Ypure preaching to the choir here! Love survivor bikes. I wouldn't dream of repainting a bike unless it is mostly destroyed. All of my bikes have the natural wear and tear that tells a story of where they were and what they did. As Yard Sale said, they're only original once. So good.
I had an '89 U.S. Express ATB and it was in great condition and completely original components. It was sadly stolen a decade ago. Love the paint jobs of this era of Peugeots. Mine was a lower end model, but it just worked fine.
Wabi-sabi : In traditional Japanese aesthetics, wabi-sabi (侘び寂び) is centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection.[2] The aesthetic is sometimes described as one of appreciating beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete" in nature.[3] It is prevalent in many forms of Japanese art.[4][5] Wabi-sabi is a composite of two interrelated aesthetic concepts, wabi (侘) and sabi (寂). According to the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, wabi may be translated as "subdued, austere beauty," while sabi means "rustic patina."[6] Wikipedia
My Ranger is the same, it looks good in photos but up close it's fairly beaten up in places but to strip it, re-paint it then add new decals would erase all that history. 😢
It’s beautiful! Don’t change a thing!

I'm glad there are other people that feel the same way.
If everything gets restored....there will be nothing left to tell the stories.

The Ranger was pretty much bottom of the range....but such a great bike!
Peugeot Ranger was my first ATB. Had it from my late uncle.

It would indeed mate....so much character. More people stop me to chat about that bike than any of the perfectly restored bikes.
There only original once
Exactly!
