Seems you are not exactly short of options when you wake up in the mood for a barbershop fragrance Lanier. Really enjoyed this and definitely tempted to buy a few of these!
Temptation is the root of all fragrance purchases. Thanks so much Mr.S. Your presence is always welcome and as bracing as a splash of Eau de Cologne in the morning.
Wow what an amazing chronology of scents...I learned a lot from watching...This is my favorite video of the tag without question...thanks for sharing your insight on this subject...
BOTH of you are something awesome and I miss seeing both of you, my friends...and Mr. Smith I feel honored to say I was with you when you bought Colonia at Barney's...
I absolutely LOVE your videos Mr. Smith. They, like you, are CLASSY. The only "problem" I do actually find in your videos is that oneself always ends up feeling the insistent temptation of buying them ALL!
Wonderful video Lanier. The picture and the intro were fantastic. As far as your collection of classics...I am incredibly jealous :) I'm all in on the classics and hope there will be a revival at some point. If we're lucky some future perfumers will come across this video and push the designer fragrance industry to return to its former glory.
I believe that in fragrance as in the fashion world things are cyclical. What's old becomes new again. I am seeing a nudge in the niche world toward a renaissance of the classics. Designer's hopefully are not far behind. Yet that is not to say that there are no great modern scents. In the niche world that is where I am finding some amazing perfumers such as Bruno Fazzolari and MikMoi just to name two of many. There are many. But the time is right for someone to break out of the pack and start a modern/classical movement. Cheers.
Michael! Thank you! I love your friendly little wink to us right before your opening music comes in! Great collection! I'm eager to try something from Floris and also Façonnable. But my favorite will always be Habit Rouge (which you did a lovely review for about a year ago or so!)! Thank you for your nice review and thank you for your appreciation for this art form. You have a way of calling us to appreciate these creations, too.
Thank you so much. Love the oldschool barbershop. Got 4711 and bought Dunhill last week and now you gave me more inspiration. So simple and so magic. Keep it up and all the best!
Great video as usual and what an exquisite collection! It’s curious that you mentioned Chanel Egoiste as a barbershop fragrance. I don’t believe i recall anyone calling it a barbershop, but now, thinking about it, Geo F. Trumper, a very traditional british gentleman's barber and perfumer has a Sandalwood based Cologne and after shave that is strikingly close to Chanel’s Egoiste. So i believe it realy makes sense looking at Egoiste from barbershop perspective. To be honest, i was a little sad to see that the my beloved Guerlain Vetiver was left out... but then, i guess your list is already huge and full of timeless classics. Thank you Lanier, for creating a constant supply of entertaining and educational videos.Cheers from Portugal.
A great video, Lanier. I always love the way that you take the time to educate us and share your fragrance journey in such a thoughtful way. Thank you, sir.
I love this video! I am a woman and have a total "thing" for barbershop scents. I love them and enjoy wearing them myself. I love all of your picks here. Love 4711 and wear it often. Adore Grey Flannel, too as I love my 1970's frags. I wear Cabochard and just put Dunhill for Men in my cart online. Can't wait to test some more of the ones you've mentioned here. Do you think you can do a video on vintages or just leathers?
Thank you so much Cynthia! I have done two videos on Leathers. Here are the links: th-cam.com/video/rJ2JGXFjOU0/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/XH3Rg31y064/w-d-xo.html and here is one I did on some Vintage. th-cam.com/video/fuSyo8WKOzo/w-d-xo.html Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Cheers!
barbershop scents like YSL rive gauche pour homme, sartorial from penhalingons, azzaro pour homme (in splash bottle), tabac edt, pinaud clubman- classic and vanilla version, brut, paco rabanne pour homme and aramis classic as well as aramis tuscany are some of the other barbershops worth checking out. cheers!
Hello Lanier, excellent video as usual. My fave barbershop is Special No127 from Floris. I know you are getting into Floris, so I think you'll really appreciate this one. Check out this backstory: 'Originally created in 1890 for Russia’s Grand Duke Orloff and named ‘Orloff Special’, Special No. 127 was introduced into the Floris range some years after his death having been renamed after the page in the ‘Specials’ formula book in which the recipe was recorded. The fragrance has become a favourite with many over the years - both men and women. A refreshing citrus blend of bergamot and orange with petitgrain introduce the heart of neroli, lavender and geranium in this floral cologne. Patchouli and musk add depth and character.' (Description from the Harrods website). I find the scent to be a clean lavender, very classy and with an aura of the refined Gentleman of equisite breeding, manners and social decorum. I hear that it was Winston Churchill's favourite scent, and it's certainly worth checking out. www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Floris/Special-127-5551.html
Now that is something I would love to smell Rorshach1004... and the story behind it is fascinating. Thanks for sharing that with us all here on the Scents Memory channel. You just made my day great and my wallet groan. LOL Cheers.
Lanier, thanks for that trip down memory lane! Oh how fondly I remember everyone wearing Grey Flannel when I was a mere pup. I do feel compelled to make a couple additions to your list however. The scent that most reminds me of the barbershop is Pinaud Clubman. Who doesn't forget being dusted with that familiar green bottle of talc after a haircut or the smell of "Dad" after shaving and splashing his face with nearly pure alcohol (MEN love PAIN!!) Clubman is a sad and sorry version of it's former self today, found only in a crappy plastic bottle on the bottom shelf at CVS...stripped of it's dignity and oakmoss by the uncaring march of time. I have a bottle in my collection, though I have given it some respect by putting it in the glass this classic deserves. Although not strictly a barbershop scent, I love those glorious Royall Bay Rhum and lime formulations that seemed to exist behind the striped pole!
Yes I know just what you mean shtupman! Why do they even bother it they can't keep Clubman in its original glory. "Time is never reasonable, Time is our enemy Caesar..."
I find it interesting that everyone that does these barber shop scent reviews have long list of designer scents. I only remember barber shops smelling like Clubman, Lilac Vegetal and bay rum and Flordia Water. They also had hair tonics like Clubman Eau de Quinine Hair Tonic, Vitalis, Wildroot and Jeris.
Hi High2hal, I remember those wonderful fragrances too. I think the idea behind this Tag to to talk about scents that recall those classic and true Barbershop fragrances. Cheers!
great lineup Lanier, lots of history and gents stuff from yesterday. spot on the massey aftershaves and the carven. also I love the caron pour homme and my top fav paco rabbane
A collection to be proud of! I really enjoyed your video, your excursus in time, and the fact you made me discover some fragrances that are out of the mainstream.
The most barbershop is Clubman, by Pinaud. It smells exactly like a barbershop, with the talcum powder, just like when you finished getting a haircut and the barber would splash this on your neck and dust talcum powder with a brush to get the loose hairs off your neck, then pull off the sheet and let you off the chair. Every time I sniff the Clubman bottle, it takes me back to the early sixties, at my uncle's barber shop in Key West, where I lived at the time, in my teens . Now I'm going to watch Follow the Fleet, with Fred & Ginger !
Amazing collection! But my poor barber only had 2 of those, 4711 and Acqua di Parma Colonia and you paid $.50 extra for 2 spritzes of AdP or Rive Gauche pour homme. He kept them in atomizers. His freebees were the 4711 or Pinaud Clubman and Bay Rum.
For me, the true classic barbershop frag is Tabac Original from 1955, the floral vanilla and spice notes are perfect. I also think Newport and No.6 by Caswell Massey are great as well.
I remember 4711! it was hugely popular in Australia in the 1970s. Women and men both wore it. I bought Tsar and Pour Homme at your recommendation and I regard them as sublime, not to mention absurdly cheap given how beautiful they are. Thank you for the video!
Yes Daniel Tsar is sublime and a must have for any fragrance connaisseur. And yes very inexpensive, they are practicality giving it away. Cheers Dear Daniel.
Thank You, Mr. Smith for including Houbigant's wonderful selections, which just so happens to remind me of my Uncles also. I wondered if any if the best representations of lavender scents would make this list being that it's not a prefered note of yours? MDCI Invasion Barbare or Amouage Sunshine Man? Which oddly enough never gets described as a barber shop scent??? Hmm.. At any rate. Always enjoy your post. Continued Success. And I concur, "wear what YOU, love... and not what others say you should like!"... Respects
Mosiah thank you so much for this simply charming comment. You know it is true that I have trouble with Lavender but of late I have been learning an appreciation for this note. In particular in a new scent I have just acquired, Eau de Cartier Cartier. (Unboxing coming up next on that one.) Cheers my friend.
Whenever you are showing any perfume you must write the name of the particular perfume on the screen please that particular perfume name on the screen please it can be helpful for us
I took a lighter to the Chicago Dunhill shop for warranty repair about thirty years ago. There was a Dunhill for Men tester on the counter, so I tried a few sprays. I haven't been without it since.
I am so glad you mentioned Floris Palm Springs. I fell in love with It at first sniff at Indigo Perfumery near Cleveland. Stunning and beautiful. I will be buying a bottle and wearing all summer.
Nice line up! I got duc ve vervins l'extreme coming in today! Very excited. My favorites are Eau Sauvage Parfum by Christian Dior(2017),Aramis by Aramis and Azzaro pour homme. I like Quorum edt, Pasha de Cartier edt, Safari by Ralph Lauren, Legasi by Armaf, eau de Passion Men Intense by Franck Olivier, Vetiver edt by Guerlain, and Drakkar Noir. Barbershop scents are so underated and hated lol. Stetson after shave is awesome too, really does cool my face after a shave! Thanks for sharing!
If you like Grey Flannel, definitely give Ombre de Hyacinth by Tom Ford a try. Personally I don't see what the controversy is all about. Maybe I am biased because Grey Flannel was the very first scent I ever bought as a teenager so it has a rooted place in my heart...
Thanks for the heads up Vincent! I certainly will. Give my love to the gang at Tigerlily and all our wonderful friends at Neiman's, and Barney's. Cheers.
Great list man. So many hidden gems, thanks for shares it with us. My fav barbershop cologne is a Azzaro pour homme. Stay safe and hugs from Brazil 🇧🇷👍
So many great barbershop fragrances--and many I expected to see based on your reviews---but I'm glad to see you included Monsieur de Givenchy (it's a great one...reminds me of Chanel Pour Monsieur EDP in some ways) and also Gres Cabochard. I can't believe that Cabochard gets ignored by the fragrances community. I have the EDT and EDP and love them. My God! Sure it's a women's fragrances but they are inexpensive and smell better than 99% of the men's vintage 70s through 90s colognes IMO. Enjoyed!
I can only echo your wonderful thoughts on Gres Cabochard. LOVE that fragrance and yes it needs to be "discovered" by a wider audience. Thanks so much Jim. Cheers!
Hi Lanier, i was recently lucky enough to get a tin can Rive Gauche and really love it. Just out of interest what is your opinion of YSLs original Jazz? Excellent channel. Oh and Egoiste is my favourite in my collection.
Thanks for the brilliant comment Scentinel. Would you believe it, I have yet to smell Jazz! I may have years ago and if so I have forgotten my impression. So it is high time it try it. right? Cheers.
Ciao Paolo. Oh what a great scent memory!! I love Florence and have been many times. The city to me has the most wonderful scent. It smells to me of notes of leather and flowers in the spring. (I only go to Florence in the spring!) thank you for your charming comment that took me right back to much loved Italy. Cin cin!
Ahhh, Grey Flannel, I LOVE that fragrance on a man. It's citrus/woodsy & screams "come nuzzle up to me!" Lanier I'm wondering, with such a large collection of fragrances how do you decide what to wear on a daily basis & are you ever overwhelmed by making the decision?
I have my fragrance divining rod. It works just like a water divining rod. I hold it up, close my eyes and it points to what I should wear. Actually it is mostly by feeling...."I'm feeling...Dior today!" I do divide my fragrances by Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer so that helps a great deal. Love your description of Grey Flannel. Perfectly fits the fragrance. Cheers Catherine.
Great video and presentation of classic and timeless masterpieces of perfumery Mr.Smith!!But in my humble opinion there are 5 great barbershop smelling fragrances missing for this list to be complete!!So if this was my list i'd also take in Eau Sauvage by CD,Azzaro pour homme, Paco Rabanne pour homme, Rive Gauche pour homme by YSL and Duc de Vervins by Houbigant.Best regards to you from a big Greek fan of yours!!
What a wonderful assortment you have there. I really enjoyed this...even made a cup of coffee to sip as I watched. Thank you. If I may add a few that I enjoy very much to your awesome list. Azzaro Pour Homme & YSL Rive Gauche. And for some reason Lagerfeld Classic reminds me of the Barber Shop on the dry down.
Well, I can't truly explain it but this must be one of my top fragrance genres! LOL! ... - because, imo, no collection is complete without 4711(I LOVE eau de colognes and all their variations), I'm never without Grès Cabochard, love the Caswell and Massey men's scents (I often buy the soaps), just got Houbigant Fougere Royale about a month ago, I own Grey Flannel, adore Corso Como original. (haven't smelled Uomo.), love Floris as a Line (most of the pre-reforms are complete stunners), love Geo F. Trumper, the Sandalwood is amazing! Many notes that are labeled "male-centric" are amongst my faves. Could also be my English roots as British Houses seem to (correct me if I'm wrong) do many "Barbershop" scents. Plus, as we know, I'm completely mad for the classics. Lovely mentions, Lanier! :)
How wonderful ! Thanks very much for this review Lanier. Barbershop scents are what really get me going in the world of fragrance. I shall be watching this a few times with interest. Do they all class as fougeres?
Thanks Paul, No they are not all Fougeres which are classically called barbershop. There are some leathers, and Woody Spice fragrances in there too. As I mentioned not all of them might be considered Barbershop Fragrances buy some people but to me they fit the bill. Cheers!
Ok Lanier, thanks. I'm glad you have included the much maligned 'Grey Flannel'. A thumbs up from such a fragrance reviewing notary as yourself redresses the balance somewhat against the toxic climate against it. I'm wearing it at the moment and really do appreciate it. Look forward to your review of it.
This is your cousin Hitz. Thanks for showing a photo of Grandpa Bill. I enjoyed your review of barbershop scents, but you must have gone to a lot of fancier barbershops than I did. It was Old Spice, Lucky Tiger, or Jockey Club by Pernoud (a drugstore scent that is sold in plastic bottles at CVS and which I still use---I'm cheap). Which Uncle Bud were you referring to? Uncle Bud A or my D. Dad usually wore English Leather or Brut. But you have to remember that he always had the scents of Bering cigars on him and machine shop on him....Thanks, again. I enjoyed your piece. I hope that someday you'll do a piece on Habanita and Tabu. One is relatively cheap and the other is just plain cheap. But they both have in common that when they were first brewed they were meant (according to my reading) to be rather dark and smoky. Almost Ava Gardener-like in The Barefoot Contessa. My M said that when they were young your M's favorite perfume was Tabu. My M liked Heaven Scent. As an adult my M liked Shalimar and White Shoulders. Her taste never really changed. And don't forget Uncle Bud A bringing gift sets for our Ms and Granny of Evening in Paris.. Luv ya cuz, Hitz
Hey, Cuz! After thinking about I think that Grandpa Bill would have probably gotten a splash of Bay Rum at the barber shop. Can't go wrong with the classics. I like your perfume series...Hitz
I really liked this video it was very educational, have you tried some of the more modern barbershop fragrances like beau de jour, sartorial and rive gauche pour homme?
great collection and review dude you got them all there is 1 more YSL re gosh brown tin bottle from the 90s discontinued that is 1 great barbershop frag
pls do grey flannel. the key is use a touch (2 sprays on skin in cold weather only) like joop homme (another love/hate). beautiful scent- grey flannel!
You bet I will Chad and you are so very right on the application. Two to go and you are in the know. Or, to be in the center, two sprays in the winter. Cheers
Grey Flannel was the club scent of the early 1980's, as was Lagerfeld. It was trailed by Farenheit in the late 1980's. Each one of these fragrances only required a spritz or two due to their potency. I was surprised that you did not mention Dana's English Leather, a scent that could be considered a barbershop fragrance. Now that one was tricky. Either the scent agreed with your body chemistry or the wearer stunk to high heavens. By the way, you have inherited your grandfather's smile. I bet the ladies loved him, as we also are bewitched by you. :)
Yes as a matter of fact my Grandfather was adored by the ladies. And my Grandmother always used to say I inherited his personality and charm. But if you ask me I am but a pale reproduction of Grandpa Bill. Yes English Leather fits right in there and in fact I wore it in High School along with British Sterling. But alas they are not in my line up...YET! LOL. Cheers Love Is Who You Are.
I'd love to sneak a peek at that fabulous ring on your hand. And I'm simply dying to see your complete fragrance collection. (So nosy, I know. It's a character flaw, what can I say!?)
Given your love of Dunhill For Men, an excellent selection that was my signature scent for fifteen years, and Fougere Royalle, I'm surprised you didn't choose Azzaro Pour Homme or YSL Rive Gauche Pour Homme.
Thanks for another great review ! My favorites are Houbigant Fougere Royale and Dunhill Icon . I will have to get my nose on Houbigant Cologne Intense . . . Thank again Lanier ! :)
Good evening Sir, I notice your comments on other youtubers videos and have had a few conversations in the past with you in the comment sections, apologies that I have never seen any of your videos until now where you are going over a group of fragrances I am loving at the moment. My favourite at the moment is By Men D&G and YSL Rive Gauche. I have Panhaligons Sartorial and Club Man on the way but looking into Fougere Nobile, Milano Cento and At the Barbers.
Thx so much. Your like a dear friend. I also enjoy cologne, costume jewelry and had the pleasure of meeting E.T. twice. I have a five foot poster signed of white diamonds. You seem so well adjusted and happy, such an inspiring man. Please tell me how to get a scents memory business card ? Opium is my new old favorite. Also, always enjoyed M by Marilyn Miglin. Sorry so long...had to reach out. Loved the video of bewitched ! Hi to boots.. John v.
Hi Lanier, great video, I really like barbershop scents. I purchased Acqua di Parma’s Colonia Intensa recently and I really like it? Have you tired Dior’s Eau Sauvage from 1966?
Yes I used to adore the old Eau Sauvage. It was beautiful. The current version is rather pale. But if you have never smelled the old pre-reformulation then the current run is okay. I do like the pure parfum in the dark green bottle. Cheers.
Dear Lanier, Im following your channel since more than 1 year and enjoy your reviews. Thanks to them, I found several little hidden gems, normaly I would not bend for. To give you something in return for all this entertainment, I would like to recommend you 2 of mine Favorites, you might have fun to discover too: Hammam Bouquet from Penhaligons, and Vetyvero from Diptyque. Goin to wait for your next reviews👍🏻
Andreas thank you so very VERY much! I have to get a sample of Hammam Bouquet and Vetyvero. I do love both of those houses. Cheers and thank you again!
Hi much enjoy your videos. Do you have any alternatives for perfume discountinuited and expensive to buy such as Rive Gauche and Dolce and Gabanna BY ? Thanks for your help. JPB
Wonderful review as always, I love Gray Flannel also. I would really like to see you do a full review. It gets so much hate in the community, time for it to get some much needed love. Cheers,
Have you ever tried Woods of Windsor (eau de toilette) for men? I am wearing it today. To me (and a coworker), it smells like shaving soap. In fact, Woods of Windsor also makes shaving soaps.
Wonderful video and I love the intro. I thought I would miss the San Fran one but this is so nice :) I must get round to trying the Dunhill. is it the current formula? The Cabochard looks awesome too!! Cheers!!
Ah well I will always miss San Francisco. But a new world is opening up to me here and I am enjoying it. Cabochard is indeed wonderful. Cheers Pine Rocks!
Floris № 89 is my favorite from the house. When you take the cap off, you can just hear a woman asking James Bond, what are you wearing James? And Bond replies "why, Floris № 89 of course". I see you're starting to get smitten by house Floris Lanier. I have seven of their fragrances. I am dying to try Turnbull & Asser 71/72. Can't get a sample of it because it's from the Bespoke collection. 🙁 If you can, try to get your nose on Invasion Barbare and Le Barbier de Tanger. Both from Parfums MDCI. I have no words to explain how good they are.
Oh James you have my full attention. Would love to get my nose on those perfumes from MDCI as well as Turnbull & Asser's fragrances. So happy you enjoyed the video and that you are a partner in scent when it comes to the house of Floris. Cheers!
@@nick177th that's good. I didn't realise I was replying several years later! What do you find it like? I haven't tried it but have quite a few other Floris and my favourites are 89, Special 127 and Neroli Voyage
Another terrific video! I appreciate the chronology of it and all of the historical detail. I really love a fragrance called Racquet Club by Mennen and it is indeed a rare beast. Do you know this one Lanier? To my nose it is similar to the Dunhill that you mentioned
Lanier Smith I managed to find an aftershave version of it in a splash bottle. I think it was available in other concentrations though, but I'm not sure. I have not found an eau de toilette yet, but I am still looking! It was the first fragrance that I fell in love with. It got me a lot of attention from the ladies!
I sure did forget Tabac Original. Now Dirk that is an impossible question to answer lightly. But I would have to go with Chanel simply because of the fact that it has been around making perfumes since 1921 and such masterpieces as Sycomore, 1922, Bois des Iles, Gardenia and No.5...and No.18 ... they all have my heart. But I do love Dior too. Cheers.
Please do a full review of GF. It's one of my all time favorite fragrances. Although there are a few positive reviews of it on TH-cam, that damn Grey Flannel challenge still saturates most of the search results
Will do DiamondBanger87... I agree. Grey Flannel has suffered from a bum rap that I believe is coming from popular suggestion. Know what I mean? Her her book Scent And Subversion Barbara Herman talks about the rebel she found in Grey Flannel and of it's beauteous drydown. Cheers
I used to have a bottle of Azzaro Pour Homme and loved it. I need to get another. I have smelled Paco Rabanne Pour Homme as well. nice! No to the Carven Vetiver...but now you have piqued my interest. Cheers!
Mr.Smelly, your video are very good. I keep watching your videos.
Wow what an amazing chronology of scents...I learned a lot from watching...This is my favorite video of the tag without question...thanks for sharing your insight on this subject...
Thank you for tagging me E it was super fun to do. And thank you for your kind words as well. Cheers my friend!
BOTH of you are something awesome and I miss seeing both of you, my friends...and Mr. Smith I feel honored to say I was with you when you bought Colonia at Barney's...
Vincent of Dreamhouse You were with me Vincent and that was indeed a special day. I miss you my dashing dapper friend. Cheers!
I absolutely LOVE your videos Mr. Smith. They, like you, are CLASSY.
The only "problem" I do actually find in your videos is that oneself always ends up feeling the insistent temptation of buying them ALL!

Here's winking at you Jean-Luc and thank you very much indeed for your charming and wonderful comment. Cheers!
Love this one as well Lanier! style, style, style!!!
Chirs Style always recognizes Style. Thank you so much. Cheers.
Thank you so much. Love the oldschool barbershop. Got 4711 and bought Dunhill last week and now you gave me more inspiration.
So simple and so magic. Keep it up and all the best!

Bill thank YOU for the very thoughtful and kind comment. A true gentleman indeed you are sir. Cheers!
Oh man this was a fantastic Video! I Love your knowledge and appreciation of these classics
Thanks so much Brandon!!
Thank you Lanier, very eloquently presented if I may say - you are indeed the quintessential gentleman!
Oh Paul thank you. I have to say, it takes a gentleman to know a gentleman. Cheers.
A most informative and enjoyable review. I thought that was a fantastic collection of fragrances. You are definitely a gentleman's class act!!
Why what a lovely thing to say 1928flash! Thank you so much. Cheers.

You did your homework on barbershop fragrances, I see. Fantastic! Thanks Lanier.
You have given me some research to do, but that's ok.
Joe thank you so much. Have fun in your olfactory research. I can't think of a better way to go shopping than in the Fragrance Department. Cheers.
Finally, a men’s fragrance channel that seems classy and not an “influencer” channel
Hello Lanier, excellent video as usual. My fave barbershop is Special No127 from Floris. I know you are getting into Floris, so I think you'll really appreciate this one. Check out this backstory:
'Originally created in 1890 for Russia’s Grand Duke Orloff and named ‘Orloff Special’, Special No. 127 was introduced into the Floris range some years after his death having been renamed after the page in the ‘Specials’ formula book in which the recipe was recorded. Now that is something I would love to smell Rorshach1004... and the story behind it is fascinating. Thanks for sharing that with us all here on the Scents Memory channel. You just made my day great and my wallet groan. LOL Cheers.
I love 127. I get Rose and Lavender mainly. It doesn't last quite as long as 89 and is a bit simpler but equally good
Lanier, thanks for that trip down memory lane! Oh how fondly I remember everyone wearing Grey Flannel when I was a mere pup. I do feel compelled to make a couple additions to your list however. The scent that most reminds me of the barbershop is Pinaud Clubman. Who doesn't forget being dusted with that familiar green bottle of talc after a haircut or the smell of "Dad" after shaving and splashing his face with nearly pure alcohol (MEN love PAIN!!) Yes I know just what you mean shtupman! Why do they even bother it they can't keep Clubman in its original glory. "Time is never reasonable, Time is our enemy Caesar..."
Marlena + James Dean both wore Knize Ten?! I'd never even heard of it. Your collection is so awesome, it's like a fragrance museum!
Cheers!
great lineup Lanier,
lots of history and gents stuff from yesterday. spot on the massey aftershaves and the carven. also I love the caron pour homme and my top fav paco rabbane
Cheers Gabriel and thank you so much!
A collection to be proud of!
I really enjoyed your video, your excursus in time, and the fact you made me discover some fragrances that are out of the mainstream.
Marco Donati thank you Marco! I’m very happy you enjoyed it. Cheers.
Oops, forgot to mention Aramis! How can you beat it's leather and spice scent?
Oh my word I forgot Aramis! Thanks Kevin for reminding me. A great barbershop fragrance indeed. Cheers!
Michael you better grab it soon as I have read that it is discontinued. Darn it!! Cheers.
Lanier Smith luckily they have a few bottles left. ;)
Good to hear!
Wow nice list👌great to see some love for Eucris and Dunhill for men two of my all time favs. How awesome is that Fougère Royale packaging too😊
Cheers Ben! Yes that Fougere Royale box is a keeper.
Big HUG !
Cheers!
grey Flannel! yes! you got it right!
Yes I love it
Hi Lanier, i was recently lucky enough to get a tin can Rive Gauche and really love it.
So it is high time it try it. right? Cheers.
i purchased an vintage recently, my brother used it in the 80s, the plastic black and white bottle, its just awesome
Very informative video!. I bought a bottle of Fougere Royale and it has become one of my favorite scents.
Georgio thank you. So happy you are a fan of Fougere Royale. Cheers.
I am absolutely in love with Van Cleef & Arpels Pour Homme. It smells like my apartment when I was a student in Florence. Pretty beautiful fragrance!
Ciao Paolo. Oh what a great scent memory!! I love Florence and have been many times. The city to me has the most wonderful scent. It smells to me of notes of leather and flowers in the spring. (I only go to Florence in the spring!) thank you for your charming comment that took me right back to much loved Italy. Cin cin!
È stato un piacere.
Il piacere è tutto mio
Great channel. Just subbed. I want to smell some of the super old scents from 100 plus years ago
You took us down a trip to memory lane. Great video Lanier!
Yep Joe, lots of great memories there. Fragance does that, isn't that great? Cheers.
What an excellent journey of scents. Love your videos. Thank you.
IrishFF187 thank YOU!!
So many "new" discoveries for me... I am on a hunt again :) thank u so much for taking us through this precious collection really enjoyed it!
So happy to see you IREVIEWITALL! And thank you for the great comment. You know I need to catch up on your wonderful channel. See you soon. Cheers!
Incredible collection Lanier,Gentlemen scents. Have you tried Smalto out back in the day? I really liked that scent,I think its discontinued.
I think it was a late 80s power house and it was from Francisco Smalto.
Yes I agree about Azzaqro Pour Homme and Rive Gauche. Don't have them in my collection and that needs to be addressed but soon. Cheers to you Erik.
Love barbershop frags and you have a great selection - thanks for sharing!
Cheers bhaffar and thank you so much.
Great video! Love that Grey Flannel got a mention, as I'm a fan as well. Did you ever do a complete review on it?
Well, I can't truly explain it but this must be one of my top fragrance genres! LOL! ... - because, imo, no collection is complete without 4711(I LOVE eau de colognes and all their variations),
I'm never without Grès Cabochard,
love the Caswell and Massey men's scents (I often buy the soaps),
just got Houbigant Fougere Royale about a month ago,
I own Grey Flannel,
adore Corso Como original. (haven't smelled Uomo.),
love Floris as a Line (most of the pre-reforms are complete stunners),
love Geo F.
Holly you just rocked my world. Bravo on your brilliant and fun comment. Cheers.
:) ... you're a dear.
AMAZING choices! Some I know and love, some I’m going to check out after watching this. Thanks!
I enjoyed this immensely. Thank you for another wonderful video!
Sascha you are very welcome! Cheers!
Paul you are a gentleman and an inspiration!
What a treat to hear from you here Hitz!! Thank you for all these wonderful memories you shared. Big HUG Cousin!~
Hey, Cuz! After thinking about I think that Grandpa Bill would have probably gotten a splash of Bay Rum at
the barber shop. Can't go wrong with the classics. I like your perfume series...Hitz
I really liked this video it was very educational, have you tried some of the more modern barbershop fragrances like beau de jour, sartorial and rive gauche pour homme?
the classiest gentleman among all the gentlemen of scents.
Oh Henry thank you so much!
Habit Rouge was my fathers fragrance, remember the bottle and smell well. He always slightly OD'd on it.
Very nice video and very good discoveries.
Great review and selections. Carven Homme has been one of my favorites this winter, actually works well any time from fall through spring.
Thanks so much CC33777, Yes Carven Homme is a beauty isn't it? And yes I agree with you, it is three seasonal. Cheers.
great collection and review dude you got them all there is 1 more YSL re gosh brown tin bottle from the 90s discontinued that is 1 great barbershop frag
Cheers Osca! And thanks so much.
pls do grey flannel. the key is use a touch (2 sprays on skin in cold weather only) like joop homme (another love/hate). beautiful scent- grey flannel!
You bet I will Chad and you are so very right on the application. Two to go and you are in the know. Or, to be in the center, two sprays in the winter. Cheers
Absolutely love your fragrance videos! Have a great day!
Timothy thank you from the bottom of my heart for that wonderful comment. Cheers.
WOW lanier you have so much class in your vids it's amazing ..God Bless you infinity..
Thank you so much Olga! Cheers and God bless you too.
What can I say Wahine of the Fairest... I have the same character flaw! Will do a full collection sometime I promise.
Fantastic collection, sir!
Given your love of Dunhill For Men, an excellent selection that was my signature scent for fifteen years, and Fougere Royalle, I'm surprised you didn't choose Azzaro Pour Homme or YSL Rive Gauche Pour Homme.
Would you count YSL pour homme, or Eau Sauvage? Two of my favorites,
first tried 4711 while stationed in Spain. love it.
Isn't it simply a marvelous way to start your day with a generous splash of 4711? Cheers Navy78!
absolutely I have 1 bottle open and always have a reserve, they have a nice body wash too...refreshing !
Navy78 Body wash!!! I had not a clue. Thanks for the heads up on that. Cheers.
My favorite eau de Parfum is from Boellis, called 1924.
Cabochard by Gres is DELICIOUS Mr. Lanier! I have both the EDT and EDP versions, I ❤️ it that much! 😍
Thanks for another great review !
My favorites are Houbigant Fougere Royale and Dunhill Icon . I will have to get my nose on Houbigant Cologne Intense . . . Thank again Lanier ! :)
Arden Powers you are ardently welcome. Do let me know what you think of Cologne Intense when you get a whiff of it. Cheers!
I will Lanier . . . :)
Great video! Thanks for making this! I'm going to check out 4711--cool history to it.
Ahh thanks! Cheers
Cheers Dawson and thank you. I do love Sartorial by Penhaligons. Lovely indeed.
Lanier you should really consider writing a book. I learn so much with your videos. 🙌🏼
Thanks so much TJ...well I am working on it! Cheers.
I wear Grey Flannel often! Love it..
Hey Mason Jar so do I ! Cheers.
Cheers.
Great topic, great presentation. Much appreciated.
Bigwave2003 thanks ...your joining is is much appreciated as well. Cheers!
Dear Lanier, Im following your channel since more than 1 year and enjoy your reviews. Thanks to them, I found several little hidden gems, normaly I would not bend for. To give you something in return for all this entertainment, I would like to recommend you 2 of mine Favorites, you might have fun to discover too:
Hammam Bouquet from Penhaligons, and Vetyvero from Diptyque.
Goin to wait for your next reviews👍🏻
Andreas thank you so very VERY much! I have to get a sample of Hammam Bouquet and Vetyvero. I do love both of those houses. Cheers and thank you again!
Many Thanks in return. Im excited to view or read your impressions about them. Chears🍸
Hi much enjoy your videos. Do you have any alternatives for perfume discountinuited and expensive to buy such as Rive Gauche and Dolce and Gabanna BY ? Thanks for your help. JPB
Hello to you what is the long lasting barbershop perfume and smell fantastic?
Great video! Is your bottle of Gres Cabochard EDT or EDP?
Wonderful review as always, I love Gray Flannel also. I would really like to see you do a full review. It gets so much hate in the community, time for it to get some much needed love. Cheers,
Lovely to know Mr. Bangkok that you and I and Diamondbanger87 (comment listed above) are on the same page when it come to Grey Flannel. Cheers.
Have you ever tried Woods of Windsor (eau de toilette) for men? I am wearing it today. To me (and a coworker), it smells like shaving soap. In fact, Woods of Windsor also makes shaving soaps.
Seth sad to say I have not...but now I am on a quest. Thanks for the suggestion. Cheers!
Cheers!
71/72 is in one of the Floris Discovery sample sets you can get from them (or can in the UK where I am).
@@jonstern7511 I have a bottle now, thank you.
Yes I remember Racquet Club from my youth! Thanks for reminding me of that, I am on the hunt for it now. Cheers Charles!
Thanks Charles!!
Beautiful music
I wear the heck out of Grey Flannel! A classic! Woe to all the naysayers!
Woe indeed! Lol . Cheers!
Mr Smith, you forgot TABAC Original ! And what would you consider the better house regarding fragrances, Chanel or Dior ?
I sure did forget Tabac Original. Now Dirk that is an impossible question to answer lightly. But I would have to go with Chanel simply because of the fact that it has been around making perfumes since 1921 and such masterpieces as Sycomore, 1922, Bois des Iles, Gardenia and No.5...and No.18 ... they all have my heart. But I do love Dior too. Cheers.
Which Gres Cabochard you recommend ? EdP or EdT ?
Please do a full review of GF. It's one of my all time favorite fragrances. Although there are a few positive reviews of it on TH-cam, that damn Grey Flannel challenge still saturates most of the search results
Will do DiamondBanger87... I agree. Grey Flannel has suffered from a bum rap that I believe is coming from popular suggestion. Know what I mean? Her her book Scent And Subversion Barbara Herman talks about the rebel she found in Grey Flannel and of it's beauteous drydown. Cheers
Amazing list. What about heritage edt?
nice listing of scents. do you have Azzaro pour homme? Paco rabanne pour homme? also you mentioned the Carven homme, have you tried Carven vetiver?
I used to have a bottle of Azzaro Pour Homme and loved it. I need to get another. I have smelled Paco Rabanne Pour Homme as well. nice! No to the Carven Vetiver...but now you have piqued my interest. Cheers!
What about that old fragrance called Courier & Ives, think it was discontinued but what fragrance
Gary thanks for bringing that up. I have to look into that and do some exploring. Cheers.
Dear Lanier, would you be so kind to review Quorum by Puig? I'd be awfully grateful.
Thank you Lanier 🙂🏆✨
wow amazing collection , some of my favorites on there , some i need to still try at some point , i'm over run with bottles right now though haha
Overrun with bottles? Welcome to my world. Cheers Matt and thanks a bunch.
Yes lol 620 plus and counting! Cheers 🍻
Great history and review. I learned a lot. Thank you!
Thanks so much LJ ...I was surprised at how much I remembered LOL. Cheers.
Love the background music!
