Yes it does. It even has a button dedicated to setting up bracketed shots. I cover this briefly in my Nikon D7100 - Quick Tour and External Feature Review Video.
If often low light and you don't need the serious buffer or FPS the D7100 IS worth the extra, low light capabilities of that camera are stunning. Pair it with the Sigma 17-70 and you have a sweet combination. Throw on a 35 f/1.8 for walk around and sweet with cherry on top! I'd appreciate you using links below my video to buy. Happy to answer additional questions.
I answered this over on the A65 page- I found the D7100 to be fantastic except the burst rate issue, I personally wouldn't have issues with the smaller buffer but if I was shooting fast action sports it may be a problem. Depends on if you want to shoot full raw or now. The addition of the 1.3x crop mode in the D7100 does give you more fps too plus a cheap way to get more zoom. Hope that helps.
It is certainly not a deal breaker that Nikon does not do exposure simulation but I do really appreciate for teaching and learning the real time feedback. And you do bring up a good point - take a photo and there is your almost real time feedback so the difference is slight.
85 is certainly an idea and an affordable way to get nice zoom when used with the 2x crop. If you were interested in Macro lens you could grab the Tamron 90 f/2.8 and do something similar and have a nice macro. And there is always the 70-200 but now we are starting to talk about big money.
Not a stupid question. Colors are just fine out of both cameras. When you look at the shots on a screen at normal viewing they look similar. When you zoom to 100% you see a noticeable increase in sharpness/detail from the D7100. It is nearly 2x the price of the t4i though.
I bought the T4i and the D5200 to be knowledgeable about both. I rented the D7100 for two weeks. I will be buying the SL1, probably not the T5i but I haven't decided yet.
When you use a crop sensor camera like the T4i you have to multiple all lens focal lengths by 1.6x to get the true focal length I talk about this more in a video titled Sensor Sizes Explained.
D7100 is one of the best crop sensor cameras you can buy today. If truly printing billboard sized you may want to consider a full frame camera like the D600.
I don't hear anything from you that says you need the D7100 over the D5200- that would be higher speed action or wildlife but the D7100 feels wonderful in the hand and is very manual control friendly which helps one to being a better photographer - so if it doesn't bust your budget - go for it. At the same time, D5200 saves money that you could put toward a better lens which will stay with you through bodies.
The T4i with 18-135 is a nice combination but you should consider picking up the 50 f/1.8 or even better the 50 f/1.4 if you are going to be serious about taking head shots. The 50 f/1.4 is a lovely lens and gives you about 80mm focal length, nearly perfect if not perfect for head and portrait shots.
That DXOMark scores bugs me a bit, I haven't seen a single picture where the D7100 doesn't look better than the D5200 BUT they are very very close in most photos. If you don't need the performance of the D7100 the D5200 does save you money and with a nice lens(which will move with you from camera to camera) you are going to get lovely photos. Happy to answer followup questions.
I have some sample images I can post soon, I am sadly required to send my review unit back today so it will be awhile before I post any new D7100 content.
Thanks Mr. P- But I never got more than 5.7 FPS in my testing. My tests were over a 10 second period and 57 JPEGs was the highest number which works out to about 5.7 FPS. It is a lovely camera and if that performance isn't critical it will suit you very well.
The image quality out of the D7100 is stunning, very very good even in low light. Much better than the 7D. However the 7D can shoot large bursts of images and is built like a tank. Most Canon and Nikon lenses are similar enough that that doesn't really help pick one over the other. What kind of shooting do you plan to do? tell me a bit more and I can offer some advice.
It depends on your needs. What kind of shooting will you do? The D7100 sensor is awesome, really great in low light, performance-wise it is not quite the same as the D7000, focus is good but that buffer is a bit slower/smaller than I would like. That help? Feel free to ask more questions.
What kind of shooting do you hope to do? video, photo both? Action? If not lots of action the D5200 would save you money and give you just as good results in many situations. D7100 is very nice but not everyone needs.
If you were to look through both side by side you would notice that the D7100 seems a bit bigger and brighter- that can be nice in lower light shooting but it is not a night and day difference.
Not if you use the kit lens. It will certainly be better especially in lower light but you won't really see BIG differences until you use different lenses.
A newbie willing to read the manual and looking to grow as a photographer. . sure. If you just want a more no think approach your money might be spent elsewhere with the savings put toward a nice lens or two. Happy to help you figure out if this is the camera for you. Tell me more about you :)
I agree, better low light performance with D600 but only slightly. Pair the D7100 with the new 18-55 f/1.8 from Sigma - sheweee that would be a low light machine.
I have heard rumors that they might address so I wouldn't say Definitely yes, this has been true of all their cameras up to this point so it doesn't feel like this is a must change for them.
This is an interesting comment, I returned my review unit so can't test but I have heard something similar from someone else - it just Didn't seem to work consistently and that was confusing to me.
I watch this guy a lot. The reason is, he's so on the money! I own the D7100 and have put it through its paces and then some. I believe it is one of the greatest camera configurations ever put together. He's right about the RAW buffer rate. But if you are a JEPG shooter (ie, an artist) and like to do virtually all of it in the camera, especially if you are a birder and love the extra reach on an FX lens, this camera is the cat's whiskers. Put a 50 mm prime on it and manually tweak the focus in Live View, and you've got a still-life image, for instance, so crystalline that most photographers would die for it. It is not, however, a camera for either for the novices (ie, those who actually shoot Auto) or, indeed, the faint of heart. It takes effort and skill to get to its core. But oh, the rewards!
It would not matter a great deal. T3i and T4i are virtually identical. T2i is a little different but not much. There are other differences but when comparing just image quality all three are very similar.
(1) Hi Toby, first off, thx for all your informative videos. I'm from Germany, so please don't expect my English to be perfect. You said in this video, that you can't change the aperture in live-view. Yesterday I went to a shop to get my hands on this nice camera and tried to change the aperture in photo-live-view, and it worked. It just wasn't reflected in the live-view-picture but the meter indicated it....
Really? Have you compared the two side by side? D7000 was and still is an excellent camera but the sensor in the D7100 is capable of very nice low light performance.
Nothing like recording the review twice and realizing the second time that WB was off and when I tried to correct it I think I made it worse :/ I almost considered making it B&W ;)
Hi Toby. I own T4i and have been using for general and travel/sports photography. I want to switch to nikon for better image quality as I have searched nikons produce better images than canons. I am confused between d5300 and d7100 and also thinking about canon 70d. How big the difference of image quality of d5300/ d7100 and 70d . Please help me to choose for more vivid sharp images. Also which lens is better nikon 18-140 or canon 18-135 STM Thanks
Nadeem Ashraf Cheema Really there isn't that much difference and you are better off learning how to take better photos than switching. BUT D5300 does offer best image quality. Those two lenses are also almost the same quality - no real difference.
(2) ... I don't know if this is also the fact for video-live-view, but for the photo-live-view, I can tell, you can change the aperture without leaving live-view.
All I really want, is to purchase a camera that I can keep for a good time (5+ years), is around or less than $1k and that will make me happy when I see the quality of the pictures. What would you recommend? Maybe Canon? Am I asking too much for a crop sensor camera maybe? Thank you for your quick responce and interest in helping out!
Great review I have this camera and really like it. 2 questions for you Why is it when I go into my menu settings there are settings I cannot change? for example when I try to change my white balance it says "This option is not available at current settings or in the cameras current state." Also I am looking at getting into wedding photography. But I cant afford what I truly want to buy yet. If you could purchase only one or two lenses which would you pick?
"that will make me happy when I see the quality of the pictures. " that is very subjective :) If I were you, because you said "night pictures" I would get the NikonD5200 and get the 35 f/1.8, this is a lovely lens/camera combo and is going to give you excellent photos and lovely photos at night.
I've been trying to figure out a way to start/stop video using the D7100. The ML-L3 remote activates the shutter, but any way to program to control video without touching the camera?
Nice review, thanks! Can you do a comparison of the D7100 vs D5200 in real world scenarios? Be interesting to see the differences of picture/video quality, handling and performance. Like your informative reviews as usual. Cheers.
If I use a 18-55mm kit len on the D7100 do I going to see better picture on the D7100 than the D5100? I'm looking for upgrade from D5100 that's why asked
the problem about an aperture is not been changeable (at 9:05), is it just a problem with nikon D7100 only or D7000 and D5200 have too? N do you think nikon gonna fix this problem with D7100 soon? caz i'm a beginner so that's a very big deal and must have feature for me...
Toby, First as always you are very nice and soft when you are doing review. if you recall you had done memory card review on D7100 and it does got you more FPS then only 6 or 7. best-sd-card-for-the-nikon-d7100 I am more leaning towards D7100. Thanks for doing such a great review!
I shoot sports quite a bit and to be quite honest, I don't spray the shutter when shooting. I always aim to get the shot in the moment. I can definitely overlook that small detail. Have you tried out the grip extension yet? Thanks for the review.
Thanks for the info, I've been using the 7100 for over a year now. I shoot weddings with it and I like it but I do get frustrated by the buffer when shooting In RAW. I find myself going back to my trusty 7000 when I get sick of waiting. I think it's very important to use a super fast memory card with the 7100 where I haven't really had to think much about it with previous DSLR's that I've owned. That is my only complaint. The image quality is amazing with the 7100 even shooting in jpeg normal with optimal compression.
lol sounds like someone has been spoiled by L.C.D view I remember the days of film when ya had to wait for it to develop and I.S.O was known as A.S.A and you could only shoot 36 pictures at a time lol guess I am showing my age hehe
Faster but not as fast I would like in a camera in this price range and class. I have a video that shows how it slows down after a burst and how long it takes to clear the buffer - send me a message on facebook(linked below this video) and I will send you the link to the video.
Your video's are very informative, as always. Thanks Toby. I am all sold on D7100. Will be upgrading from d3100. Question to you is, Will all my lenses ( including 35mm f 1.8 ) work on D7100 ? I hear this one has an internal focusing motor
I want to congratulate you for the amazing reviews! I am about to upgrade my dslr but Im confused. I noticed the d5200 has a higher score than the d7100 on DXOMark and if they were a little off on the score the price difference would make the 5200 a better choice because that way one could purchase a nice lens with teh price difference. Would you recommend a Canon match? Never really used Canon. I just need the camera to shoot landscapes, portrait, night pictures as a hobby. Thank you!!!
Hey Toby! I purchased a d7100 with a 35mm 1.8g ! I'm very excited waiting for it to arrive in the mail, but I am unsure of what to get as a complimentary lens. I owned a 70-300 4.5 5.6 Olympus lens but noticed the pictures were kind of dark and don't want to buy a same spec lens for the Nikon. Any suggestions? I was thinking 85mm 1.8 and use the extra crop function to make it a 200mm would this work? Thanks!
i bought a nikon d7100 with 18-140mm lens i had problem in manual mode or shutter mode when i click the photo i cn't see the picture and my screen gets blank suggest me some solution.
I've been using this camera for over a year and i'd say I am pretty happy with this camera, but one thing frustrates me is that, after i use the live view to take photo, the screen just turns black for almost a second (or even longer...) before it shows me the picture.... :(
Hi, I have been looking both at the d600 and the d7100. Apart from the obvious full vs APS-C sensor and the price point, I am not sure which one to get. I am not a professional photographer but want some thing with good potential as I am looking to grow. Wondering your thoughts. Mainly shoot family, sports, some wildlife but a lot of vacation stuff (i.e nature...not wildlife). Thanks
Hi there...thank you for your videos...well now after seeing this..I wanna buy it..but the prob is I might not be able to buy any more lenses other than the 18 - 105 provided..coz of budget...on the other hand...I was earlier thinking of getting a d5200 with 18-55 provided lens and buying Nikon 70-300 mm VR lens and a 35 mm Prime at a later stage....ao wanted to ask if I do this deal with the 5200...am I missing out a lot by not going for d7100
I am really Confused between cannon 7d and nikon d7100. which will perform better and last long. i dont know which camera to buy. I even heard that canon lenses and machines are better than Nikon. Can you guide me? or a video on that maybe? thank you
Thanks for your videos. They're great! I'm getting into headshot photography and I'm a new photographer so I haven't bought a camera yet, but I'm looking at the Canon T4i with the 18-135mm lens. Is that a good package to start with or should I just buy the body and get a better lens? And if so, could you recommend one? I haven't researched Nikon at all but I do like the video capability with the Canons.
I need a dslr for normal photography and videos...like...when on a trip...on birthdays..marriages...going on a trek trip....please do advice if the lenses I plan to buy with 5200 need any addition to the ones that I wrote...that is Nikon 70-300 mm VR..and the 35 mm or 50 mm 1.8 D prime...do I need to buy any more as a start for my foray into the world of dslrs..plus...your videos are tooo informative... Thanks a ton...really appreciate :-)
One of your canvases is crooked. You've probably fixed it by now but it bothered me throughout the entire video, haha! Thanks for the review. It's very helpful.
It goes crooked. its rogue!!! You wouldn't believe the number of videos I have out with a comment or two about that damn thing. But thank you and sorry!
toby i have a question nikon d5200 has 95% viewfinder coverage while nikon d7100 has 100% viewfinder coverage is this real important to have a 100% viewfinder coverage or is it okay with 95% viewfinder coverage does it make big different to that???
Is D7100 worth in 2018? Or going for D7200. I have tight budget, thas why i m asking. I m interested in still photography and want crisp, high quality pictures. I have another option canon 70D. What you say?
I've been watching your videos for a while and i appreciate all the help, im looking to buy my first DSLR which im planing to own for a while most of the will be shooting landscape and low light situations, i was looking your reviews D5200 vs T4i but im thinking on investing on the 7100 with a good all purpose lens. Do you think its too much camera for me? what would you recommend?
You won't have autofocus with D-Lenses combined with the D5200, since they are AF not AF-S and the D5200 doesn't have a built-in AF-Motor like the D7100 has. If you want autofocus go for the newer G-Versions with AF-S.
Hi i wanted to know if it's really worth it to buy this camera instead of the d7000. I want to upgrade from my d3100 and i don`t know it the price of the d7100 is worth it
I will see what I can do. Also - drop a few dollars in my donation button on the website and I will have one bangup hyperfocal tutorial for you ASAP :)
What will you be shooting? Mostly action D7000, just normal and travel? D5300 has an awesome sensor and decent buffer just not quite as capable of action - but the difference isn't huge. www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1024153-REG/nikon_1522_d_5300_slr_with_18_55mm.html?BI=4773&KBID=5287
CameraRec Toby this is going to be my first dslr after a point nd shoot and 1st step into photography.. i havent yet explored what exactly i be shooting in the future but i admire macros , night photography, a lil bit of birds and pet photografy and also the most important is this-being a veterinarian i want to photograph animals for surgery, skin conditions , eye closeups etc etc both indoors and outdoors. i d be putting more emphasis on lens than on body. as u can imagine what my needs would be pls suggest me.. thanks a ton
Hi Toby, I just got the nikon5200 as a present.Could you please help me decide if it would be worth it for me to spend the extra cash and exchange my 5200 for D7100? Most likely landscape, still photos, portraits, special occasions and nature/animals. I dont wanna regret it later and think "I should have spent the extra cash and gotten D7100". Is it worth the extra cash I would be spending to get the D7100? Thank you so much for your time! -JJ
Great review. Thanks I am quite new on dlsr, but got a brand new D7100 with grib. I need an alround lense for the camera and I have look on this 2: AF-S Nikkor 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR DX and AF-S Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED DX VR Any comments on that? My knowledge on lenses is on beginner mode. At this moment I have : D7000 NIKON AF 50MM/1.4 D NIKON AF-S 50MM/1.8 G NIKON AF-S DX 18-105/3,5-5,6 G ED VR came with D7000 NIKON AF-S DX 85MM/3.5 G ED VR MAKRO

I have both cameras ordered that you mention. Great video. It was top notch. Short and to the point with no stupid music in the background. Thanks ❤❤❤
HI JJ - I did answer this somewhere .. . right? What did you decide.
This is an interesting comment, I returned my review unit so can't test but I have heard something similar from someone else - it just Didn't seem to work consistently and that was confusing to me.
I am happy to answer more question.

Thanks! Everything I've been researching so far recommends about an 85mm lens. I didn't realize the 50 f/1.4 could get an 80mm focal length.
With the detail obtained from having no low-pass filter, it sounds like the D7100 will make it a hard choice for some wanting to jump to the FX D600.
Rent from lensrentals or borrowlenses. It really is a lovely camera.
Nothing like recording the review twice and realizing the second time that WB was off and when I tried to correct it I think I made it worse :/ I almost considered making it B&W ;)
Definitely, yes!

The problem with being early, no HD yet! Oh well, great video as always Toby.
Bought a 7100 - based on your vids - thanks. Very happy w it so far (kinda replaced my end of life D300)
Great review I have this camera and really like it.
2 questions for you
Why is it when I go into my menu settings there are settings I cannot change? for example when I try to change my white balance it says "This option is not available at current settings or in the cameras current state."
Also I am looking at getting into wedding photography. But I cant afford what I truly want to buy yet. If you could purchase only one or two lenses which would you pick?
All Nikon cameras have this issue. I have heard rumors that they might address it but they are just rumours so I can't say for sure.
"that will make me happy when I see the quality of the pictures. " that is very subjective :) If I were you, because you said "night pictures" I would get the NikonD5200 and get the 35 f/1.8, this is a lovely lens/camera combo and is going to give you excellent photos and lovely photos at night.

Do you think Nikon will release a firmware update in order to fix the aperture/shutter speed issue?
If I use a 18-55mm kit len on the D7100 do I going to see better picture on the D7100 than the D5100? I'm looking for upgrade from D5100 that's why asked
the problem about an aperture is not been changeable (at 9:05), is it just a problem with nikon D7100 only or D7000 and D5200 have too? N do you think nikon gonna fix this problem with D7100 soon? caz i'm a beginner so that's a very big deal and must have feature for me...
Great video again Toby. I am wondering why are you buying all those cameras? D5200, t4i, D7100 although u already have 5d II & III for pro use.
Are you able to use an external monitor using HDMI while RECORDING video at 1080 30p with the Nikon D7100?
I have heard rumors that they might address it but they are just rumours so I can't say for sure.
Toby, First as always you are very nice and soft when you are doing review. if you recall you had done memory card review on D7100 and it does got you more FPS then only 6 or 7.
best-sd-card-for-the-nikon-d7100
I am more leaning towards D7100.
Thanks for doing such a great review!
I shoot sports quite a bit and to be quite honest, I don't spray the shutter when shooting. I always aim to get the shot in the moment. I can definitely overlook that small detail. Have you tried out the grip extension yet? Thanks for the review.
I have not.
I agree that the D7100 video is better than the T4i, it is 2x the price.
Very nice review sr. I get mine this week, and it's just an amazing camara for the price!
Overall it is a very nice camera, just don't know why they gave it a puny buffer. Even D5300 has a bigger buffer.
lol sounds like someone has been spoiled by L.C.D view I remember the days of film when ya had to wait for it to develop and I.S.O was known as A.S.A and you could only shoot 36 pictures at a time lol guess I am showing my age hehe
Faster but not as fast I would like in a camera in this price range and class. I have a video that shows how it slows down after a burst and how long it takes to clear the buffer - send me a message on facebook(linked below this video) and I will send you the link to the video.
Thanks for this excellent comment.
Excellent review. Really tempted to try out D7100 (currently GH3 owner :) ).
Dude, that moiré picture completely killed my eyes, especially with my screen so bright.
What lens would you recommend to match up D7100 for landscape, lowlight, indoor sports?
If I get that 50f/1.4 lens, would it matter a great deal in picture quality if I got a T2i, a T3i, or a T4i?
Toby have you test this camera against t4i ?? the colors are better in the d7100 or in the t4i ? (is a stupid question i know ;)
Your video's are very informative, as always.
Sweet - It really is a lovely camera.
Thanks!
Agreed!
Toby, Does the D7100 shoots multiple exposures ?
i want to use them for photomatix to get hdr photos!!
i bought a nikon d7100 with 18-140mm lens i had problem in manual mode or shutter mode when i click the photo i cn't see the picture and my screen gets blank suggest me some solution.
Sigma 17-70 f/2.8-4 - the New Contemporary one - I have a review of it on my channel.
Can you guide me? or a video on that maybe? thank you
Thanks and I just got my D7100 great camera I love it.
Just bought d7100 yesterday! Wow!!this camera is amazing!loaded and faster enough than my t4i!goodbye t4i!;)
Thanks for your videos.
Would you recommend this camera for a newbie.
Hi Toby, New here. Would like to know if the D7100 is a good upgrade from D3300?
Hi Tobz which is reasonable to buy the d7100 or canon 6d?thnks
Thanks Toby ! seems to be a great camera even better than d7000.
Great review and a pretty funny ending. :D
d7000 or d5300 ?/? for tight budget what to go for at this point of time??
What will you be shooting? Mostly action D7000, just normal and travel? D5300 has an awesome sensor and decent buffer just not quite as capable of action - but the difference isn't huge. www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1024153-REG/nikon_1522_d_5300_slr_with_18_55mm.html?BI=4773&KBID=5287
CameraRec Toby this is going to be my first dslr after a point nd shoot and 1st step into photography.. i havent yet explored what exactly i be shooting in the future but i admire macros , night photography, a lil bit of birds and pet photografy and also the most important is this-being a veterinarian i want to photograph animals for surgery, skin conditions , eye closeups etc etc both indoors and outdoors. i d be putting more emphasis on lens than on body. as u can imagine what my needs would be pls suggest me.. thanks a ton
mandypano so what do u suggest Toby- new rig or the older d7000?
Hi Toby,
I just got the nikon5200 as a present.Could you please help me decide if it would be worth it for me to spend the extra cash and exchange my 5200 for D7100?
Most likely landscape, still photos, portraits, special occasions and nature/animals.
I dont wanna regret it later and think "I should have spent the extra cash and gotten D7100".
Is it worth the extra cash I would be spending to get the D7100?
Thank you so much for your time!
-JJ
It really is great!
D7100 VS D600 WHICH ONE U CHOOSE ?
the price is same .
What do you shoot? D7100 for more action D600 for more landscapes.
Awsome. Feel free to share some shots on my facebook page, linked under the video.
Great review. Thanks
