- Starting a new year presents an opportunity to approach life differently. We get to re-evaluate and make the necessary changes to achieve the life God desires for us.
In a world that glorifies busyness and speed, we often forget the importance of slowing down and being present. Slowing down is vital to God’s way of life. The God and the Jesus of the Scriptures are never in a hurry. Hurry is countercultural to the ways of Jesus, so why are we so hurried in this life?
Indeed, life is full of celebrations and challenges, hope and despair, joy and pain. For many people, life is overly scheduled, overly anxious, and overly stressed which causes us to live in the fast lane. We live life at a high rate of speed. Sometimes it feels like we are addicted to hurry! For our own spiritual and physical health, spending time with God is life-giving. We are called to trust in God and not rush.
How do we get unhurried? Getting “unhurried” is necessary for us to live as Christ lived. Jesus lived an unhurried life! Jesus understood that grace has a pace. The pace of grace aligns with the will and ways of God! We know that each day comes with a set of unique and unexpected consequences, but looking to the rhythms of Jesus Christ creates a pathway to achieve an unhurried life. Living an unhurried life is possible and doable if we pay attention to the daily rhythms and practices of Jesus, which he modeled for the disciples.
