How to paint camo your diving / spearfishing fins

- I camouflage my spearfishing fins, cressi gara 3000, with some acrylic spray paints. I used a thin sandpaper to rub them first and then i applied the colours: matt black, matt white, leather brown and hunter green.
Let's see how long will last!
The camera i used for the video recording was an sjcam m20.
They look very nice, however the acrylic paint will flake off very quickly, from day one of use actually. Instead of regular acrylics you can use specialized spray paints that have a plastic bonding agent in the mixture. Something like Krylon fusion for plastics. I’ve used them on fiberglass fins, carbon fins, spearguns, weight belts and weights. They stay on for a long time. (DO NOT paint your wetsuit).
For a wetsuit there are fabric material sprays, can be found in hobby shops.

Very creative! I just purchased some fins online, but one of them had this freakish stripe on it that made me want to return them. After seeing your inspirational video... I'm going have some fun and give it my best. Thanks!

They look super nice but acrylic paint in saltwater won't last without first having used adhesion promoter and a clear coat to seal the paint. But again still badass looking

I like that very much. How long the paint will last on the Fins......? Thinking to spray my Apeks RK3 ( white was the wrong decision when I bought this Fins )
Hello :) As long as you dont hit them in rocks the paint will last. Mine had some scratches but you can always refresh them with normal spray paint. But you can use better paint, there are some strong types of paint founded in hobby stores. This paint will make them last longer. But i have't try it myself yet

So freaking cool! How long did it last? I mean, how many dives you did before the paint gor ruined? Amazing.

But from the first dives you can see that the paint is going to flake and you have to be careful not to scratch them in the bottom of the sea, rocks or even sand.
You can always repair it after a few dives
But the best would be to apply a protective coat over it to seal the paint
Doesn't the paint Flake off due to the fins being flexable? Very nice
MR-FLIP Only a little in the foot pocket, the colour in the fin (blade) is ok. Only scratches in the rocks can remove the paint. But you can paint it again 😋

Γεια σου φίλε μου, σ'ευχαριστώ πολύ. 4 σπρέυ πήρα, 12€ μου κοστισαν συνολο. Χρησιμοποιησα λευκο, μαυρο, καφέ και πράσινο. Αλλα ειναι στο χερι σου να τα βαψεις οπως θες με οτι χρωματα επιλεξεις εσυ. Πχ μπλε,γαλαζιο,ασπρο και μαυρο μια καλη εναλλακτικη επιλογή. Γνωμη μου να χρησιμοποιησεις 3-4 χρωματα ωστε να δωσεις μια καλυτερη τρισδιαστατη αισθηση.Αλλα και με 2 χρωματα παλι γινεται παραλλαγη. Για τα βατραχοπέδιλα που σκοπευεις να παρεις, μιας και ειναι ηδη μαυρα τα παπουτσάκια του, μην τα πειραξεις αυτα, βαψε μονο τις λεπίδες. Δειξε μας μετα το αποτέλεσμα ;)
Οκ σε ευχαριστω πολυ πρωτα θα παρω καινουριο ψαροντουφεκο και μετα πεδιλα και αν ειναι θα το επειχηρησω σε ευχαριστω να σαι καλα!
Πολυ καλη δουλεια . Αυτα τα φυλλα απο τι φυτα ειναι ??
Σ'ευχαριστώ πολύ, αυτά που χρησιμοποίησα ήταν κυρίως φύλλα από άγρια πασχαλιά, κυπαρίσσι τούγια κ κάποια κομμάτια απο φοίνικα. Αλλά μπορείς να χρησιμοποιήσεις ότι έχεις διαθέσιμο, από αγριόχορτα μέχρι και κάποιο παλιό δίχτυ. Οτιδήποτε μπορεί να αφήσει κάποιο μοτίβο.
Καλό είναι να χρησιμοποιήσεις τουλάχιστον 3 χρώματα.
Αλλά δοκιμάζεις και βλέπεις :)

Does the paint peel and crack on the blade or just the foot pocket? I love your paint job and would consider doing that to my OMER blades. I would not paint the foot pocket.
hello Jason! well the paint in that area is not peeling, but it has a little scratches from the rocks in the sea. Perhaps is the quality of spray i used. I took not the best quality, i wanted something cheap because it was my first effort.
but so far.. the fins are great
super job painting them! I wouldn't worry too much about the scratches. Only the toxicity of any released paint. Perhaps there is a durable non-toxic paint out there? Being that the foot pocket is soft and flexible, I would avoid painting that. Again, nice job!

Well it cost less than 15 euros, i only bought 4 sprays and some sandpapers

cool but is it ok for the wildlife? seems quite toxic
you can apply a special sealing paint that wont affect the wildlife

hello, mine are still in good condition, only a few scratches from the rocks and little pilled spots in the footpockets cause its elastic material.
but is easy to fresh it up with a new paint again.
Did you put clear coat on it ?

hello. ''eat'' you mean corrosion? No, the paint in that area peel off al little, that happens because the foot pockets are extremely flexible and the paint creates cracks

Συγχαρητήρια φίλε μου. πολυ όμορφο αποτέλεσμα . Θα ήθελα να σε ρωτήσω αν για την ελαστικη ζώνη μπορούμε να χρησιμοποιήσουμε το ίδιο σπρευ κ αν για carbon πέδιλα είναι ίδια διαδικασία. ευχαριστώ
Pavlos D Σ'ευχαριστω πολυ! ☺ Η ζωνη ειναι πολυ ελαστικη και εχω την εντυπωση θα "σπαει" το χρωμα. Ισως θελει καποιο αλλο ειδος μπογιας που θα κραταει καλυτερα. Δεν το εχω επιχειρησει ομως. Οσο για το καρμπον αν δεν είναι πολύ εύκαμπτο θα πιασει πιστευω. Ποια πεδιλα ειναι? ακριβες μοντελο ωστε να το ψαξω και να σου πω?

Pavlos D Νομιζω θα μπορουσαν να γινουν. Αν εκανες μονο τις λεπιδες κι οχι το παπουτσακι με τα νευρα, με ενα καλο τριψιμο πρωτα κ μετα χρησιμοποιωντας σπρευ καλης ποιοτητας θα χες καλο αποτελεσμα. Σιγουρα θα χεις κπ γρατζουνιες απο βραχια κ θ φυγει το χρωμα αλλα καθε σεζον μπορεις να το φρεσκαρεις. Αν ειναι το δευτερο ζευγαρι σου ή γενικα τα παλια σου δοκιμασε το ☺ Αν χρησιμοποιησεις 3 τουλ διαφορετικα χρωματα θα χεις ωραιο αποτελεσμα

It's great art work but the reason I don't like the idea is because of the chemical breakdown of the paint in the sea after frequent use. Great art work tho.

That paint is bad for the environment, if you love the sea you should be more thoughtful.
