WOW!!! I wasn't expecting to get picked but there was my road bike on display!!! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on my build! Truly an honor and so stinking cool to get a shout out from you!
I built a 1986 Cannondale M300 mountain bike frame into a pretty much a gravel bike. Ran medium drop Shimano 600 Arabesque brake calipers, 105 derailleurs, friction shifters and old school 36cm aluminium road bars. 700c Shimano 500's, 28 mm Conti's, Cook Brother cranks. Cut the brake brace/caliper bosses off but kept the steel fork original. I stared at the frame one day, and offered up some road bike wheels and realised I could fit a 10 speed cassette and rim brakes. Love the late 80's early 90's Cannondale frames. 🙂
No horizontal dropout or chain tensioner on the Marin Redwood - how does this work? He got lucky with the perfect chain tension with the existing dropouts and combination of sprocket/chainring?
I've seen many bike build videos where people copy your style. Usually they don't give a shoutout to you for the inspiration, which is a little sad. These Custom Bike Build videos are similar to Garys projects Bike Talk series. Were you inspired by those?
I’ve wanted to do these for a long time and as to inspiration I would say it was more Taylor Martin @bestdamnedc with his EDC weekly that would be the inspiration. That combined with GMBN’s and GCN’s videos. I have seen Gary’s bike talk videos where he roasts others bikes, not quite my style. I have want to focus on what others have to say about their bikes and build a community who geek out on the parts and the builds people put together. For that I am asking in my submission form what makes their bikes and build special and what parts are on it.
I really appreciate your efforts! I need some advice: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How can I transfer them to Binance?
The pull converters work well and cantilever brakes are also very good. I've used the tektro 520 levers before but I doubt the industry will ever try to do a long pull brake lever like that especially as everything goes predominantly to hydraulic. If you really want long pull brifter the Gevenalle company makes a brifter of sorts based off of the tektro 520 lever. Little odd but they're pretty solid.
Those Kool Stop Dual Compound Mountain (brake) Pads on the Rock Lobster are awesome! I have a pair on my Surly 'winter bike'. They work GREAT and have a great retro look!
"Gravel bike", ugh... Just take your mountain bike and ride it everywhere. No need to get a specific bike for gravel. How much gravel is out there anyway to warrant owning a whole 'nother bike?
@@brianrankin5876 yep, I have a set of continental kryptotal front and rear for some DH riding, a Maxxis dhr2 and rekon race for my XC/ gravel rides, a set of WTB thick slick for the street.

Thanks Tyler for sharing. Your bike is awesome.
i always like these type of content as what Gary did in his channel. It makes it more engaging with the subscribers.
90s bikes are S tier for modding into whatever you want. Parts are cheap and plentiful and theyre easy to work on
beautiful hybrid Marin!
I worked at a shop in the 90’s that sold Bianchi bikes and the Bianchi Project 7 would be a great gravel bike.
The Lobster is beautiful.....hard to find these days. Keep it rollin.....😎
I rode one of those from work at the bike shop, to Classes at university for 4 years, single gear banging up hill. 46-12 if I remember correctly

The Lobster deserved to win

I wish they would make long pull brifters for v brakes. It makes too much sense.

As ultraromance says .. the crank is the center of attention of a build ... 3 of 4 of these bikes missed bad 😢
