O.K.! Couldn't tell from the post-interesting note-if you look at Journey's tour schedule, they are literally having this guy sing every other day-for months on end. That's exactly what they did under H. Herbert as manager to Steve when he begged to stop after the Raised on Radio tour. Do these guys not get that singer isn't a robot-you can't just wind him up and abuse those vocal chords night after night? Next we'll hear that they ditch him if he can't keep up the pace on the greedy-go-round.
I just hope they don't chew up Arnel's voice with too much touring and no respect for what a singer needs to maintain vocal integrity. Of course they have technological 'crutches' now that they didn't have 20 years ago. I'll never buy this album because I have no wish to give a dime to Schon/Cain/Valory-but I wish Arnel well. The picture with him and his baby is adorable-for the sake of his family I wish him success. Hope he makes it big and leaves the rest of them in the dust.
Sorry, but have to disagree. I've listened to the tracks he's laid down with David Pack less than 5 years ago-his voice is a bit lower, but still with amazing power, a smoky, jazzy quality to it. Lovely to listen to. Look, I don't want him back with Journey-but I'll be first in line for a new singles album/concert DVD/live show-the man is an icon and that won't change.
Steve in a mid-80's interview put it best-paraphrasing here-that if a guitar player or a drummer get a callous from too much playing, it just means they don't have pain, but it won't affect their performance-but if a singer overdoes it-a metaphoric callous (polyp on vocal chords) can destroy a voice or a career-so he would rest his voice by not talking-which made them think him moody or standoffish-funny how other singers like Celine Dion 'get it' and do the same thing-but his bandmembers didn't
I agree with you about the split in the mid-80's-Perry was very clear about being 'toast' and needing to find himself outside of the band for his own physical and emotional health. It's the 'Trial by Fire' split that bugs me-they could easily have toured, like they certainly did with Rolie, under another name until Perry recovered from the hip surgery-but they chose to try to find a sound alike which took them 10 years. It's the nasty things they say-Perry DOESN'T diss them-that really bugs me!
