Garbage in ditches is always an eyesore and a hassle for those who bail them. As a friend of mine said once, "If it weren't for people, it would be a wonderful place to live." At least the ditches don't have the garbage in them like it was 40 years ago. Nice of the seller to fix up the trailer for you. Don't see that very often.

Yea, he felt bad about it. He did get the 2 bearings fixed and delivered it the rest of the way. I've had a little more time and I checked the other two hubs that were fine at the time and the inside bearings are shot as well. Snow does a lot of damage.

I get about half of my hay from highway ditches. when we pick up the square bales, we also grab any trash we find. Every year we end up with a bunch, and when i feed the bales, find more that made it into the bales. We should have one of those blue signs put up that says "Schmidt Happens Ranch litter control, next X miles" How many miles of highway ditches do you hay?

Several miles of highway, plus some county roads too... really pathetic this year. Some places didn't even mow it because nothing grew.

Put a hydraulic cylinder on the back wheel and you will love it for raking in the ditches

Farming 4G if only that were true! We have a 5 cent deposit here in Ct, and I can make a quick buck just on my short road!.

Do you have to contact the county? To be able to bale the hay. Just curious:)

Not here... mainly as it goes is if you own/operate/rent land that resides next to a public roadway you can make the hay in the ditch for both county roads or state hwys. For gravel roads we are required to mow shoulders during the summer and one more time before the snow flies. Really it saves taxpayer money while giving ranchers the option of getting more hay. Worst thing about them is the litter...
