I agree! I was just thinking how we hardly ever see Olivia anymore, but then realized she is a teenager now, that explains it! Lol, but would like to see her more often.
I love your new animals! Nice to see a cameo of Olivia, tell her we miss seeing more of her BUT we understand....teenagers! It's going to be a lovely summer, bless you all at Lumnah!
I wonder if it would help him acclimate to the new animals if he spent a little time in his enclosure, so he could be nose-to-nose with them. Even seeing "his people" brushing them might help.
Good afternoon Al , Gina and Olivia. Perfect choice on the Highland Cattle. Brutus is entering his gangly stage. I bet it won't be long , before he warms up to the new additions.
Brutus is sure growing. He’s already growing to be a big boy. Nice thing about used bedding material. It can go right into the compost pile. Nothing gets wasted.
Beautiful creatures…im from Scotland and that’s the cow back home… im in UK now… a lot if farms gave them here… Brutus not sure but he will get used to them..
I would collect their fur and see if anyone wanted it to spin into yarn. It can also be felted quite easily. The long outer coat is somewhat thick and itchy when worn next to the skin, but would make great warm outerwear. The inner fur is softer, but hard to separate from the coarse outer layer..
Brutus is reacting as he should. The coos are new to him, so he's alarmed, he will realize they belong and he needs to protect them as well. Good job Brutus! The wire disconnect was a great idea..😂😅 Love ya'll ❤️
Brutus isn't scared of them. He recognizes that they are not supposed to be there. It will take him a couple of days to figure out that they belong to you and he will be guarding them too. Every new animal you bring to the farm Brutus will see as a threat. He is just doing what comes naturally.
Can just hear Brutus, "These are not like the others!" Beautiful cows. Being able to brush and be around them shows how well they have been handled previously. Great addition. Been noticing this for quite some time, love how neat you keep everything. Of course, the shop and barn, but all around the homestead. There will be piles of "stuff" but you've kept everything so tidy looking.
Hey yall, I am glad to see your farm shaping up. I know how excited you must be. Love the new bull & steer. I grew up on two farms, and my favorite was my uncle in Washington state. He had everything & every animal + he ran a dairy delivery service as well as huge crop fields. My grandfathers farm had just 160 acres of crop fields and a huge three acre garden that fed 10 large families. Don't forget to mix in your ash when you turn your compost pile. FYI; a good operational compost will devour an entire chicken in just four days.
George is perfect. Miles will be yummy. Recommends buying a couple of Highland cows and having a proper little fold. The jersey cross progeny will be heavy milk producers in the beef herd and so will grow calves well and that's worthy.
Those highland cows are cool. They are a rather calm cow. Can’t wait to see the kind of calf that you have. It was nice to see Olivia again, she is about as tall as Gina is.
Gooood morning Lumnah's! What a great addition to the homestead! Tasty, healthy, "fun" addition to the homestead. Things are looking good on Lumnah acres. Thanks for sharing guys!
I also guessed cattle but not what kind. Was nice to see your daughter again. Seems when they get a certain age they don't want to be in videos. She sure does take after her mom. I got to thinking while watching. You are the first you tubers i starting watching. I don't remember how many years it has been but that got me into watching more and more. I no longer watch tv shows anymore. I know i can watch you tube and not have to put up with foul language and such. Thank you for being here for us.
Where I grew up in The Welsh Marches, one of our neighbours had Highland Cattle. The fields only had strands of barbed wire fence, and they used to walk through those strands as if they weren't there. If we were paid for every time we came across them in the lane, we'd have made a pretty penny. 😂 They were always easy to get back into the fields, even though they were hardly handled, and they always did well on the scrub grass of the hillside. Great cattle to start with on the beef front.
Nice Highlands. Good to see Olivia. She looks like she is growin up! Brutus is cautious as he should be not knowing for sure if the boys belong there or not. Bet he warms up to them soon!
Wow it's totally makes me at home to see Highland Coo's as i stay in Scotland and they are great to see and the beef is really lovely when you get around to that stage. They are the hardest animal you can get for your weather out i the USA.
Highlands are great for outside during the winters as well. Chad Doss @DossFarms, has a Highland JuneBug, and she loves Chad and follows him like a puppy. She the QUEEN of a herd of LongHorns!!!!
You might need to open up the area of fence after you get all those animals on the small space of fenced off area. Looks like you have a lot more room to exspand. Scottish Highland Cattle are an ancient, Celtic breed of cattle. Cattle consume as much as 70kg of plant matter a day! Diet: Grass, leaves, flowers, shrubs and browse on low hanging trees.
Good afternoon Al , Gina and Olivia. Highland cattle stumped me. Brutus wanted more real cattle, the kind he recognizes! I am sure he will warm to them in time.
Highland Cattle originate from the Scottish highlands where they are used to inclement conditions, and stay outside in all weathers. in the Great Glen in Scotland there are cattle barns available to the cattle if the weather gets too bad or where hay can be provided if necessary like when the snow is too deep to access any other forage.
A warm welcome to Miles and George! They are such beautiful animals and a great addition to your farm family. I am relieved that they are not for eating, and I hope Cookie is also counted in that number. I know, breaking us in gently to a full cattle raising for meat operation takes time and the overall purpose to your farm. It will be great to see things progress in that direction. We need to eat, and I love my steaks as well as any other meat eater out there. It has to come from somewhere, and Lumnah Acres appears to be the best place for any animal, future meat, or not. Congratulations, Al & Gina. It's been so great to be along for the ride all this time.
@@4Classie Thank you for making Miles & Cookie's fate clear. I think Al should be more up front about that so that we do not get attached to the meat animals. Naming them is just wrong in my book. That encourages an emotional connection to the meat animals, which we don't need, and Al & Gina don't need the fall--out about it later. Being prepared mentally is best.
@@dianne11ca he said that Cookie and Miles were for freezer camp to make it clearer, which would mean putting a sign on them. Perhaps he should change their names to Freezer 1 and Freezer 2?
Unfortunately with the new Highlands you have your animals in two barns now. I thought the new barn was intended to consolidate the critters in one place for easy care? I enjoy the videos! Keep’em coming!
I love watching you grow as time goes by. I’m from Kentucky, where we have a lot of cattle. I’ve noticed a lot of the Highland cattle showing up in the fields. They are beautiful animals. Good luck with this stage in your life.
Good morning Lumnah family. O my I love the Highland cattle. The black one is a color I don't see as much. They should do good in your climate better than some in southern states. Built for colder climates. Great, good for you guys. Will be fun watching them grow. Keep the fences charged and you'll be fine. Thanks for sharing.
clip on the fence tool is clever. My solution through the years was to buy so many of them I could always find one. Glove box, tool box, tool bucket for fencing..multiple tools everywhere. I'm thinking the clip would have been cheaper. One thing is for sure - fixing fence is an easier job when you have one!
I love how You been so much more involved in the videos Gina, miss seeing Oliva but teen . I get it 😉👍 things are going along guys - any plans for Green house staring ? Miss your home cooking too ( Gina). Long time tan guys - ❤️😎
Hi Gina! Bought some cold brew this afternoon and the cold brew setup you have to make it! I’d LOVE it if you could do a little demonstration sometime soon even though I think k you might have done one last year. Might be hard to find it. Maybe show all the steps on how you make it…the proportions you use….and how you make the cold foam…and any other secrets to summer drinks you make with it. Do you add any maple syrup or sweetener? Ever add a little chocolate and ice snd then blend it to make a Frappuccino type drink?
How wonderful are they. The meat from highland cows is amazing. I had one for my freezers from a friend, I couldn't believe how beautiful it was, it tasted how beef used to taste.
Good Morning! Your wire hook over the switch terminal went on backwards. You should always wrap it clockwise over the terminal bolt so putting on the nut tightens it. Not a big deal with electric fence wire, but it is when doing your own electrical work. Do it right so you develop a good habit. Is your new Highland bull A2A2 certified?
Wonderful 🤔 how spring 🌼🌱 time seems to always bring some type of new life to every farm. Congratulations Al and Gina and continued success as you establish what I believe will ultimately be an amazing working Farm and life 😊
You're going to need tons of hay for the winter/spring. Can they even get to the hay in that feeder? I hope that they get turned out onto a larger pasture...that one is awfully small. And a shelter would be nice for severe weather in the winter.
Fine looking Highlands, hard to believe how tame they are. The breeders must have handled them a lot. Now, how do you get Brutus they are as sweet as his Jerseys? Thanks for sharing, I am looking forward to seeing them out grazing on the land. Y'all have a Blessed day.
I’m pretty sure Gina is collecting pets and letting Al believe they are livestock.
She may be but all I know is Al is sending 2 of those cattle to Freezer camp pretty soon 😂
I remember years ago when Gina was so shy and now she is right there brushing the new Hyland Cattle...WTG Gina!!!
Sure Gina is of that mindset
Oh my this surely made me laugh,😂.

Highland cattle are gentle and intelligent. I raised them for many years. A wonderful breed.
Hi..... AL and GINA Nice to see you Love watching your video homestead bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 👍👍👍
That trough being that close to the electric fence seems like a dirty trick to the new cattle, one nudge and ZAP!
Brutus is doing his job. He is seeing animals that don't belong in his mind. So he's doing what he thinks what he should be doing.
Yes they are new, he will learn they are part of the farm soon, these are the first new animals he has seen here.
I wonder if it would help him acclimate to the new animals if he spent a little time in his enclosure, so he could be nose-to-nose with them. Even seeing "his people" brushing them might help.
After they are there for a while Brutus will like them like the others just new to him !...
They're going to have to get used to Brutus too.

Lime the floor to control smell and bacteria before the pine shavings. Sterilize their living quarters.
I thought of that too, unless Al didn't film doing it.
I love the highland cattle, they are gorgeous. But you have taught me a lot of new things about them. Yay!
Al, you gave it away when you said "when we moved the other cows over here." LOL
They gave it away before they spoke a word! 😂
So cute. I can’t believe how Olivia has grown up. ❤
