Hey, SuperCap! The tandem landing at 11:12 was amazing! I vote that the two gentlemen who performed it be forever paired up on every sortie, because they make magic happen together.
The last landing challenge should have been a 100 knot tailwind. Landing in a headwind or crosswind, you can just sort of hover down, but you really have to control your approach in a tailwind.
Absolutely hilarious as usual. However I'm pretty certain we should all be worried for Damp. He's obviously got "Daddy" issues which he's projecting onto Cap. Or perhaps we should be worried for Cap. This won't end well for someone 😆😆😆😆
Had a thought for your next Carrier comp! Start with the largest (Nimitz class) then a smaller carrier for each stage of the comp....with the increasing wind factor! Maybe a 4 stage comp. Nimitz class, then Forrestal class, then maybe HMAS Melbourne or HMS Hermes (if its modelled) finishing with HMS Invincible in 200knot winds
These guys make this feat seem a lot more simple than it actually is. Carrier landings are tricky, sometimes even for the best pilots. Point blank period these guys got the Skillz to Pay the Bills 🔥🔥
You guys know that carrier landings are never crosswind, right? The carrier steers into the wind, so it's always straight down the deck. Anyway, more challenging than a steady crosswind would be a very gusty headwind--say, a 30 or 40-knot gust factor. Have you tried one of those?
Also, have the ship moving. Both through the water and pitching deck. "Harder" is darker, lower ceiling and visibility. Run 1 - Day, clear, 20 KTS wind, ship moving at 15 kts (easy). Run 2, night, 500' ceiling, 2 miles vis, 15kts wind, 20 knots ship, mildly pitching deck. Run 3, night, 200' 1/2 mile vis, 30 knots wind, winds shifting from 30 degrees between 1000' and 500', 10 knots ships speed, pitching deck.
Hey Cap, how does one join your squadron? I would love to join. I'm a VR player with 1000+ hours in the Boggerchip and 500+ in the A10. I've relied on your videos to learn the airframes I own.
I got one that's especially good if you can use WW2 carriers - landing non-carrier warbirds on carriers. Other than the fact it was done in real life (Spitfire landing aboard USS Wasp during Operation Bowery) I remember back in the days of 'Combat Flight Simulator', specifically CFS2 sometimes being annoyed by the lack of ordnance options for missions - and so learned to at times take off and land with a P-38 on a carrier deck staying just high enough above stall speed and not over speeding so I could brake before running out of deck. Fun and challenging, more so with how incompetent the LSO was in it (I can't tell you how many times with actual naval aircraft I got the 'cut and land' signal and died in a fireball, yet when I got wave offs made the wires).
How about a warbird wheel landing competition? Tailwheel may not touch the ground for 3 seconds after mains. Don't forget to add turbulence, smooth winds are too easy! It's not real flying if you don't get thrown around for a bit, you know. I usually type 2x the wind speed into the relevant box, don't know or care what the units are but it feels about right.
@@grimreapers Thanks, but I meant in your first crosswind approach, you said "First thing is to get rid of the canopy" and you jettisoned it. I'm wondering why? Enjoying your flights.
I would like to see a China version of this one, to see if they can do it under extreme weather conditions here like the Americans can do.. Very well done boys, my father enjoyed this one being on a Carrier in the past.
I read this article today and the first paragraph made me think of the Reapers right away. CONVERGENCE!!! Release the hounds: Army event to feature drone swarms that behave like a wolf pack. NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The U.S. Army plans to experiment with drone swarms that behave more like a wolf pack at its second aviation-focused exercise leading up to Project Convergence later this year, the director of the service’s Future Vertical Lift Cross-Functional Team told Defense News
Needs Added Bonus Shootout/Penalty Kick version : random F5 waterspouts cluttering up the approach, creating constantly-varying crosswind angles. Note : waterspouts have been known to pick up fish and toss them about... I figure an F5 could grab orcas and sunfish and large chunks of kelp forest and drape them across the aerodynamic surfaces, altering lift at a moment's notice. .... ok.... I get GCS is lacking the flying orcas and such... ... do you think I could do a mod based on the Jug?
Wait until the US Navy comes up with the idea of these holographic rings your have to fly through to land on a carrier, ala N64 Pilotwings. The computer projects the approach rings onto the helmet HUD and the pilot just flies through them until they land... Could be squares of light like a strike zone.
They already have systems better than that. On an F-16 for example, you have a dashed line to set the velocity vector on for correct glide slope, and then another bracket to center that shows correct angle of attack. There's more to landing than physically being on the correct glideslope, but there are already a ton of glide slope aids as is (such as PAPI lights)
Can anyone sign up for the carrier landings or any other campaigns? Would love to join the Reapers but work during your mandatory flight times. That is all!
Carriers turn into the wind so a crosswind wouldn't really be an issue. so pitch may be an issue but not roll. I think it would take something special to bring pitch over limits though
@@grimreapers I know bud - I'm bustin' ya balls - apols about that. I have the flight panels - brilliant. Just want the orion setup now. Thanks for the content. O7
Are there Grim Reaper members who are not capable of a straight up normal, easy landing on a carrier? (at 4:04). How embarrassing, as Cap should've said.
Hey, SuperCap! The tandem landing at 11:12 was amazing! I vote that the two gentlemen who performed it be forever paired up on every sortie, because they make magic happen together.
here here! agreed!
Thanks but no thanks ;)!
agree!
That landing warrants even MORE testing by Cap now too!
What makes the carrier allow a tandem landing :D
I suspect it was matter of some milliseconds and lag so that between the time it took to coordinate both landings the system had "accepted" them both
The skill on display to snag that tandem landing is one of the most impressive thing's I have seen DCS related! Freeken Awesome!
I worked the flight deck. Heavy seas landing is probably the most insane thing I’ve seen people do.
This might just be the best thing your channel has done yet. Love the peanut gallery play-by-play, soo good!
Can't believe nobody mentioned the viggen landing. Great stuff!
Also surprised nobody flew the A-4.

🥳 Loved *The Carrier Landing Olympics* 🥳
What's next?.. Landing at an Airfield with active AAA?? *avoid getting shot down and land*

Point blank period
these guys got the Skillz to Pay the Bills 🔥🔥
Agreed
that double landing was brilliant
Been hoping you do another one of these. Always a good time watching for sure. And hopefully when I get my new gaming system I can start practicing.
11:13 excellent, amazing 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
OMG 1 hour of premium fun, thank you guys for a great time 😂😂😂 I hope I can join you next time.
39:40 THAT was GREATNESS!
This is instead of happy new year’s😂 I watch those again and again!😀👍👍

I am pretty sure they know this, but just wanted hilarious antics in insane conditions ;)
They also did landings on a carrier stuck on top of a mountain, I'm fairly sure they know that isn't realistic either . . .
Agreed, would make a boring vid though. In last stage we have max wind with max gust.
Well, this proves it.the reapers are f*****g nuts!!
36:00 If you want to make it a "real Navy day", it has to be raining, too.
Buckets.
46:00 NOW, it's a Navy day!
Love the Double Snag
Me too, that was definitely a unique experience!
The Cap eject at 36:42 killed me. 🤣
lol
Navy: write that down, write that down! 11:11 xD
38:20 "Nightmare, what the F*** am I watching???" Indicates I did good on a funday... if nobody asks what the eff I'm doing I failed 🤣
Would love to see how many you could get to land on the carrier and park up...
But then all get airborne again!
This makes me wanna pick up a HOTAS and try it. Looks like so much fun!
Of course the one Sunday funday I decide to miss is an aircraft carrier landing challenge.
awwww :(
I see it live on twitch. It was so funny. I love this competitions.
Good to see my sister Ship CV 59, I sailed onboard CV 61
Cool
Pull off a carrier landing on 'Top Gun' for the NES, then we'll talk. 😆
Biggest technique in this is Throttle for Altitude and Pitch for airspeed to get your approach dialed in.

It's amazing how you manage to keep track of all this
I have score board set up on 2nd screen.
I mean a real carrier has to recover planes no matter the weather, but they would definitely turn the ship into the wind as much as possible.
I wonder if an F-18 can fly with winds like that IRL.
Can you change the weather like heavy storm setting? That would be a great test for everybody! Awesome vid too!!
36:00 is that the narrator for Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy??
TBH harriers might be more challenging for round 4. Might be fun to watch?
More carrier landing fun! Video Valued by Valued Viewer - Fly Army 🚁

Why do you blow the canopy when approaching with the Hornet?

What do they mean by rudder kick? I didn't notice anything
Will DCS not do night landing?
Can you set up landing competition with variable wind directions?
Dont think so
Some of the best content on yt right here
25:14 VTOL Hornet?? :D I bet he´d manage to brake without arresting the wire.

@ 4:50 did someone face plant the deck ?
Two planes, one wire.
Used to play Janes Anthology and land Airforce jets on carriers. It was similar to this lol.

Holy Hamburgers they got a Double! LoL
Yes, had to since I only had 100lbs of fuel left!
Everybody gangsta till the Mosquito drifts towards your carrier
11:11 was legendary!!!!
That was hella fun. And yeah, I watched
The Whole

🤟🤛😱✈️🤣
Use a C130 they don't have a hook, and the don't need all the Deck, they take off from where they stop.
IRL, wouldn't the carrier be turned into the wind to give the planes an easier target?
Carrier has broken down. CAn't turn.

You guys should team up with youtuber Ward Carrol who was a US Naval aviator for many years.
Tried, but he's too hard to get hold of.
NUTS! LOL great fun :)
11:28 Wow.
Hum.
Methinks perchance the Reapers might need to do some more carrier ops?
You know, for the practice? 😄
Brilliant!
I cannot wait for my PC to arrive so I can start practicing these
When you just started playing dcs and these boys doing 10 minute frogfoot turns in 3 seconds
Smigol making even more insane landings in war thunder seeing this, hold my beer
"It's a knockout" - so in which round are you playing your joker Cap?
I loved this!
Great and so cool and awesome
See the flying submaries landing in the sunken carrier.
why is the carrier not sailing INTO the wind??????
Bcuz the video would've been a clickbait not having an *extreme* challenge
OK
TBH, each round could alternate day/night landings, with increasing weather after each cycle.
......oh Simba...29:01..
Do you plan on more evasive maneuver competitions?
Yup got someting you'll love.
