    There are several things I’d like to see you try:
    1. Making homemade Coca-Cola (a recipe from the creator’s notes showed up on NPR a few years ago)
    2. Whipped “cream” made from the runoff from canned chick peas (I’ve also seen a recipe for “vegan meringues” made from it
    3. Gelatine-based “ice cream” (it’s a Depression era recipe that uses Jell-o)

      Aquafaba (water from any beans but usually chickpeas) is used as egg white substitute. Not really a cream...just FYI

      tjs114 my daughter is allergic to milk proteins, so I’ve had to learn labeling quite well. Typically, “non-dairy” refers to the absence or removal of lactose, whereas “dairy free” means completely dairy free, including milk proteins and solids. Wish labeling were more clear though!

    I finally made this today. It's been on my mind for months.
    1) Super fun to make. Watching the kitchen alchemy happen is delightful.
    2) It definitely mellows the more you let it sit. We ate some an hour after I made it and again about 5 hours after I made it. The first slice was definitely more citrus tasting and sharp compared to the second bit I had later. It also tasted a little less sweet after sitting for a while. I would definitely recommend leaving it to do It's thing overnight if possible.
    Next time I make it I plan to use ginger biscuits and see how that works out.

      Hey! So, fun fact time! That tool is not used for sharpening knives. It's called a "Honing Steel" and its used to re-align the knife blade to keep it nice and straight. Knives tend to get bet out of shape after 3 or 4 uses, so you use this tool to straighten them out. Its for maintenance in between sharpening sessions.
      Sharpening the blade requires actually scraping off/grinding down small particles of the blade- but the honing steel is not capable of doing that. The more you know! :) :)

      Hi. I am in US. When I was in college 30yrs ago (Haha- sharing my years!)... I would by at specialty food section of Cost Plus / World Market, out of this world delicious lemon. Cookies and have been trying to find since.Think here, you like lemon and have European, British, & SouthAfrican baked products - you possibly may know the cookies I am craving. They were a petit beurre cookie sandwich. .a very tart lemon cream icing type between the two cookies. I feel as if the petit beurre cookies had also been dipped in a sugar syrup or something & then placed in an oven to dry & create a shiny-ish golden glaze. The over the cookie part- baked on glaze, may even been a lemon flavor- dont remember this part, it is possible tho. And after that, the lemon filling added. // I feel they must still sell these cookies as they were delicious. It's just not a brand carried in USA. I've even tried to imitate them but mine were just, not right. / I looked up 'your' cookie you mention and it's not same one; but I will try it. PLS if you might be familiar with European, maybe British cookie I am talking about- pls let me know. Thanks kindly One of my fav cookies is Pims orange flavor, even tho theyve changed over the years- but still v nice. Wish theyed make a lemon too. ty

    I'm so intrigued by this recipe. The sweetness must come from the condensed milk . . . eh? I can't help but wonder what a few drops of an extract . . . like lemon or coconut might do for it. I'm anxious to give it a try.

    • @emmymade
      @emmymade  4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Yes, the sweetness comes from the condensed milk, but I think the lemon juice is essential. The acidity of the lemon juice reacts with the condensed milk to thicken the filling, and I don't think lemon extract would to the same thing.

      This is basically my family’s no bake holiday cheese cake recipe except instead of the creamer and water we just use cream cheese. If you want to add a extract, try vanilla, that’s what I usually add 😋 the lemon is just about impossible to taste!

      @@emmymade I mean in addition to the recipe as you made it. . . . as you indicated . . . it didn't have a distinct flavor - - so - - maybe an extract would fix that. . . ? ? lemon, coconut, almond, . . . etc Maybe ? ?
