    I finally sat down and watched more closely. This is a superior discourse on paying attention to the details of handloading. There are so many aspects that require human input, and so much built-in variance with our machinery that we just have to consider. If we want consistency, we must first learn to take dominion over the hardware, and submit to our human frailties. We’ve got to think, watch, practice and write stuff down. Well executed, C-Dub! 🤛🏻🔫🇺🇸

    I think you did a fantastic job on this video. I resized some cases today and than trimed them for length on a trimmer that measures off of the case shoulder. Had a heck of a time setting up the correct length on the cutter. Case lengths kept coming out different lengths. Finall put a head space gauge on the caliper and discovered when I resized the brass the head space measurement was not the same on all cases. Naturally this through off the lengths for the cutter. I do brush out the inside of the case mouth BUT i did not lube the inside of the mouth. I believe now that this was my downfall. After watching your video it reminded me to always include that step. Thank you.

    Great video, CW! Much more detailed than mine. Will 2 thousandths shoulder bump make a more accurate load? Probably not, but when in combination with all our other steps, and consistency, the accumulative effect is beyond awesome! Thanks, Brother.

      Yes it will make a more accurate load the less you push the shoulder back the tighter the case is held in the chamber,a loose fit allows the case to settle down on the bottom of the chamber a nice tight let's say .001, or .0005 and the case is held in straight in the chamber and lines up with the bore making contact with the lands equal on the hole ojive and that my little friend will make a huge difference in accuracy

    Well done CW. I generally use a case gauge and then double check the first case with the actual rifle chamber, especially for semi autos. Funny how even with the same cartridge that no two chambers are alike.

    Absolutely. Every situation is different. Would you go through all this with the ammo you painstakingly loaded just to do mag dumps with? probably not. If you're a long range person or hunter then yes this would. Do your homework first. Read the reloading manuals and get a base knowledge and expand that. I have manuals from back in the 30's 40's 50's that have information you won't find in today's.
    We're dealing with .001" of an inch. The threads on a die are 7/8'-14, not quite the fine adjustment there. A little bit goes a long way. When I'm working up loads and there's say a .002" adjustment needed, I give the die locking nut another tightening and then pick up that .002" or close enough to run. This only works in the downward direction as if it's too short already tightening it more won't help... Like CW said it's a guide or how he does it, it can be a deep rabbit hole if you want it to be, your milage may vary... Wow that was long winded... Good stuff CW👍👍

    You did this so well, CW! I've had some real frustration around setting up a sizing die and unknowingly changing 1 small thing and suddenly what I thought was a small shoulder bump becomes a major push on the brass. I'm hoping that adding breech lock type die bushings will reduce the amount of fanangling I do every time I install my sizing die. The little things can add up to big changes!

    • @cw2a
      @cw2a  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Sometimes its frustrating because not all chambers are "same" meaning there are tolerance's and sometimes ya simply cant get what ta want. Other times its a walk in the park. Dont get frustrated cause mostly its for what we perceive is needed. Let the gun tell ya what it wants and likes. Might surprise ya! ❤️‍🩹🙏👍🏼

    Well I have another problem, I set up my Redding FL Bushing die without stem. Size bunch of annealed second fired scases (I bought SAKO once fired cases from range), Some of them are -0.001" some -0.002" -0.003" some +0.002" (this I throw away). If I turn the cases in Redding Instant Indicator or in calipers with Hornady tool (forget name CW was using it) I can get variant reading from lets say -0.002" to -0.003".
    Die is tightened, I got new table that I fortified so press wont move. Each case is wet tumbled, annealed, lubricated with Imeprial wax.

    • @cw2a
      @cw2a  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      .001 + - is very good.
      There will almost always be a variant. Sometimes its wonky. When I get that I move the brass to "fun shooting" Annealing can only do so much. Brass can simply get tired. And as we have found not all brass reacts the same. Cause not all brass is "all same"!
      I think your doing well. Don't chase possible problems. Fix -adjust - work with what you can control.

    Excellent! I don't use decap/expander rods much anymore, preferring Redding body dies in concert with Lee Neck Collet dies. But when I do, I chuck a brass bristle bore brush in my drill press to scrub the inside neck shiny clean. Before wax lubing the body, I'll dip the neck in Imperial dry neck lube. Also cuts down on the need to trim, imo. Umm...you mentioned scoche. Those looked like smidgeons to me. 😅 Thanks, cw2a!

    Thank you for this video, CW. Observing your adjustment of the locking ring on the die, it appeared that the press turret moved as well. I'm not familiar with a turret press, but thinking that when the horizontal distance of the die (when the turret moves) affects the vertical difference as it creates a hypotenuse of a triangle as opposed to the "vertical" leg of the triangle. Does your press have a positive stop for each turret station? I could see that this could have the ability to induce error.

    • @cw2a
      @cw2a  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      "Flex" would be bed if it was not consistent. The more solid a press you have the better you can hold consistent settings.
      This press is very solid. Its deflection is very very small.

    • @cw2a
      @cw2a  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good morning my friend!!
      This is simply "best" most efficient way or amount to resize your brass as part of the reloading process.
      By not moving the shoulder too far your not "working" the brass excessively and your sizing to keep your case as trye to chamber dims as possible. This aids accuracy as the case is more secure in the chamber.
      Hope this helps explain.

    what is shoulder bump?

    • @cw2a
      @cw2a  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Ruteger100 Good morning!!
      OK, if you look at a bottleneck cartritage. The shoulder is where the body of the case tapers into the neck which holds the bullet.
      The dimension's of the cartridge are such that they JUST fit into the chamber of a same chambered firearm. When that cartridge is fired, the brass expands "out" in all directions, to fill the chamber in the firearm. In order to reuse that brass, cause once removed, if wont fit back in, it needs to be re sized. Or ever so slightly "squished" to fit. But if sized too much, case life and accuracy can suffer. We have found that best efficiency is usually achieved with minimal shoulder sizing. Because the shoulder is angled or sloped when it gets sized it gets moved "back", shortening its OAL. Because its a very very small Movement, its commonly referred to as "bumping" it back. AKA Shoulder bump.
      Hope that explains more than confuses. 🙏👍🏼❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹
