the foe also takes damage. For the name I think “The Incubator” sounds mysterious and cool.
Found this for that Turtle Leviathan. “the *aspidochelone* is a fabled sea creature, variously described as a large whale or vast sea turtle, and a giant sea monster with huge spines on the ridge of its back.” So maybe the “Aspidochelone Levitation”
And idea for where it should be. Lost river - in the tunnel going to the Lava zone or in the tunnel between the bitter leviathan skeleton and the Garg. Skeleton. Under the Floating island - Near the Ghost leviathan or Sea Traders.(More on the Sea traders routes idea)
I honestly feel like, since it's a giant alien turtle, it shouldn't really be roaring since that isn't really characteristic of turtles. At most hissing sounds would be more appropriate if it's gonna be an aggressive creature since that's typically what stuff like snapping turtles and such do when being aggressive.
I think the sound should have more of a snap turtle snapping it’s jaws together at the start or during the sound just to really make it distinguishable, love the echos at the end of the roars
I think the name for the turtle leviathan should be called the “Akupara Leviathan” named after the mythical world turtle. I think it deserves that name because it almost fits the description of a giant turtle.
I like the second sound for the turtle leviethan , i think it matches the creature the best hope he will be in like a sandy and island like biome as well that seems like a really cool idea
A good name for the turtle leviathan in my opinion is "Karathain" Because it seems to me that it looks slightly crustacean and the karathain is a very large similar looking monster from the deep. So i thought it would be fitting
The glowing yellow bits could be a defended measure against other leviathans like the gasopods well gas pods and this turtle could be a distant cousin of the gasopod.
The turtle leviathan looks like it would be at home in the kelp forest, but there isnt a lot of space for it. Maybe in the dunes? The babies could hang out in sand dunes after birth similar to how actual turtle babies are born.
The turtle levi looks so cool! I think everything about it is great! My name suggestion is, "Nurse Leviathan" because it takes care of multiple little babies!
Name suggestion: The Tortilus Leviathan. I kinda just came up with it. Also, as for what biomes it'd roam in, it kinda reminds me of a reefback in a way. So possibly in the grassy plateaus, underwater islands, dunes? Im still kinda new to the game, haven't completed the story, so im not entirely sure on what biome besides grassy plateaus. Keep up the great work tho!
Hmm... Just wow with the turtle sounds, but I don't think even a turtle leviathan would make such sounds. A roaring turtle just feels off, try something new and different other than the usual Subnuatica creature roars. = D Cheers everyone! - 🐧
for the turtle, I would like its color pallet or pigmentation to vary from each location, either it would be a brighter color scheme because it lives in more tropical climates or a more colorful blend due to the constant consumption of a particular food it eats. Like in real life, that can happen to us as well.
i was thinking about "the wanderer leviathan" because this thing has eggs on back and they probably hatch on back too and that would mean that they dont have one specific biome to live in but they migrate from place to place because of danger (reapers) that lurks in open biomes (dunes, mountains, grassy plateaus) because you know they need to protect eggs
Rise new monsters rise 😈😈🦑🦑 also god 9:21 they need to chill LMAO . there was alot of sus moments ( petition to add that monster to the ocean on path of titans lol)
Shelly (What im calling that turtle leviathen) looks awesome and it would make sense for it to be in the dunes, red grass biome and towards the craters edge so they are far away from most hostile leviathans but can also freely be seen
I got the translation for the eldritch speech at the beginning of the video: “The FitnessGram™ Pacer Test is a multistage aerobic capacity test that progressively gets more difficult as it continues. The 20 meter pacer test will begin in 30 seconds. Line up at the start. The running speed starts slowly, but gets faster each minute after you hear this signal. [beep] A single lap should be completed each time you hear this sound. [ding] Remember to run in a straight line, and run as long as possible. The second time you fail to complete a lap before the sound, your test is over. The test will begin on the word start. On your mark, get ready, start”
I had a feeling this leviathan was gonna be brought back and I didn’t know why but now I do! I’m so excited to see this and an idea I had was like if the eggs on the back could be plucked from the creature or like the cuddle fish, scattered eggs all over the map on some of the skeletons where you could collect eggs and raise them as your own and obviously the eggs would be on there back as well when you breed them in or outside containment. I also think it would be cool if they could revert back into their shells like some turtles when a cyclops for example is near. I know that’s a lot so if this is seen I do not expect to see it but I think personally it would be so cool so if this is looked at and read please humor my bullshit and at least consider it
7:05 Maybe the baby's will have unique behaviors to the Subs you ride in. The Cyclops they will mistake it for another adult and follow it around, until a horn has been blown. The Seamoth they'll think a toy to headbutt like soccer ball.
The turtle should be called “The Backbreaker Leviathan” because it hatches eggs on its back which breaks its back, and it also can probably break YOUR back. It should also be able to walk on land.
Steve's sounds: 10/10 would love it in any game Simon's sounds: Holy fucking shit I thought the scale was outta ten. You get 100/10. But for real, Steve has great indie energy sounds. Then when he played Simon's? I didn't even know I wanted gurgles and clicks. Mind blown
The roar sounds from Steve sound a lot more "massive" than Simon's and will make for a more thrilling experience for players who hear it for the first times
I'm still trying to prepare myself for the sight of the ancient leviathan as a straight up crustacean in subnautica 3 how terrifying is that good God O_O (I might have a heart attack seeing it up close)
I have some ideas for the turtle leviathan regarding its diet, behavior, etc - The leviathan is an omnivore. It mostly snacks on smaller creatures like fish and reapers, but the babies and juveniles like to eat creepvines before they get too large. Creepvines are considered a delicacy. - This leviathan is the only known natural predator of the reaper Leviathan, as the reaper is much smaller and can't break into the sturdy shell of the turtle. Reapers are their diet of choice. - These leviathans live out at the Dunes, the Crash Zone (the deeper areas), the underwater islands, or the red grassy area. - The reefbacks generally leave this leviathan alone and the two species rarely are seen together. - They live in groups and are very social. - They are very intelligent, like dolphins. - They can live many years, almost half a millennia. - This leviathan is not hostile unless you hurt one of their babies, or you are in a Cyclops. The player and the Seamoth are too small to waste energy on, but the Cyclops is seen as a meal. They can't eat it, but they can definitely destroy it with a few bites. - They first lay their eggs in the sands of the Dunes and then they create a sort of sticky glue that is secreted from their shells to attach their eggs. The eggs are then covered in the glue, which acts as a deterrent for predators as it tastes really bad and a sort of armor from attacks. - Males and females are generally the same size, but females weigh more as their shells are harder to easily attach their eggs to and to protect their clutch. Males have colorful spikes on their shells, kinda like a stegosaurus, to attract mates. - This species of leviathan can be somewhat tamed by feeding them creepvines, as the adults are too large to go into the creepvine biomes. After you feed them, they won't attack you even with your Cyclops and will defend you from attackers. - They can breathe both underwater and air, and sometimes they like to sun themselves by floating on the surface of the water.
The Sea Dragon hunts Reapers too. I'd like the turtle to just be harmless to the player, like the reefbacks even in the Cyclops. Not every collossal has to be hostile.
If he could make a stalking sound for the turtle that out be incredible because both already sound crazy but a stalking sound would just give someone chills
I guess many people didn't catch on to the fact that this creature has eggs or pustules on it's back which resembles many of earth creatures and their methods of carrying or hatching their young on their back. Mainly the most well known one and creepiest of all to some people is the Surinam Toad, Pipa Pipa. This toad hatches it's young from it's back by having the male fertilize the eggs it releases and than having them all placed on it's back where they are absorbed by the skin and then when they hatch they all shoot out and tear through the skin, and then the mother loses that piece of old skin and grows a new one to restart the process. Other animals that engage in this sort of thing ( not exactly the same) are scorpions and spiders as they also tend to carry their young on their backs similarly. Thus based on how Subnautica typically names it's creatures based on either their attributes/characteristics and or a combination of this and their real life counter part examples and their names or genus or even their scientific name from modern or prehistoric version of themselves. I would say that combining either the toads name like Phylum: "Chordata" which actually is the same as the turtle, this would end up being the Chordata Leviathan, or the genus of turtles or a type of turtle that this creature was based on like the Leatherback Sea Turtle, which has a number of names we can draw from like for example the name itself, Leatherback Leviathan (which also resembles Leatherback kaiju from the PR series.) or Dermochelys coriacea, Dermochelyidae and Testudines. It can even be a prehistoric or fantasy version like the world turtle and it's name. There is also the spider or scorpion combination which both have the same Phylum: "Arthropoda" but those only have 1 similarity versus the toad that has multiple ways to connect with the turtle. I saw some good examples of names in the comments but not many that really closely followed the details or naming scheme of Subnautica in a well thought out manner. Some did and they are good.
I think these turtles should have barnacles like real turtles tend to do (maybe put different corals on their backs if you're feeling fancy). I think they'd do well in kelp forests and places that have a lot of vegetation. The sounds are equal parts awe inspiring and bone-chilling. Also having small fish follow them around would be a nice touch
For a name suggestion for the Leviathan I'd like to suggest "Luminara". This name conjures up feelings of mystique and ancient power because it mixes the ideas of illumination and the sea. It depicts the creature's forgotten personality as well as the breathtaking bioluminescent eggs on its shell. (If it's not too late that is)
I like the name Voidhead for the turtle. It's reminiscent of the loggerhead which, iirc is the largest species of sea turtle. And please use the roars from Simon!! They're so amazing! Gave me chills listening to them

I'm so happy you're making this! This leviathan has always been one of my favorite designs and I'm so sad it was left out!
I think it should be called the snapper leviathan
Podshell? That actually makes sense. I was gonna suggest the Tortuga Leviathan- and yes before anyone asks, yes the moment I saw giant turtle, my mind instantly went to Wild Kratts for some reason.
In my opinion turtle leviathan should swim in dunes, underwater islands or biome with Red grass
Underwater Islands yea, i agree
Grassy plateus is the one with red grass.

For the Leviathan that's being brought back into Subnautica, if I could suggest some names for it, I'd call it the "Hammer Back" leviathan, "Shell Spawn" leviathan or the "Bulb Back" leviathan

Maybe the baby's will have unique behaviors to the Subs you ride in.
The Cyclops they will mistake it for another adult and follow it around, until a horn has been blown.
The Seamoth they'll think a toy to headbutt like soccer ball.
The name of the turtle leviathan should be: Tartaruga.
I feel like you should name it seacrusher
The turtle should be called “The Backbreaker Leviathan” because it hatches eggs on its back which breaks its back, and it also can probably break YOUR back. It should also be able to walk on land.
And it’s targeting me again… KILL IT
Steve's sounds: 10/10 would love it in any game
Simon's sounds: Holy fucking shit I thought the scale was outta ten. You get 100/10.
But for real, Steve has great indie energy sounds. Then when he played Simon's? I didn't even know I wanted gurgles and clicks. Mind blown
Name idea for the turtle leviathan: Adult Podshell.
Name idea for baby turtle leviathan: Podling.
The roar sounds from Steve sound a lot more "massive" than Simon's and will make for a more thrilling experience for players who hear it for the first times
Anthomnia "oh! I just went from white to red! I'm a lobster!!"
😂
I'm still trying to prepare myself for the sight of the ancient leviathan as a straight up crustacean in subnautica 3 how terrifying is that good God O_O (I might have a heart attack seeing it up close)
I have some ideas for the turtle leviathan regarding its diet, behavior, etc
- The leviathan is an omnivore.
I love that cut creatures are being brought to life. So for a name something like The Shell Leviathan or The Turt.
(If it's not too late that is)
I love the turtle Leviathan, it's adorable in my opinion
I like the name Voidhead for the turtle. It's reminiscent of the loggerhead which, iirc is the largest species of sea turtle. And please use the roars from Simon!! They're so amazing! Gave me chills listening to them
I just got back into playing Subnautica and decided to install a bunch of mods, its amazing to see this come out now at the perfect timing.
@Anthomnia053 There's even an Anthomnia bot? Sheesh
