Half the audience probably never heard to the Yes masterpiece. I think it's wonderful the Joe is bringing Yes music to a whole new audience. Of all the songs he could have chosen from , to pay homage to British music , he picked a Classic. Love the original , love Joe's interpretation.
Absolutely superb. Always thought Joe was a fine guitarist, and this proves it to me beyond all shadow of doubt. IMO he totally nails what is one of my favourite Yes pieces. A worthy tribute to the great Steve Howe indeed.
I Like Jo very much but having heard this first time right now, my immediate impression is:- he does not however go anywhere near what Steve Howe does on the ultimate extended solo. Howe used to take the roof off places night after night in those great heady days around 1972 onward . Even at Wembley in 1978 at the matinee I attended and still remember as if yesterday and well bootlegged, After utterly seismic bass action by one Mr Squire (RIP) Wakemen erupts with an awe inspiring moog solo as an incredible preamble, to Howes modified soloing, I swear Howe stopped the planet from rotating for a few minutes thereafter and, at the end of wurm I swear again, the crowd erupted like someone had scored a late winning goal in a cup final. So - This is a good effort but nowhere near What Steve Howe could actually do with it - in his prime. I am sure Jo himself would acknowledge this too .
No, it's simpler than that. Howe won Guitar Players best OVERALL guitarist readers poll 5 years in a row. They removed him from the ballot after the 5th. The best? That's subjective, but as these were readers polls you can easily claim the most liked or the most influential. Remember, mostly guitar PLAYERS subscribe to Guitar Players magazine. Bonamassa is a cool guy, loves to play, and obviously has great taste. But he's not in Howes league. Sorry to all the Joe fans but Howe in his prime was considered the greatest of his time.
I'm a huge fan of Yes and I totally disagree with you. Steve is indeed a very fine player, up there with Hackett, Latimer and the very, very best, but Joe Bonamassa is also a magnificent player with a deep respect for British blues and progressive rock. Don't knock the kid - he's the best guitarist to come out of the US since Stevie Ray Vaughan
@@johnroberthanna1623 He's also a very fine player and Toto are the probably best band to come out of the US (even if they had an English drummer for a while).
It's like Steve Howe put his talent in a meat grinder that roughed up every edge of the notes and literally sawed a lot in half. Good raw version by a decent guitarist.
remember the great Yes Music is now 35 to 53 years old and there are a lot of youngin's finding them. Then they figure out they PLAYED and SANG everything in a few takes with no AUTO anything !!
If you haven't checked out Joe's Rocktoplast version of this song with Eric Czar on bass, you might be pleasantly surprised. In fact, go through the Rocktoplast videos and you'll be amazed- Joe's best mix of Strats and Les Pauls- good audio and visuals.
@lydianfreak indeed, pretty shamelessly too as it should be....i have no problem hearing flourishes of influences in anyones playing....more of an homage to me
Totally awesome!
March on, starship troopers, march on!!!

I bet it's less than that... Most Joe fans have good musical bacgrounds. Yes is a legend.
This is so cool

Killer tribute of one of Yes's finest moments by a STILL (??) underrated and often misunderstood genius.
Now that's class - the kid sure can play, and he also has superb taste in material to boot!
La può suonare anche il panettiere sotto casa ma rimarrà uno dei migliori pezzi prog di sempre.
I can see impie stormtroopers marching to this.
He now's play what he used to enjoy ... you are a great guitar player !

Oh relax, it is SH's own piece, so of course he has more invested into it, and also played it much more repeatedly, to boring death.
well said

surprised that some people today discover the great music that was Yes..

Was erbij 👌🏻
Steve Howe MASTER OFF ALL TIMES ¡¡¡ And of course YES too but with MR JON ANDERSON ¡¡¡
Nice Tribute to The Great Steve Howe.
does justice to howe definitely

This kid might be going somewhere if he keeps practicing.
Nice one Ramon, thanks! My view was almost exactly the same since I was no more than a meter to your right.
Cool video. You had a great spot in the front ;)

The bass player got the bass intro right.
Too aggressive, give it up, Steve Howe was never this crude. But a great song to share.
Nobody does it as well as Steve Howe and YES!
Nice tribute- with all due respect, I hear shades of Eric Johnson in his improv., but great solo all the same.
Not in the same street as Steve Howe, sorry
Nah get outta here with that sorry rivalry crap. It's SH's own piece so he's always had more invested into it, and played it to boring death.
Relax...it's just an homage.
So what? He is one brilliant guitarist, showing his deep respect for the great Steve Howe. What could be bad...?
i agree. Nice tribute, but lesser to the original. Steve Howe is god as far as this is concerned.
Even better than Steve in my book
