I will say, I don't know who catered your Emirates flights, but on my EK flights (JFK-DXB-HYD) the only food that was bad is some side salads. The food on EK is some of the best ive had. Great review Josh and stay safe!

Well if he flew from Bangkok it would’ve been catered by Bangkok Airways. In my experience they’re pretty average and I think Thai Airways’ catering services is a lot better. One thing they do good though is really fresh salads. They have a contract with “Royal project” who are a group of govt-subsidised farmers who do really great veggies.

When it comes to food and beverages I feel like the quality on Emirates has decreased massively over the past years. When I flew with them for the first time in the early 2010s from Hamburg to Beijing via Dubai I still remember the crew serving drinks every few hours to all the economy passengers without being asked. Also the meals felt a little "bigger" and more filling. When I flew with them again last spring from Hamburg to Melbourne via Dubai the meals were smaller and drinks were only served with the meals. If you wanted to drink anything in between you had to call the crew over, climb over your neighbours or hope to catch one of the few drinks they carried on a small tablet and offered to the few people who payed attention. Also if it wasn't for my friend giving me half of her meals I would have starved. Especially on the 14 hour leg from Dubai to Melbourne one Meal and a piece of microwaved pizza and the tiny breakfast were not enough. Sure I could have raided the snack bar but that wouldn't have been fair to all the other passengers. 😂
Though the service overall was and has always been great with Emirates and their entertainment system is the best I have experienced so far it still feels wrong to arrive at the destination of an almost 30 hour trip hungry as hell. Especially since I'm not the biggest guy and would even argue that I eat less than the average man. 😅

I think it has to do with culture. Asian crews are friendly and humble. Crews of Western airline companies are more spontaneous, have humor and all topics can be discussed. Whether it is about the flight or personal opinions. My last flight was to Malaysia with KLM. I spoke to the crew and we talked about everything, even about our personal lives. I would never dare to speak to an Asian crew and ask about her family situation. I sometimes enjoyed chatting with a crew, especially on long intercontinental flights. And of course, safety comes first for the crew members.

Emirates really have gone down quite a bit in the past few years. No more hot towels and amenity kits, no more pre meal snack & drink, extra payment for seat selections and so on. Kind of sad to see this happening, as they should get better instead of worse.

  • @andyfreeman6942
    @andyfreeman6942 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Agree.. on over 80 flights with Emirates only once did the senior flight attendant introduce himself to me saying he appreciated it's skywards frequent flyers. I really appreciated this and the fact he asked if I would like my preferred alcoholic beverage. But as the drinks are free.. it took the edge of his jesture a little.
Emirate's.. you need to engage more

I have flown with Emirates quite a bit, only in Economy though. I found their flight crew to be grumpy and showed selective politeness. Their best service was reserved for people from "specific" parts of the world. The food was always good IMHO. As a contrast, their ground staff was EXCEPTIONAL, unbiased and totally professional with the occasional personal touch. Funny if you ask me.

For me, I actually loved Singapore Airlines.... I've been flying with them since my days as a kid with my parents in the 80s, and right up until 2019 on their awesome A380.... the staff to me were great.... and very talkative.... wanting to find out about my trip, where I travelled too; if I needed something, I was waited on immediately and accommodated.... food was fantastic. Planes were always clean and nicely kept. They are as far as I'm concerned, the best international airline in the world. I would choose them over Emirates any day, and flying to the best airport in the world Changi Airport is an added bonus, for the connecting hub. Especially now that they have Changi Jewel....

Thanks for the great review Josh. I’m an infrequent traveller but have been going back and forth across the Atlantic every year for 25 years now. What I do is order a special meal to get something a little tastier...Halal or Indian are usually quite good. And the FAs also tell me that those are their favorites. Try it! Take care, stay safe and hope to see you up in the air again soonest! Liebe Grüße aus Essen.

Emirates food in all classes once was outstanding, but that was 10 and 15 years ago. I agree with you, that now it is often bland, served with little (Business) or no attention (Economy) to any detail. It seems Emirates nowadays need to cut costs at any price and with the food and the kindness of the crew they start. I had crews over the last 2 to 3 years, who made you feel more as if you are in a Russian gulag, than on a premium airline. Since I live in Dubai, I have been a Skywards premium member for 2 daceads and do my fair share of flying every year. Lately the decline- especially in economy and even more in business becomes worrisome to the frequent flyer. I personally am scared that Emirates goes the same direction Etihad did... or Lufthansa years ago... sad..

Thanks, Josh. I have to agree with your comments. I recently received a request from United to comment after a round trip flight. I told them I'm continually disappointed that no one greets passengers as they board....the FA is hiding in the galley texting on her cell phone. I also don't understand why a FA cannot respond in kind when I thank them and smile for delivering a drink or a snack. I get it...their jobs are not easy...but if you don't like people and don't enjoy engaging with passengers, then please consider you might be in the wrong profession. My...how things have changed.

I flew emirates EK322 from DXB to ICN and I had ordered the pre ordered Hindu Non veg meal. It was really tasty! I think you should try the preorderd foods on emirates. Also, the western food option on menus always seem to be the most bland or dry. They out the eastern or Asian varieties. It may be worth your try on all the middle eastern and Asian airlines.

Have had the privilege to fly Emirates a few times (both cattle class and biz), and my experience is that the crew on cattle is more attentive and service minded than on biz. The crew on biz is more blaze and seems a bit bored, so if Emirates could get the same level of ''I see you'' in biz, it would be a winner. P,s love your videos

Emirates do supply tooth brushes, eye shades, socks and paste and Singapore Airlines on my 17 1/2 flight 11/23/2019 SFO to Singapore didn’t provide any of that, they actually removed my Tumi lock from my luggage! I was first introduced to Covid on Singapore Airlines! And also those Singapore girls most definitely not as friendly as Emirates crew’s!

I agree with the food selection. I have been flying with Emirates for a couple of years. Overall, it's value for money except the food. They've cut costs quite drastically and it's gone lower. I especially don't like seeing that chocolate blob which they disguised as a dessert mousse. So I always try to eat well before my flight

  • @jemand8462
    @jemand8462 ปีที่แล้ว

    in regards to the food:
If you want the chicken, you need to book the first half of the cabin as they always start in the very front - not from front and back or even several starting points, no, at the front. So in the last rows, you'll wait 2 hours for your food and the chicken will never be an option. I've had this exact experience on 6 consecutive long haul flights to and from australia and on the last flight got really pissed of. They started their deascalation speeches, I apologized and then got another chicken meal that was found somewhere surprisingly...

I don't really think you pay a "premium" though to fly Emirates. It's the same cost as any other full-service airlines... Flight cost depends on the date and time of booking, as well as where you're flying too, different airlines will have different prices depending on the time of year and location in respect to their home base.

And about the food my impression was, that Emirates is, probably, the most Vegan Vegetarian friendly airline. With a very interesting menu in this segment of service. Also the way Emirates treats the long time transit economy class tourists - passengers at the Dubai International Airport... The vouchers they deliver and the whole airport... Only Singapore International airport can be compared to DAX... Although, I liked very much the colorful elephants in Suwarnabumi and in New Delhi...

I agree that the food on Emirates is one of the few weak points. I have only flown Emirates Business Class over many years and it used to be said that their food was one of the strong points. I think they have let it slide. As a lifelong Qantas fan and frequent flyer for 50 years I know that in the early days the Emirates food was said to be far superior but, the tables have turned and now Qantas has totally eclipsed Emirates in the catering department. It's a shame because overall their cabins and ground service are so impressive. Oh well, if enough people talk about it, the ones who put their money where there mouth is and pay for a premium product.....maybe we can give them a little wake up call. Love your reviews. Keep smiling and keep up the good work.

That is so true about what you mention in the Singapore airlines economy review. It is definitely more on the pricey side compare to other airlines and when they strongly praise themselves for being the best in the world and having the best cabin crew, you expect them to be at their top game, regardless being in business or economy. However I have been flying with both Emirates and SA and so far the crews were great.

It's a real pity the food has taken such a dive, but it certainly has done so of the last few years in particular. I remember flying them in 2003 and getting a huge slab of fresh moist salmon on a full sized tray with salad and moist carrot cake, it was basically a business class meal on other airlines of the time. I certainly rate the A380 very highly for passenger experience.

Yes, Emirates is one of the most passenger friendly, hospitable airlines. Probably, number one in this category. Also very very clean. Though, I don't think, that I flew ever by the air lines, which are not clean, or unhygienic, but, through some reason, my recollecting impressions from Emirates, as the cleanest one... I wonder why... Probably, because Emirates do pay very careful attention to every detail of the service, including the toiletry... gels, soaps, etc..

I think emirates chooses which destination where to upgrade their service.... with my experience in business class from Manila- Dubai. They use an old aircraft or the cabin is not updated. Like TV screens are not HD, no amenity kit, no slippers and the food is disappointing. I expected so much with emirates but it is not worth it( the manila- dubai leg) but if you are flying to destinations like singapore, paris, amsterdam... the cabin is new and they have amenity kits.... hope you try it josh to see it for yourself :)

You might had a good experience with Emirates business class but I had a very bad experience with economy class with Emirates from Chicago to Dubai

...It also does seem, that the airline food does depend a lot on the cooking policy of the outbound airport catering. How much to say and influence each airline has in this respect? Quite an interesting matter to research.

Ugh I miss flying already!! Talking about their food, Ive only been on the same route London - DXB - KUL/SIN for a few times and i must say it was exciting at first then it got really boring after that. MAS has better options. I just love having Nasi Lemak in the sky!

Emirates make it food depending on its route . If you are flying from India the it will serve Indian cuisine food . I also travelled on the emirates all’s classes and also in b777 and the a380. I think emirates makes the best food and also gives the best inflight experience.

@Josh Cahill - I love the time-lapse during take off around 4:40 min mark with the uplifting music. What song is that?

Food on Emirates economy class is a disaster. Personally I always avoid the main course, I eat only the starters (including the salad 👎) and then the piece of dessert. I have sensitive stomach so main course on Emirates class will definitely triggers problems to my stomach.
I guess the chef who is putting the standards worked for long on satwa Indian restaurants or labor camps catering.

I was supposed to do the Kuala Lumpur-Dubai route in the A380 (departing from France with the B777) this summer but I guess this won’t happen now :/

I flew Emirates from BNE-DBX-BCN last year and the crew was very friendly and engaging. The food I had was delicious, although I pre ordered vegetarian online. Good video ✌🏻

In my opinion, Emirates economy was as good or better than Qantas premium economy for the US to Australia long haul.

I flew Emirates from Capetown via Dubai to Hamburg last year in Economy class. Both flights were very different. My first flight on the 777 was teribble. The crew was extremly unfriendly. They weren't even welcoming the passengers while Boarding and didn't say goodbye after landing. They were just talking to each other. They didn't smile once during the flight. The service was very slow. I agree with you on the food. It was dry and not enjoyable. I only got one full meal and an discusting sandwich before landing. There were only two drinks services in the entire flight. Thats not enough for a flight which is almost 10 hours long. My connection flight was the complete opposit. The crew was friendly and helpfull. They came around the cabin often. The food was allright on this flight. After the first flight the second one felt like a completely different airline. I experienced Emirates to be very inconcistent.
