  • It wasn’t common for the British to burn public buildings because it didn’t serve a military purpose. However, the burning of Washington was more an act of vengeance than anything else. When the Americans burned York (present-day Toronto), the capital of Upper Canada, they destroyed the Parliament and several other public buildings. Over a year later, the British exacted revenge. You left out the prior burning of the Canadian capital, Ottawa (?), by the Americans.

Lol America started the war by invading Canada while lots of Americans refused to fight because they didn't support the war. Don't you think it was a crime that the U.S invaded Canada? It's war, are the British not supposed to retaliate and try to win?

@@RoughRunnerAce98 The British/Canadians kidnapped American sailors and imposed trade restrictions on U.S. exports.
In return, the British razed D.C. Razing a nation’s capital is considered worthy of outrage now as it was back then.
I will always vote for someone who supports retaliation against those who committed this crime.

@@o_o825 😂My god you are pathetic, Britain burned D.C in retribution for what the U.S did in York, Toronto.

@@ChrisCrossClash The British/Canadians razed a nation's capital, which was something considered very dishonorable by an adversary during war.
We have and will never reap enough from our relationships with Canada and the U.K. to make up for this. I would argue that continued relations will only cost Americans their livelihoods.
